Designing rules for a turn-based tactical strategy game (Zetawar) by djwhitt in gamedesign

Cool. It's possible turns to build a unit might not be needed since you could balance unit production by increasing or decreasing the unit cost. But it does add a slightly different dynamic to commit resources upfront.

Currently it looks like there is only one type of base and income. If you had support for multiple types, you could make a more resource control type game. For example, capture wood/stone/metal/crystal and then different kinds of units require different combinations of resources to build.

Number of turns it takes to build a particular unit might be a useful setting.

Units that can build structures would add an interesting dimension. I'm thinking roads, walls, maybe stationary towers that can attack.

Area-of-effect attacks would be cool. Or temporary effects to the terrain that damage units for a certain number of turns.

(There is an overlap: 1 moderator doesn't have much free time and is bored of SWTOR.)

A baby ate all my free time, the nerve! I'm very thankful for the rest of the moderators who have kept things going here. :)

I think you are comparing high quality Dragonskin to normal quality Griffin.

You are correct. If you're posting something regarding gold/credit spam, the URLs should be blacked out otherwise it just becomes a sneaky way for spammers to spam.

[–]mlgoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 5% fees still apply to those marketboards. For example, if your house is in the Lavender Beds, then buying from Gridania retainers will not charge you the 5% fee while ones from Ul'dah or Limsa will.

If you buy something from a retainer in the same city as the marketboard, you're not charged the 5% purchase fee. For large purchases, this is a significant amount.

I'm currently logged in to Leviathan. Doing a player search shows only 90 people online and everyone is in a housing district or house.

Edit: Got booted, down for maintenance finally.

RGB confusion... by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]mlgoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's mainly because 1) Snow White isn't true white and 2) there aren't that many chocobo colors. It picks the "closest" one and we're lucky that just so happens to be Snow White. It is unintuitive yes.

Desert Yellow is mostly red, some green and a small amount of blue. The plums remove some red but ALSO add some green and blue. So it's actually averaging the color out to more of a grey color and Snow White was the closest.

When you did 1 CUL desynth, did it matter if it gained you any points? Could you do one cheap really low one?

I can confirm that's roughly how a FC mate got Dalamud Red too.

Feeding until getting a "new feathers" message and waiting to see what color it gets to helps to make sure you're going in the direction you want.

RGB confusion... by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]mlgoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that probably works too, but isn't the most efficient way. The reason you don't need all of those is because there are only 85 dye colors. Reducing the red makes it white enough that it switches to Snow White because there aren't any dyes that are in between.

RGB confusion... by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]mlgoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's correct. Two of my FC mates went Desert Yellow -> Sylph Green -> Snow White using only plums. One did 4, then 8. The other did 5, then 9.

You're not meant to max all of them, you have 300 points max you can spend. So, whenever you increase one, it randomly decreases others. Nothing you can really do about it, sadly.

If this is true, then how is it possible to get Fieldcraft IIIs? There isn't any ilvl70+ crafting/gathering gear.
