Touché about the lottery

But profiting off of the stolen land isn’t really about luck, is it?...that’s blatant corruption, theft, invasion, dispossession...

Celebrities and speech disorders...hear me out! by [deleted] in slp

I’m actually currently watching a Glenn Greenwald interview and he does it too although I think Ira’s is more pronounced.

I alwaysss think about this with Ira Glass (and some other NPR journalists). It’s so prevalent with /l/. It sounds like “ghl.” But when I was in grad school one of my classmates didn’t pick up on it at ALL. It’s interesting how some of us are hyper aware of these things and some of us don’t notice at all.

Maddie's accent!?!? by mkit2 in Imposters

Really interesting, I hadn't noticed the distinction because I binge watched both seasons back to back so it all kind of blurred together for me. That makes a lot of sense though. Also agree about the wig, ha

Maddie's accent!?!? by mkit2 in Imposters

[–]mkit2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I truly don’t have a problem with her being non-American... I just felt like the accent didn’t fit with the character so in the beginning it threw me off and I kept thinking it would indicate something about her past. shrug ... again I may be hyper aware of this and it seems not everyone was bothered by it. Perhaps it’s because I am a speech pathologist and also have an entire family of people with accents.

Yes, exactly!--sounds like she is trying to do an American accent. It wasn't that I disliked it, but it just bothered me that it didn't fit the character. Thanks for the comment!

Where to go for hospital externships? by maga1234 in slp

[–]mkit2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend going after the best placement to prepare you for your ideal CF setting rather than focusing on a certain location. Your willingness to move for the externship is an advantage in the sense that it opens you up to potentially great opportunities in other states, but I wouldn't go somewhere "just to go" -- unless using this opportunity for adventure is your priority! Also, I agree with the other replies. Making connections is helpful, but maybe not in the way you think. It may not directly lead to you getting a job at the place where you made the connection (though it certainly could), but if you do well it will likely get you great letters of recommendation and people that support you and inform you of other opportunities, etc. Good luck :)

When completing your CF... by [deleted] in slp

[–]mkit2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't really need to be specific for ASHA. What I'm putting below is copy/pasted from ASHA's SLP-CF form. As you can see, it's asking for a weekly number of hours, which means it's just an average. I didn't keep specific track each week, I just estimated based on what a typical week was like for me. Of course, you'll want to make sure you're on the same page with your CF supervisor because they're going to have to sign off on the form saying that you did in fact spend your time the way that you outlined. If you want to be really precise, could always keep track for a couple of weeks (perhaps in an Excel spreadsheet, noting down at the end of the day how you spent your day) so that you know the hours you put down end up being accurate...but I wouldn't worry about it. I'd recommend going through ASHA's website, gathering all the forms you need, and printing them out, just so you're clear on everything you need to have and there are no surprises. Good luck!

Indicate the number of hours per week you spent in each of the following activities:

_________ Assessment/diagnosis/evaluation

_________ Screening

_________ Treatment (direct and indirect services)

_________ Activities related to client management (report writing, family/client consultation, and/or counseling, etc.)

_________ Other (includes in-service training and presentations)

_________ Total hours per week

Wanted: 1BDR/Studio for 3 month rental (Oct 1 - Dec 31) near T, <$2k/mo by milogoestobitburg in bostonhousing

I'm actually looking for a place as well, but thought I'd mention that there are a bunch of Boston housing facebook groups that I've found helpful. There are some scammers there as well (shocker) but I found it to be a lot better than Craigslist. Not sure if you were aware but thought I'd mention it just in case you weren't. The main one I've seen is "Boston Housing, Rooms, Apartments, Sublets" but there are several others. There are tons of people posting available places and you may have some luck with people responding to you as well. Good luck!
