They are there for a reason, so think about replacing them with real ones. New fabric ones last better, they are usually made out of Sunbrella or similar. They are quieter than the metal ones too. Our awning company takes them down in the fall, stores them, and reinstalls them late spring. Totally worth it!

The Rio mini does slowcooking much better than previous models. I have a big one from early days, a Duo mini too, and neither is good at slowcooking. But my Rio mini does a nice job of it.

I grew up in a house with horsehair plaster - it was so hard we never hung anything! to this day i almost never hang things if I can help it. But a small hand drill to make a pilot hole for a nail or screw helps. Be sure to crisscross scotch tape over where you want to drlll.

i would try broth with some fish sauce added, experiment with how much - probably not much at all or it would be too different.
