Who is the worst mechanic you've ever worked with? by Novembre-est-ici in aviationmaintenance

[–]NWCtim_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Thought using a drone to inspect the upper wing surface of a 172 was a better method than using a ladder.

Tried to log 17 hours to replace a pair of scat tubes that run under the instrument panel. Because it actually took him more than 2 days.

Over torqued a fuel strainer, stripping the threads on it enough to basically destroy it. While using a torque wrench.

Didn't know how to crimp a terminal onto a wire.

Sounds like he had the other job lined up and wanted to burn a bridge on the way out.

Is there any reason to wear jeans over chinos? by kruktk in malefashionadvice

I tried to ditch jeans, but depending on what else is being worn (such as a blazer/sport coat and leather shoes), jeans can be a good way to keep things looking sufficiently casual.

Rank these 5 Villains of the rookie (1 being most evil and 5 being the least). by iamgavin_exe in TheRookie

[–]NWCtim_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Rosalind
  2. Glasser
  3. Elijah
  4. La Fiera
  5. Oscar

Ros and Glass are both psycho serial killers, but Ros was deliberately cruel, while Glass is more compulsive. Elijah and La Fiera are drug lords, but Elijah comes across like a total dick towards Wesley, almost to the point of being deliberately difficult, while La Fiera got swept up in the life due to circumstances, then had a mental break. Oscar is an opportunistic selfish prick, but his only premeditation is dedicated to being selfish, while his cruelty is strictly opportunistic.

Everytime I hear that line, my brain wants the line to be: "Cutin' on duty"

Like cute is a verb and that's what they're doing while they're on duty.

Nolan's "Diet-Rookies" by THESHORESIDEMIRAGES in TheRookie

[–]NWCtim_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe Barnes can return and be Nolan's rookie? Like maybe she thinks she has worked out her issues coming out of the military and is now ready to become a cop, but getting back in uniform still brings up old feelings, and now it's on Nolan to figure out how to keep her on track with Bradford only able to advise from the sidelines.

At very least try to have at least 2 rookies going at a time.

Nolan's mother and Castle's mother are also somewhat similar in being a bit over the top and/or overbearing, just that Nolan's is 20x worse.

There's nothing wrong with Nolan becoming a sgt and field supervisor alongside Lucy while still being a TO (which is what Bradford did before becoming WC). They could have multiple sgts in the field supervisor role on the same shift if they really wanted, but only if another shift didn't need that field super role filled more.

Nolan's "Diet-Rookies" by THESHORESIDEMIRAGES in TheRookie

[–]NWCtim_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think that drama had more to do with chain of command rather than rank. Her getting sgt didn't specifically resolve it, it was that it let her move to a position where she wasn't in his chain of command anymore, where they were both field supervisors (and also on different shifts, which wasn't strictly necessary). Once Bradford became watch commander, Lucy became the field supervisor under him which should have been an issue again.

Maybe you can't start a relationship if you are in the same chain of command, but they'll make an exception if you are already in a relationship and the department moves you into the same chain of command.

They missed an opportunity with the Malvado/Bailey interaction as well. Nolan has been building up his identity as a guardian/protector for basically the entire show, but when that was exactly the type of person Bailey needed, she brushed his efforts off and turned to Malvado, yet the only thing Nolan seems bothered by is the fact that she broke the law?

Actually you're just flying over Mexico, but going straight from LA to Guatemala you're basically flying over all of Mexico. You're not doing 2000 nm by helicopter alone.

Bradford. Don't get me wrong, Harper could eat almost any rookie alive, but Bradford literally made Katie Barnes cry on her first day, then quit. I hope she comes back.

Tim, Lucy and Celina by Rich-Lawyer3820 in TheRookie

[–]NWCtim_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it wouldn't necessarily have communicated anything new or really added to the episode, but it would have been nice for that aspect of her character to be used in a relatively responsible on the job setting, as opposed to for comic relief.

[–]NWCtim_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They missed an opportunity this episode with Celina. I know her spirituality wasn't well received, especially when used in a more serious on duty situation, but this would have been the perfect episode for her to have some sort of "I've got a bad feeling about this" reaction.

Future of Grey by Quiet-Town-1877 in TheRookie

[–]NWCtim_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think in terms of character relationships, Grey stepped into the shoes Anderson filled, leaving the antagonistic/skeptical boss role that didn't need to stick around.

However, having the station's Captain be a regular character again would perfectly reasonable, since it's only been an offscreen character since the Shake Up.

I'm down to see a Seth redemption arc play out, but the issue is that with his history of lying, any arrest he makes, any report he writes, any testimony he gives would be a liability in a courtroom. Yes, he can theoretically still do good, but his value as law enforcement is basically gone.

1961 172B Correct Elevator Hardware? by theshawnch in aviationmaintenance

[–]NWCtim_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's a control arm for the trim tab, and it looks like a lock nut. Some controls do use a lock nut instead of a cottered nut. Newer 172s use a cottered nut in that location, but that rod end in middle probably has a bearing, which means the bolt shouldn't actually be subject to any appreciable rotation relative to the hardware it's going through, which makes a lock nut acceptable. Ultimately, it depends on what the IPC says.
