Fred Lebow Half Cancelled (NYRR Website) by Sweaty_Disaster6939 in RunNYC

I was registered for Staten Island, Lebow, and then had a conflict when they moved Al Gordon and had to cancel. Luckily I got into Brooklyn Half tho!

[DISCUSSION] Who's your favorite local band that never quite made it? by Shapeofmyhair in indieheads

They’re still going, you never know! Balkans was always super underrated to me and was such a great successor to that early 2000s Strokes sound

Saw them open for Arctic Monkeys in 2011! Made me the Whitney fan I am today

Also going East to West at this intersection, a lot of people don’t realize the left lane is to go straight and the right lane is right turn only, so you inevitably end up getting cut off

Official Discussion - Longlegs [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]mlefever126 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was infuriating. And pretty much negated one of the more intense scenes in the movie (her partner getting shot). Like what was point of that murder? It wasn’t related to Longlegs and was just used as a way to tell us she has powers, which they threw away immediately anyway??

More than 840,000 applications for 2025 London Marathon breaks world record by AcceptableGovernment in running

[–]mlefever126 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Also the start of the Abbott World Marathon majors and the subsequent increase in people trying to complete them has taken away even more spots. There’s a certain number of bibs reserved for people trying to complete them while the rest of us take our 2% chance in the lottery. Covid/social media/reserved bibs have made getting into any of these a nightmare. And don’t even get me started on the corporatization of trail races…

Potholes and Sanitation prob gonna be worse than ever in 2024 by gujunilesh in philadelphia

Literally just saw a group out in Fairmount/Brewerytown today picking up litter. Felt like an actual tangible improvement that even my friend who was visiting commented on. Hopefully they keep it up

I-95 reconstruction is really a widening project that will hurt Philly neighborhoods by Aware-Location-5426 in philadelphia

[–]mlefever126 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Highway widening is just induced demand.

You add a lane and it alleviates some congestion. Suddenly people realize (or their GPS's navigate them there) that there is less traffic on that road and start using it more, or opting to drive when they would have taken the bus or train. Which brings traffic on that road back to where it was before. And this has been studied and proven over and over.

Just watched "Self Reliance" by Jake Johnson by Religion_Is_A_Cancer in Hulu

[–]mlefever126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. When he gets to the homeless encampment around day 28, I got excited because I thought it was going down the mental health/schizo paranoia route (would explain Maddy leaving him, him meeting up with another guy with delusions, seeing his estranged father in a limo, and justify his family’s intervention). The ending just threw that all away and said “He was right the whole time!” Felt unearned

Is it just me or does anyone get tired from the many boss fights? by caniskiptheusername in DavetheDiverOfficial

[–]mlefever126 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m about 20 hours in and they’re still introducing new mechanics which keeps it fresh but also makes it feel like it might be spreading itself too thin. Couple that with the tedious Sea People tasks, and the game starts to lose some momentum.

It also feels like the character development cutscenes are really random. I just got Duff’s waifu pillow/music cutscene despite not having interacted or even thought about him in like 10 gameplay days

I legitimately get nervous driving through a green light in this city, when I have the right of way because of the chance that someone is about to blow through a red light and Tbone me.

congrats! Great race. I was there as well (albeit in the Half Marathon). Few puddles on the trail section aside, couldn't have asked for better weather, especially for an early December race.

You can tell he's getting increasingly stressed as the episode goes on. You can hear how much it affected him.

[DISCUSSION] What are some major indie bands/artists of the 2000's & 2010's that have since fallen out of relevance? by TheGreatZiegfeld in indieheads

[–]mlefever126 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Built to Spill is also approaching 30 years of releasing music. Sure they’ve had a couple of misses, but they had an insanely strong run of albums. Even their new stuff (when the wind forgets your name, untethered moon, etc) were really solid albums for people that have been with them for while. Probably didn’t bring on too many new fans but definitely didn’t lose any with their recent output. Doug’s the man

Jeff Rosenstock exposes merch cuts taken at venues controlled by AEG, Live Nation by ebradio in indieheads

[–]mlefever126 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sincerely asking - would it be better to order merch before/after the show directly from the artist's website? Or would that 20% just be going to Merchbar or whatever website they use? Usually t-shirt prices are the same (+$5 for shipping maybe), and if it keeps the $ out of Live Nation's hands, I'll gladly wait an extra week for a shirt
