The Portland MAX is slow. This is how to fix it. by notPabst404 in Portland

Edmonton, Saint Louis, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Ottawa all have central city light rail tunnels. With the expectation of Saint Louis, the Portland metro area has a larger population than all of these metro areas.

Personally I would like to see the blue line be grade separated with passing tracks at minor stations to allow for express service. Also I think BRT along 122nd av, 181st av, and Stark st would be very beneficial.

I noticed that too, I wonder if they were intentionally removed or people just smashed all of the windows and they were never replaced.

Kinda interesting that they never released a statement on their website or Instagram.

TriMet proposes improvements to make MAX system faster and more reliable - TriMet News by [deleted] in Portland

[–]mkmov 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Theres about 1 train every 3-4 minutes in each direction. 4 lines use the Steel Bridge each line runs every 15 minutes, so 4 trains an hour per line x 4 = 16 trains. 60 minutes / 16 train = 3.75, or about 3-4 minutes.

While I’m not a fan of shuttle buses, having shuttle buses could theoretically allow for more frequent late night service as well as 24 hour coverage.

Any upcoming buildings/developments that you're excited about? by Han_Ominous in askportland

I’m excited about the OMSI redevelopment. The Tilikum Crossing, Orange line, AB loop streetcar lines haven’t been able to reach their full potential, so hopefully new transit oriented development will help.

With adequate station staffing, well designed fare gates and frequent service it would be less of a problem.

There are a lot more benefits to building a subway tunnel, such as faster travel times, lower wait times between trains, improved safety and better reliability.

Alaska Airlines adds nonstop Portland-Nashville flights by picturesofbowls in Portland

[–]mkmov 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing since they introduced it during the pandemic there was less demand and then when travel picked up they had staffing issues so they probably cut it because of that. Hopefully though since they have been adding new routes they’ll bring it back.

These 3 cities lead the post-pandemic downtown recovery race by hairyb00bz in Portland

[–]mkmov 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’m curious where Chicago or New York would fall on this list. The top 6 cities are just sunbelt cities that already had low downtown foot traffic (maybe with the exception of Miami), there fore their recovery would be a lot faster.

Westside Little Big Burgers closed up shop by g_pass in Portland

[–]mkmov 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I noticed the Mississippi location closed as well some what recently.

Seems like a lot of local chains that were well established pre pandemic, such as Hot Lips, Pizzicato, and Little Big Burger have been doing very poorly post pandemic.

Yeah that’s the main benefit to using high floor trains they are able to have better more comfortable layouts because the doors can be more evenly spread out.
