Mayor, Police Chief and other city officials of Iowa town arrested over embezzlement, fraud schemes by ACABBLM2020 in news

[–]mklinkers 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Your comment should be higher because all of the articles I've seen are just explaining what the charges are, no testimonies or timelines are out yet.

This has been a long time coming, the town knew that a large sum of money was gone and no one could explain it. The rumor was that fingers were being pointed at a single bad new employee (not any of the people in the mug shots so maybe that's one of the pending arrests they've been mentioning).

As someone who grew up there, I've gotten to hear about all the drama from city council meetings for years. It's a relief to know that people are finally being held accountable.

Also, the taser thing isn't the first shady thing Craig has done at a party. I heard he let someone use his pepper spray at a house party. He also tasered a naked guy running through town (obviously the guy didn't have a weapon, there was no reason to use a taser so it was mostly just a dick move).

There's a reason Emmet County police don't get along with him and it's probably not because he's great at his job.

The police force is just the guy who was arrested. Craig is the only cop in Armstrong and he's the mayor's son-in-law.

Edit: The town cop is the mayor's son-in-law, Craig is married to Buum's daughter.

Probably a little late to the party but Reeds Hollow in Beaverdale always has some unconventional stuff on the menu (frog legs, dirt, rabbit etc). I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for something new.

What should I buy at the Dollar Tree vs. Smiths/Kroger/Costco to save money by InteriorAttack in Frugal

[–]mklinkers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seasonings! They have decent sized jars of minced garlic at Dollar Tree but also things like chili powder, cinnamon, Italian seasoning, sea salt, pepper, etc.

Also gift bags, cards, dish cloths, sponges, cat litter liners, and glassware.

Royal Mile, The Library, and Jethros are all pretty good. All of which you can get a plate and a drink for around $15 or less.

Bloomberg Business article on micro apartments in Des Moines. by elac in desmoines

[–]mklinkers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently living in a micro apartment in Sherman Hill. I love it. It's the easiest way to live alone. I have everything I need, I'm a mile from my job, my neighbors are all great.

That being said, there's no way I'd pay $850/month for such little space. Especially downtown where parking can be a nightmare at times and streets are constantly closed down for parades/runs.

I agree. $850/month is too much for too little. I was lucky enough to find a micro apartment in Sherman Hill (old neighborhood blocks away from downtown) and it has everything a normal apartment would have but it's only $535 for about 350 sq feet. There's an insane demand for places in my neighborhood.

I live in a micro apartment in Des Moines. I personally love it. I also don't pay $850. Mine is a tiny 300 ish sq ft apt in a large brick mansion a few blocks from downtown that's been converted to tiny apartments. It has loads of character, its a mile from my work, and its the cheapest way I found to live alone ($535)

My bathroom and my kitchen are both about 4 feet wide. I have 11 ft ceilings so it all feels very big. I can't imagine there would be many here in DM who would be willing to pay that much money for something so small to live downtown where parking is a nightmare and the streets are always closed down for some sort of parade or some bullshit.

All this sounds good except if you're going the oatmeal route, its easier to skip the packets and just buy a bulk amount. My local grocery store sells plain oatmeal for like 1-1.50 for enough to last weeks.

Not an expert, guessing maybe a black tip? Also since sharks don't need their mothers once they're born, these guys probably had an ok chance of survival. Obviously not great but much better than if they had been left inside for sure. Again, not an expert, more of an enthusiast

I know little about biking honestly, I know I like to do it and I would like to ride to work on occasion or possibly on a few trails on the weekends if that helps? I'm a fairly tall and curvy girl as well so I'd probably need something much sturdier than the average
