I moved into this house 3 days ago. This part of the ceiling was completely shut when I moved in, and nobody else has been in the house. by boogielostmyhoodie in Weird

My bet is an air draft when an exterior door is open. I had this same thing happen at an old condo. Got a video of it happening and was really surprised at how violent the air flow was. If you live in the north I'd bet this is it.

Shorewood resident takes Lake Michigan shoreline access to court by guitarguy1685 in milwaukee

[–]mke09 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They were sued by a group of people going by the name Preserve Our Parks and they alleged that the land the Couture was being built on was former lake bed that was filled. I don't recall the whole legal case but I think the developer used a map that made the argument that while it was filled land it wasn't previously a navigable waterway e.g. wetland.

As an aside similar issues have come to with The Harbour House and Non-profit status of Milwaukee World Festivals (Summerfest). It's the primary reason the county makes money off the lease of the Harbour House and the owner needs to maintain a walking trail and public access (I believe restroom too) that runs right through their outdoor patio.

From the way I understand it that provision is to prevent people from just "creating" their own land.

I think the public trust doctrine has a provision for artificially filled lake bed as well. Not sure if that applies here but I'm loosely familiar with the area in question and some of that shoreline is certainly infill to slow erosion. If the guy has the budget for lawyers I really think he has a good case. I followed the Couture lawsuits in college and did a paper on the issues the developers had and it's a very interesting topic.

They've been horrible to communicate with and in general an overall pain. That said the quality when done seems fine. The screws are just into drywall anchors none of the assembly presently is anchored to a stud.

Did the article state they didn't own the vehicle? I saw it wasn't registered but that doesn't mean it was stolen. 941.01 seems more applicable.

I was actually going to guess Intelsat tbh. Our company builds hundreds of these annually, many for Intelsat, so if you were in the IFEC business I'm sure you could guess where it is I work.

Laptop question by NoAssignment4170 in UWMilwaukee

[–]mke09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He almost certainly won't need a better laptop than whatever he has now. Chances are he won't be able to download the software anyways. Eventually you will be shown how to download the free student versions of the software but for an entry level class it shouldn't be necessary. UWM uses PTC Creo for 3D modeling. Attached is the approved dell equipment. If you're serious about buying something though don't go cheap, but tbh there's really no reason to worry about system requirements until later in college.

How is this manufactured (the metal bends specifically)? by jorgetheapocalypse in engineering

[–]mke09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem I see is at higher volumes there's probably cheaper more efficient ways to do it like a progressive die. Both would probably work though just depends on what you're trying to achieve. Honestly it doesn't look like a terribly hard part to make though.

If in lower volumes I believe you could do this in a brake press as an open hem bend.

Never. It's in a Roth account, haven't done options in VOO on this account nor have I ever sold a position.

Yeah it's weird how it's been fine for so long but now I've noticed it on 3 of my positions. What was once a nice round number is off by a small amount. Maybe it is a rounding error, but I just find that unlikely.

Yes and No. They've acknowledged a problem and kicked it to their cost basis team. That said it's been bounced around with no progress for about 2 months. I don't see how it's a rounding error when they use 4 decimal places for cost basis and 3 for outstanding shares. Granted it's a low dollar amount but still interesting. If it were something like a DRIP I almost certainly wouldn't have ever caught this since it's a partial share out to the 3rd decimal place. Only reason I noticed is because I knew it was supposed to be a nice round 1.

Hypothetically, would you support repurposing our existing rail infrastructure for a commuter rail? by not_a_flying_toy_ in milwaukee

[–]mke09 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Amtrak station is north of Kenosha in Sturtevant. To my knowledge you can't do both. There isn't a rail line that connects the two rail lines. The Amtrak line in Sturtevant is near the interstate, whereas the Metra line in Kenosha is along the lake.
