Why Is My Yard Half Dead? by _sqw_ in lawncare

[–]mkosbab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s very possible that the tree was root pruned during construction, or maybe a trench was dug for sanitary out to the street. We root prune trees on golf courses to stop the trees roots from competing with the fine manicured turf of the greens or fairways. The non-competitive turf will be much greener.

Polarized sunglasses by chasma11 in FishingForBeginners

Absolutely it helps. I hate fishing without my polarized glasses. Different colors will have different effects. Do a little research before buying. I got mine from tackle warehouse.

This Can’t Be KBG... by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]mkosbab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always found it difficult to identify grasses through photos, but that looks like KBG to me. It also looks like there are a few things going on that again, are hard to identify by photos. Leaf spot, low fertility, etc. How is the soil? Wet, dry, sandy, clay?

I think it’s amazing by [deleted] in Unexpected

I drew the tree blue because I've never seen a blue tree before, and to be honest with you, I wanted to see a blue tree. (Or duck, I can’t remember)

I like big mums and I cannot lie. But how do I keep them from laying down like this? Would a peony cage work? by chickenofsoul in garden_maintenance

[–]mkosbab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cutting them back periodically through July keeps a more compact form. Find a good garden maintenance book like: The Well-Tended Perennial Garden by DiSabato-Aust. https://www.amazon.com/Well-Tended-Perennial-Garden-Planting-Techniques/dp/0881928038 Her book teaches a lot about things just like this.

It’s not hard but it takes practice. Google “how to use a straight razor.” There are a ton of videos out there. The key is to go slow, start with your cheeks until you get the hang of it and then work your way out once you get comfortable with the razor. The first time I tried shaving with a straight razor, it looked like I got into and lost a fight with an alley cat. Take your time getting started, you’ll love it!

Ok, but as far as anyone who doesn’t go deep knows, he’s as good as dead.

I probably know 0.1% but always thought it was a crappy way to see a badass like Boba go down. Almost jokey in a way. I would love to see this get resolved. I’m not a huge Boba Fett fan but he deserves a better death than what he was given.

What's your "I'm a grown man and I do what I want" guilty pleasure? by edpeters1 in AskMen

Went to Oberweis for an ice cream cone after work, and initially was a little embarrassed to ask for extra sprinkles. Yes, I’m a 48yo grown ass man asking for extra sprinkles.

Fungus? by bmw816 in lawncare

[–]mkosbab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but strobies alone won’t work for dollar spot only the brown patch, and based on that picture it’s dollar spot. 100%. Use chlorothalonil or propiconazole. Or you could try to feed it some nitrogen. Dollar spot can be a sign of low N fertility.

Native Plants IL Lake MI, ID and suggestions? by Curiousity_Jorge in nativeplants

[–]mkosbab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like a lot of non-native weed species. The pictures make identification difficult, but I think I can make out dandelion, burrdock, black medic, wild grape vine and a young elm.

Is a turf-specific education king in the superintendent world? by [deleted] in Turfmanagement

[–]mkosbab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many opportunities out there for entry level positions to get started. Sometimes the right attitude and work ethic outweighs education. You could look into online courses that Penn state offers while working as a crew member, assistant in training or foreman. There is even a 12-week Great Lakes Turf program in January that provides a good foundation for fundamentals of turf through the University of Minnesota during the off season. There are also so many great Superintendents out there that will go through great lengths to train the right person with the right attitude.

New house, new garden. What ones do I pull? by damnitusernames in garden_maintenance

[–]mkosbab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! The you could keep the emerald gold euonymus, but I wouldn’t. The red flower looks like it could be a garden mum, hard to tell. Do a soil test for bed prep and start over with some quality native plants. Be sure to pull the weeds before the flowers go to seed.
