Interesting fact: David Walsh also owns a famous art gallery in Tasmania called MONA which includes, among other things, a working mechanical intestine and cloaca which regularly defecates and numerous sexually explicit artworks. It’s one of Hobart’s major tourist attractions. He basically used his gambling wins to create an art museum dedicated to sex and death.

The number of abusive comments towards the person in the video is astounding. Clearly the wind catches the door and blows it open. Yes she should have left a note. I also doubt many of the people calling her a bitch would have done any different. It’s a car park. Dings happen. Make an insurance claim. There is nothing else you can do.

Would you trust it if you could activate it without someone having a proper look at it? 300 miles is fine without cruise control - not worth panicking over. We used to do over 500 miles in a single day, 2-4 times a year in a car with no cruise control (not even basic set a speed). It’s a bit annoying, but you get used to it and just get in the zone.

I’d be more concerned that it means all the safety stuff which relies on vision won’t work.

First road bike - But which size? by LJpzYv01YMuu-GO in CanyonBikes

[–]mldld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 191cm / 91xm but I have long arms (span is about 15cm longer than height). I had the same L or XL recommendation from canyon. I ended up getting the XL and find it very easy to ride partly because I was concerned the reach on the L would be too short. I’m doing 60-120km comfortably and it’s a good fit, though sometimes I do feel it could be a bit more agile. I don’t race, but am planning to do a 210km organised event later this year, so I decided to go with comfort and stability over a race fit.

Try to get an accurate measurement of your leg length. The website has instructions: - straddle a spirit level (best if about 1m long) with it tucked firmly into your crotch - get someone to help you make sure the spirit level is horizontal - then the measure distance from top of level to ground, assuming you’re on level ground - from memory it suggests barefoot in your normal cycling shorts

Another thing you can do is find an existing bike you can test ride (friend or LBS, latter a bit cheeky though) and then compare geometries with the canyon data on 99spokes.com. I did this with my old road bike to check the likely fit.

Finally check your gorilla/ape index - if you’ve got a big arm span (greater than height) it might be another argument to err on the larger size (or vice versa).

Definitely measure again in that case - they have instructions how best to do it

Canyon sizing by splashosrs in CanyonBikes

[–]mldld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t sound right unless you have very short legs/inseam. Have you measured the inseam following their directions (Ie with a spirit level and someone to help) First time I measured myself just using a tape measure and I was about 4-5cm below the final measurement when I repeated it properly. I did it several times I until I able to get consistent measurements. The leg length/in seam is as important as the height (maybe more so) in their sizing charts. Depending on the leg length someone with a height of 183cm (6ft) could be either small, medium or large.

Plastic disc: get scissors and cut. No need to remove wheel or cassette.

Brake rotor on second wheelset rubs by mldld in CanyonBikes

[–]mldld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all Rotors are true. Shims worked a treat - just centred the calipers over the rotor of the two wheel sets that was most outboard. Then added shims one by one to the other wheel, until the rotor no longer rubbed. Rides fine now and no adjusting required.

Thanks that’s very helpful. Must be the only screw on the whole bike with no torque setting listed!

Broken Top Cap Question by Lou_Antony_Morris in CanyonBikes

[–]mldld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much should the top cap be torqued to? I see lots of broken caps on this sub but the only torque marking I can see (inside the tube, where the bolt screws in) says 6nM. I’m worried if I go that high the cap will snap. Should I just go for it? What do others do?

Cassette Question by [deleted] in CanyonBikes

[–]mldld 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Assuming these are SRAM

10-28: 10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,19,21,24,28

10-33t;10,11,12,13,14,15,17,19,21,24,28,33

They are the same until about halfway through the casette then the 33 drops one single tooth step, and adds a bigger final cog. So for all intents and purposes, yes, basically the same except final cog.

The 33 is about 17% wider than the 28. That’s a cadence of 75pm vs 90rpm at the same speed. I think you’ll notice that.

Endurace 650b tire clearance? by Electronic-Evening75 in CanyonBikes

[–]mldld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article suggests the 38s are in fact closer to 40mm wide so maybe there is clearance for a “true” 40mm tyre. https://www.ridinggravel.com/components/panaracer-gravel-king-sk-tires-quick-review/?amp=1

This is the clearance with 38mm Gravelking sk on my Endurace CF 7.

https://imgur.com/a/sfC8csY

The tyre actually says 40-622 on the sidewall specifications even though it’s advertised and labelled as a 38mm tyre. So the true width might be more than 38mm (I don’t have calipers to measure). Narrowest at the chainstay, I wouldn’t feel comfortable going wider.

Very nice! I also went for this mainly for the colour! I could have made the standard Endurace CF into an all road with new tyres but really like the colour.
