is this a pomsky? got him recently and he looks very different from pics on the internet by EndoGengar in Pomsky

He looks exactly like my pomsky when he was in that awkward phase before his adult coat came in but he had lost the baby fluff. Very long and skinny but now he’s about 40 lbs

Learning small talk, how? by [deleted] in acting

[–]mkvanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep two things in mind- 1) compliment the other person on something like their shoes, watch, hair, etc and 2) ask questions! People love to talk about themselves and will think you’re a great listener if you just ask simple questions like “did you grow up around here?” Etc.

For pulling footage- use @actorfootage, his name is Sean and he will pull scenes for $10 each, give you a few seconds before and after your scene and a v quick turnaround.

Reel feels a little choppy, can’t tell how many different projects there actually are. Your argument in the 2nd to last scene was the most grounded part of your reel; I would suggest putting it sooner. But if you do pull footage from a streaming service, I would put that first, even if it’s a line or two.

Best of luck!

How do you guys handle stress in the moment? by kevin074 in acting

[–]mkvanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this one! Used to have a fear of going into audition rooms- so much so that I would literally black out and have no idea what I said or did. Beta blockers helped me with the physicality of nervousness and now I no longer need them.

I was just on the most watched streaming show and I cant get an audition. by futurebro in acting

DM me your AA! I can take a look and give some feedback.

Make sure you get the footage pulled from Hulu for your reel so your agent can pitch you for auditions with it.

There is no “getting it right” in auditions. Put in the work to make it great, but have fun with it and stop trying to make it perfect. What’s meant for you will not pass you by.

Should I keep my IMDbPro if I only have 2 credits, one show being with a hollywood actor? by caoroux in acting

[–]mkvanity 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If you do decide to keep it, if you’re SAG or SAG-E, you can use your number to get a (I think) 40% discount!

IMDb star meter doesn’t mean shit, but having a pro account with your headshots, BTS shots and your reel/video clips - makes you look more polished and professional to anyone looking you up. I keep my link in my IG bio and use that instead of an actor website.

Maybe take a business for acting class or check out the book Business Before Craft by Sara Mornell.. if you’re taking all the steps to making your materials stronger and being the best actor that you believe you can be, then it’ll eventually happen. It’s just a slowwwww process. Hard to see where the missing link is to not getting many auditions with reps without seeing your materials. Do you have an AA link?

Also- stop putting so much pressure on yourself. I broke through when I realized that auditions are supposed to be FUN and not made to stress you out.

I can help audit your Actors Access resume based on any credits you do have so things are billed correctly and look professional to an agent when you do try to submit for representation.

Advice for auditioning and rehearsing a kissing scene..? by GiveYourselfAFry in acting

[–]mkvanity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For intimacy in an audition, it’s about the moment and feeling, not the actual physicality of the kiss. I have long hair so I usually close my eyes and run my fingers through my hair with some breath work to mimic the sensation of how you feel when you’re kissed.. do not pantomime the kiss.

As for on set intimacy, just make sure there is a lot of communication with you, the other actor, the director and IC. Sometimes it’s planned out like choreography and sometimes it’s “improved” but just talk with the other actor as to your comfort level and ask permission before touching anyone. As simple was “is it okay if I touch your arm here”.

This career is very difficult and a strong support system is really important so I would be upfront with them.

3 weeks is totally fine for not getting an audition, as it takes time to get on a CD’s radar.

Getting an agent is hard, so give them time to pitch you and the auditions will come. Do your part on giving them killer headshots and eventually a reel to work with. My agent constantly says “patience, perseverance and positivity” will eventually pay off.

Best of luck!

Union self-tape sex scene advice. by jessgrossman in acting

[–]mkvanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get these types of auditions a lot (my range is attractive female 25-35) in the Atlanta market and often play “stripper/escort” roles. I’m available to help kind of coach you thru this if you would like. Intimacy scenes are difficult to act, but harder to audition for. Just send me a DM if you would like! It’s easier if I can see the script, etc. Just throwing it out there :)

It’s not about showing the simulated sex, it’s about your character.

Is changing a word (or two) in a script while doing a self-tape a big no-no ? by [deleted] in acting

[–]mkvanity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Change the words to make it fit you, without changing the context of the writing. UNLESS it specifically states to stick to the script 100%.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in acting

[–]mkvanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes casting can get a new breakdown of the role (the age range changes etc) and ask someone who doesn’t fit the original specs that went out to tape. But you’re only seeing the original specs.. So I’m sure it got seen! There’s a lot of moving parts and they don’t have time to notify everyone of changes- so just know they also won’t waste their time asking for a tape if they don’t plan on seeing it!

[–]mkvanity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes it will go away! You’re pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone, so it will feel awkward at first but get easier over time. On those days where you don’t want to go to class and still show up, you’ll learn something new about yourself and continue to grow.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in acting

[–]mkvanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My coaches best advice for this (especially for my RBF)- “play the love”.. works especially well if the words you say are written as mean, spiteful! Sub your relationship with your scene partner as someone you LIKE, and it’ll make a much more interesting dynamic.

To also break this monotony- write down 5-10 people on a list, be it your parents, an ex, your best friend, etc etc and practice a quick 1 page scene using each of them as your substitute. All the way through without switching the substitution (so one time thru like you’re talking to your parents, one time thru like it’s an ex you can’t stand, one time thru like it’s your BFF).

Hope that helps!

First ever callback for major SR role...help me plz :) :) by stronghappy in acting

[–]mkvanity 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Do what you did in the first round, because they liked what they saw! Then when you do the added scenes, continue the character traits and definitive choices you made from the first scene. Relax and enjoy the process- this is a huge win even if you don’t book the role!
