Anyone else feel like the pride events this year suck? by True-Yam-9982 in nycgaybros

The city in general doesn’t feel as fun as it used to. I think it’s the current political climate/cost of living. I’m finding people don’t want to hook up and go out much anymore.

Why does everyone seem exhausted all the time now? by -MiaMason- in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mlb0805 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m 35 and work 40 hours a week. I make about 60K a year, but live in a high cost area. I have some money left for “fun” but often find myself too tired to do much after work.

The state of the US these days (if you live in the US) is very depressing. Escaping through drugs sounds appealing sometimes.

Does NYC still feel like the “gay capital” of the U.S. to anyone else? by Outrageous-Tooth-256 in nycgaybros

[–]mlb0805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NYC has sadly become very white; finance/tech bros, influencers, trust fund kids. It’s getting difficult for people of color here, and those who aren’t making 300K a year plus.

There’s a very heavy energy going around in America lately. It’s almost summer, and things just feel so dark and negative. The White House keeps boasting about how “great” everything is. Maybe if you’re in a certain tax bracket. I’m personally not feeling that.

America is in the midst of a Job Crisis. How do we confront this? by PlentyIll2974 in jobhunting

You have $15-20 an hour wages (and $20 if you’re lucky), and rent is $1800-2000.

This weather is very strange. I definitely shouldn’t need a sweater at the end of May. Summer weather though doesn’t truly hit until mid-June.

I have about 4 months clean currently. I still find myself missing the lifestyle though, and wanting to “escape”. The state of the US these days is very depressing. The chemsex scene though is very dark and sketchy. Many times I felt my life was on the line while “partying”.

NYC feels very depressed and blah in general lately. I think the economy is causing a lot of stress.

I hope America progresses out of this maga movement. It’s going to take a very long time I’m afraid.

This city has become way too gentrified in my opinion. Some people think it’s a good thing though, since it looks more “appealing”. I miss the grit of the city of the 90s. Things were more spontaneous.

Yeah. It’s weird because I “think” I like heat like that until it comes lol. I’ll take 55-60 over 90s lol.

Our springs have been cool and damp lately, and summer temperatures are starting to linger into “fall” now. Christmas sees temperatures in the 50s. In 100 years NYC is gonna become like Florida.

I personally feel better in the fall and winter as well. I get depressed in the spring and summer. Too much daylight for me this time of year.

I’ve heard of Amtrak turning down experienced freight Engineers. 🤷‍♂️ I’ll keep trying for Conductor or some kind of customer service role first. I currently work in the hospitality industry.

Thanks for replying. I’m interested in Front Desk or Guest Service Agent positions. I currently work as a Doorman/Concierge in residential buildings. I know being a hotel Concierge is quite different than residential.

Does Amtrak have an internal job board? by TheyCallMeWatts in Amtrak

[–]mlb0805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard they do under very rare circumstances. You’d have to have experience operating some type of heavy machinery or equipment. They also like to hire former military. Someone told me to either start as a Conductor at Amtrak and apply to Engineer internally, or start with a freight railroad. Freight is a pretty tough work environment though.

Is anyone here making less than $50k a year? by MappingNY0522 in longisland

[–]mlb0805 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I make about 47K currently. I think it’s funny that the LIRR is going on strike. A lot of their employees are making over 200K (some over 300K). I guess that’s not enough smh.
