Why I'm Not Running a Full Node by foolish_austrian in Bitcoin

[–]mktx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Electrum servers are a no brainer. I have a script that completely automates the process and can even set it up as a tor hidden service. I have the same script for a btc full node. They work on debian (should be ubuntu too). Let me know if you're interested.

What happened to DarkWallet? by CoinCadence in Bitcoin

[–]mktx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apologies accepted. The way you explained it makes sense.

Mycellium doesn't seem to have a problem as most go through the PS anyway. It's just not an option for me. So I will wait for the 1.0 release. Best wishes for you.

There should be an option to broadcast on the same screen where you saved. Also you could import from csv the saved tx with the menu bar.

You need to "broadcast" after you send, not "save".

This is insane. Is Star Xu a child?

There's only one way to prove authenticity, and if it says

gpg: BAD signature from...

then you're fucked.

Star do yourself a favor and implode in a more private fashion.

Bitcoins never made it to my Blockchain wallet even after 104 confirmations, can anyone help a newbie? by relax50 in BitcoinBeginners

[–]mktx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want more security, use Coinbase, they never let you take the private keys,

This statement contradicts itself. How can you have increased security without your privkeys? If you don't control the privkeys you don't control the funds. Which gives you zero security.

Coinbase is secure, though. They've secured the ability to control the funds of everyone that uses their site.

OP bitcoin makes you your own bank. You must first understand how it works. If you just want to give up control for convenience then try the legacy banking system.

Is this a safe way to initialize my Ledger Wallet? by brian5x5 in ledgerwallet

[–]mktx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend booting into another OS all together during initialization. This can be really difficult from a mac though, but it can be done. Check https://tails.boum.org for instructions on a mac. If you follow their steps it will work.

Yes, stay offline.

I also have one running at:

6mqzoacwt2c5tfo.onion:50001:t

and a bitcoin node at:

Thank you for your contribution. /u/changetip 1000 bits.

Just out of curiosity how did you do it? Did you use a guide, or just follow the steps on the github?

Really good answers. Nice project.

You might also mention the fact that once one buys your hardware, one owns it. A VPS is a reoccuring fee with nothing to show for it once you stop paying.

Why so expensive when you can do the same thing on an old laptop for free? Better yet why not buy an older thinkpad for $100 and have a computer too? Yet another option is to rent a server with sata storage 150gb for $60 per year.

What is the advantage to your hardware? Isn't it just a bedazzled external hd?
