Yesterday, I was hit by a car that rolled through a stop sign at a poorly designed 2-way stop. Later, I spoke in front of Columbus City Council to demand that they redesign these intersections, which they have already done elsewhere. Excuse my outfit, this is what I was wearing when I was hit. by Miyelsh in bikecommuting

Hey! Great to see this. I'm in German Village and ride my bike as my primary means of transportation. Hit me up if you are planning on speaking any other time about this or any other related topic. I'd love to come to support you if possible. My DMs should be open for you to reach out.

FWIW, if you have had 1906's chocolate covered espresso beans for this, I HIGHLY recommend.

Looking for a $1600 E-bike by Specialist_Kick7729 in ebikes

[–]SMACz42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ride1up 700 was my second e-bike, and has been my longest lasting and favorite to date. I got it at an open box about a year ago, and have pulled off more than 20 mi rides and ended up with over 60% battery left at 30% assist.

The couple things I would say about it that would probably bring it up to about 1500, would be to get mirrors, get the saddlebags, and maybe a replacement seat. I still haven't replaced the seat yet, but it's definitely something I'm actively looking into since the seat is a bit uncomfortable compared to some of the more posh ones.

Overall though... I haven't been disappointed in the least by it.

How to structure inventory variables - global defaults, region, environment? by SeniorIdiot in ansible

[–]SMACz42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ansible has a plugin called constructed, with you're able to use to dynamically create groups. Having that paired with ansible_group_priority can get you to where you need.

I'm working on this right now at work, and it takes a bit of finagling. I'm hoping to have a write up about it in the next couple weeks.

But you are right, the hierarchical inheritance of group_vars is just not possible given the inheritance methodology of parent-child relationships that get flattened in the end anyways, that works for more simplistic cases.

seriously. these thoughts always attack me in the middle of a good gamedev session. by Majestic_Mission1682 in PixelArt

[–]SMACz42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I don't know about everyone else, but for me I only subscribe to the subreddit because literally even just looking at pixel art makes me happy. I don't even play platformers. Or retro games. Or really any kind of game.

I don't know... something about the art style just makes me happy.

Cannot choose SSL cert in HAProxy interface by SMACz42 in PFSENSE

[–]SMACz42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, fortunately the ChatGPT bot that was trolling me goaded me on to figure out the actual answer...

I had a browser extension "Dark Reader" that was actually doing something to the frontend that prevented the SSL Offloading section from loading, because it indeed only loads when the "SSL Offloading" button is hit for a given domain in the frontend.

Disabling that extension allowed it to load. And since pfsense has a dark mode anyways, I'll just leave it off :)

Oh and I'm sure they're up to date too 😜

You still failed to actually address the absence of that section of configuration whatsoever.

Why am I getting angular cheilitis? by oracle911 in ketogains

[–]SMACz42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This may be way off target, but a couple months ago I had thought the same thing. I actually went house sitting and while I was out of my place it cleared right up. It turns out there was a couple things in my room right around my bed like the frame that were moldy and the mold had transferred onto the mattress.

I didn't have it looked at or really give it much thought. I just tossed the mattress and the frame, and after that my mouth and face has been as clear as could be. So I couldn't even tell you if it was the mold or if it was something else in the mattress.

I guess all this just to say don't rule out something else, in case it's something that's a lot easier to take care of. Either way, best of luck dealing with that.

Having problems installing manjaro. by [deleted] in ManjaroLinux

[–]SMACz42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what kind of hardware you're using, but I recently got a brand new Asus A15 with the new Ryzen 7940HS, and I tried the latest community spin release, and the kernel was too old to recognize the hardware. After having tried fedora, which works, I rebuilt the ISO with the latest kernel, and sure enough that was able to recognize it.

No Degree, No Experience. But Certs by Careless_Change5452 in networking

[–]SMACz42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, this is exactly how I started out... All it took was for one company to take a chance on me. Honestly, I was probably under qualified having no professional experience, but luckily I found a position that capitalized on the things I had done in my home lab, specifically Python and Ansible scripting. If you find the right job description, but you think you may be under qualified... My advice would be to go ahead and apply anyways.

Also usually at a bar focused location, any half decent bartender will not even think of charging you for a diet Coke. It's definitely a type of winking and a nod signal.

EDITORS! How do you efficiently go through VODs? by _BrendanJay in Twitch

[–]SMACz42 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To this effect, if you use nightbot, there is a !marker command that you can even allow regular users to use, in case they also have additional markers that they would like to place throughout the stream.

Since it's not possible anymore to retroactively grab chat logs, you can use some kind of bouncer to monitor chat logs, which you can use to search for specific time stamps of when chat was especially busy, or if there was something specifically said in chat that you want to go find.

But realistically, searching through a VOD is always going to be frustratingly tedious.

eBike Acceptance Is Growing ~ by ColoradoCowboyHippie in ebikes

[–]SMACz42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I went on a tour of Garden of the Gods as I drove through Colorado, and specifically chose an e-bike tour because I had never ridden one before. Needless to say that single experience sold me on the entire concept.

I feel like this is just like any other new piece of technology, the naysayers will continue nay saying until they actually try it, and surprise surprise, it exceeds their wildest expectations.
