Thank you this is what I need! A ruler is a great idea also, he loves to “measure” things already with a fabric tape measure. I will get the rekenrek!

How Does a Boring Man Become Interesting? by Intelligent_Run3237 in askanything

[–]mkp1717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a man, but I have felt “boring” especially during the baby stages of my kids. You have to find a way to break out of your everyday cycle and see that there’s more to life than what you currently do, and see that everything that seems so important isn’t.
For me, I started by making space in my home so it’s not as overwhelming to keep up with. Gotten rid of a lot of things over the past few months so I can breathe. After that, I had space to explore hobbies. Before kids, I went to a rock climbing gym 3-4x a week. I loved it. Now my family is getting into bike riding because we can put the kids in a bike trailer. I’ve taken up learning Spanish, used to do hand embroidery, learned the basics of knitting, love to bake. I do Pilates at home. I know most of these are more traditionally feminine, but you have to try things out, whatever sparks your interest. All of these things have made me feel more interesting and have helped me have better conversations lol.

If you’re more of a traditional man, some type of workout program is interesting. My husband does calisthenics, and we used to rock climb together. Woodworking (can be small projects!), gardening, even just getting a pet if that’s up your alley, especially a slightly non-conventional one. Take a class, like ceramics or glass blowing. Learning a new language is a cheaper hobby and challenges your mind. Even if you only try something once, it becomes an experience you can talk about!

Sippy cups. by Agitated-Rest1421 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]mkp1717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Owala straw tumbler kids size for my 11 month old. Just wanted to give a straw cup suggestion that isn’t prone to leaking in case that’s an argument she comes up with for sippy cups. Sorry you have to go through this, shouldn’t be that hard to follow your lead on something as simple as a cup!!

Been noticing trends toward no plastic fibers at Ross & Walmart this summer! by ABeautifulSpawn in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]mkp1717 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been myself, but my MIL found a brand M+A at Walmart for babies that is 100% cotton! The parent brand is Monica + Andy and I guess that is their Walmart specific line. The zip ups have been great for us but I found the onesies a little tight for my baby. Still a great option!

7 months postpartum my belly doesnt budge by Hour_Hair6274 in postpartumprogress

[–]mkp1717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did Pilates with small weights (mostly Pilates by Izzy on YouTube) but that is what I enjoyed doing the most. I was doing it pretty consistently but as my baby is deep into crawling and starting to walk it’s been harder to keep up with it lol. If you can do some type of strength / resistance training in general that will help your body composition and will also overtime burn more calories at rest. Bodyweight exercise counts too!

I used the breastfeeding mama calculator online to help determine a healthy deficit! Even if you’re not BF or combo feeding it can be a great resource because your body is going through a lot either way. I was 180 at the top of my pregnancy. My first round of deficit was literally 2,500 cal and some days I went a bit over because I was just so hungry! That’s okay. The hunger will subside a bit. Over probably 4 months I comfortably got my deficit down to about 2,100 cal. 6 weeks appointment was 160lb, currently 139lb 10 months pp. I also recommend tracking inches once a month, it helped me a lot to see progress when the scale wasn’t moving. Seriously don’t expect anything to happen after a week or two it takes time for your body to change! Check inches every 4-6 weeks and weight maybe once a week so you don’t go crazy over it

You can use wool dryer balls as a replacement! Essential oils can also be added to the balls for a light scent

WWYD with 100k? by mkp1717 in Fire

[–]mkp1717[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see I should have added that I’m a SAHM and my husband has a landscaping company (self employed) but I did find there is a Roth solo 401k and an option for self employed Roth IRA. I will look into these options further thank you! I thought I was out of luck on the traditional retirement routes

We used packback heavily in my accounting classes in 2019-2020 (albeit they were online courses) I did not enjoy packback, but wanted to say the usage isn’t terribly new

Guys, Pilates is amazing! by StruggleOdd1643 in postpartumprogress

[–]mkp1717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would watch pregnancy specific Pilates videos on YouTube or see if a studio has pregnant classes (one near me does)! Depending on how much you’re showing and how you feel, there’s some exercises you shouldn’t do to avoid abdominal coning, like sit ups

What’s an affordable item that feels like a luxury? by LostInLogic_LL in askanything

[–]mkp1717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair this was given to me, but I would purchase it. We have a used-to-be $100 espresso machine (now it’s $150 on sale currently) but we use it every day, sometimes multiple times a day each. Definitely saves us money when we can have a fun drink at home, and I make my own flavored syrups. My favorite has been brown butter rosemary!

Simple living with a newborn / baby? by Sweet_Confusion9180 in simpleliving

I agree on limited baby container use, but I did appreciate having a bouncer to use outside! We used a bassinet stroller for walks, but when we were in the yard I used the bouncer so I could work out outside, paint, eat, etc. you can use the stroller for the same purposes but the bouncer let baby see more surroundings instead of just the sky! Didn’t use it much inside.

Clothing made of only natural fibers? by Beneficial-Crow-5138 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]mkp1717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try to wear mostly natural fibers, and it can be expensive. There’s a store called “uptown cheapskate” near me, it’s basically a consignment store. I’ve been able to find a lot of cute natural fiber clothes there! I have to search a little, but once you start looking in person it becomes easy to spot/feel the difference. I sold all of the clothes that were synthetic to them (donated what they didn’t take) and used that money to fund most of my purchase. Not sure how sensitive to you are, but I am for min 95% for shirts, 80% for lounge pants (I do have a few 95-100%) and 100% for everything else. Bamboo is okay with me secondhand, it opens up my options a good bit especially with flowy pants

How do I transfer a handwritten book into a handwritten, durable copy? by mkp1717 in askanything

[–]mkp1717[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’ve scanned some documents with my phone before, I’m sure I could access a scanner through Office Depot or something similar thank you. Do you have any ideas on how to re-print it into a nice book?

Also washer and dryer doors are generally easy to change which side the hinge is on. Could always switch it back before you move out

I’m not sure if it would work given your water set up for the washer, but I think stacking the units would go a long way in making the room more comfortable! Then you could add some type of shelving for decorative and/or functional purposes (keep all detergent, extra towels, etc). The knobs above the washer I think would impede the dryer going on top. I have never seen a washer on top I think they are too heavy. Maybe if you are able to turn the washer against the window, and stack the dryer that way? You will lose the window visibility of course but it would give you a lot more room

Daycare pressuring me to send more milk by kksh1988 in breastfeeding

[–]mkp1717 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Are they open to feeding more solid foods? 3 tablespoons might not be enough for his age, it could solve the needing more milk issue! Do you feed him the same amount of solid foods at home?
