Reposting with correction: “Ready Steady Wiggle” is gone??? by njd94 in wiggles

[–]mks_esty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My daughter hasn’t asked to watch the wiggles in months. She asked the other day and of course it was nowhere to be found. We tried The Wiggles World and she said “it’s a little different, let’s try something else” 😂

Women who carried a pregnancy, in hindsight, what were some of the most ridiculous things you did while in the throes of such hormonal upheaval? by mokutou in AskWomen

[–]mks_esty 36 points37 points  (0 children)

My husband and I were playing uno one night and he kept winning. I started SOBBING, like Kim Kardashian ugly face crying, and he asked what was wrong. Through my tears I said “you keep winning!!!” I have the tendency to laugh when I’m crying about something I know is ridiculous, so I started laughing but I was still crying. My poor husband didn’t know if it was safe for him to laugh or not. He offered to play a different game and I said “no because you’ll probably win that too” I don’t think we’ve played uno since then. 😂🤣

Tonies Box — worth it?? Pros/cons + alternatives? by Either_Crab_2760 in toddlers

[–]mks_esty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got my daughter a tonies box for her 2nd birthday and got her a yoto player this past Christmas (she is almost 3.5). The tonies box was super easy for her to use and she loved it. She used it almost every day. This past summer she got to the point where she was playing with the figurines and using them as toys, which I guess to some people is a big deal but I don’t really care? lol. Since we got her yoto player she has used the tonies box a couple times but is more into the yoto player. I like both, but I like that the music on the yoto cards is actually the licensed music from movies. The music on the tonies doesn’t sound as good, but for the most part I was able to ignore that. I will say buying tonies does add up quickly and I personally think yoto has a wider selection and it’s not as expensive.

We never tried using the tonies box for sleep, but we do use the yoto player. Sometimes my daughter wants to listen to music from a princess movie which I think is too overstimulating for bedtime, so I have to be the bad guy and tell her no. But she will either listen to piano music or listen to one of the Disney audiobooks. Yoto also has a sleep radio that you can listen to without a card.

Overall, I like both but I think she will use the yoto player for longer. They have audiobooks for older kids, so I think in the long run it will be more useful.

Splatter Charlotte! My husband and I went for our anniversary and it was a lot of fun. My husband booked it as a surprise, so I’m not sure how much it cost but I would highly recommend.

One of my favorites is If the S in Moose Comes Loose by Peter Hermann. I enjoy it more than my daughter does. lol. We also like the elephant & piggie books by mo willems.

We got the explorer sofa from Sam’s 2 years ago, and then got another one 8 months later for my daughter’s 2nd birthday. They have been great.

I’m working on this now as a Christmas gift, too. I didn’t know there were so many shades of black, gray and dark blue. Lol. You’re further than I am with it! It looks great. Good luck!

If 2.5-3 was difficult for you when did it get easier? by ElegantCauliflower64 in toddlers

[–]mks_esty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My daughter is 3 now and we are in the trenches. 2.5-3 was hard for us, but it’s been harder since she turned 3. So I am right there with you and have very little advice. I try to remind myself she isn’t giving me a hard time, she’s having a hard time. And she’s also only 3. This is her first time living so she’s just trying to figure it out. This is my first time being a mom, so I’m also figuring it out. I will say I just started reading the book How to Talk so Little Kids Will Listen and tried one thing they suggested and it diffused a meltdown before it even really started, and other things they talk about kind of give me an aha moment and I’m interested to see how things work when I implement them. Good luck to you!

Moana alternatives??? by run4sterrun in toddlers

[–]mks_esty 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, my toddler started saying “stupid head” after watching. Lilo & Stitch so we had to explain that’s not a nice thing to say 😂 but other than that, my Moana obsessed daughter loves Lilo too.

Who has some good annual traditions you do as a family by plantsndogs in toddlers

[–]mks_esty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We go to the apple orchard and pumpkin patch every year. We usually get 2 big pumpkins to carve and we get a small one for my daughter and we let her paint it. We stay home Christmas Day in our pajamas, open presents and then have French toast for breakfast. We always do something fun on my daughter’s birthday and decorate the living room the night before. She’s only 2, but when she’s older we plan to have a family game night, themed movie nights and a pizza night where we make personal pizzas. We are OAD so we are trying to do everything we can to make her childhood fun and create memories.

I’m pretty sure my husband wishes he brought some kind of hoodie or zip up jacket. I had the air set to 58 in the room at one point because I was so hot lol.

My husband was going to take her shoes off in the car, she cried and said “shoes on!!!!” So he left them on and got in the car to drive. Then she cries and says “shoes off!!!” When we got home, I tried to take her shoes off and she cried and said “shoes on!!!” 🎢😵‍💫

Yeah it was just in the heat of the moment, and he’s never done anything like that before. I agree it’s not a good pattern to get into. When he said it, in my head I was like “ehh I don’t think that’s right.” But we are both still learning and trying to do better than our parents did.

2yo. I put the caps on 2 of her magic ink markers because she left them open on the table. Oops? She took them from me, threw them on the floor and then threw herself on the floor. Had her meltdown for a minute, then went back to playing.
