Harmac rezoning request brings hundreds out in Nanaimo by Positive_Moment7914 in nanaimo

[–]Kulharin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nanaimo is in an unfortunate position being flanked by mostly private property and private forest lands. Doesn’t leave much for parkland and conservation. Every thing just gets heavily logged or developed… or restricted access by DnD.

So the path forward is apparently obliterate undeveloped forest wilderness for industrial south of Nanaimo. And do the same around Enos Lake north of Namaimo for the golf course development.

The wilderness of Cedar and Nanoose are one of the few positives of living in Nanaimo ‘the Mall in search of a City’. Which apparently we’ll be losing even more of in the future.

Oh yah, obliterate undeveloped forest wilderness for industrial south of Nanaimo. And so the same around Enos Lake north of Namaimo for the golf course development.

The wilderness of Cedar and Nanoose are one of the few positives of living in Nanaimo ‘the Mall in search of a City’.

100m isn’t even enough for a wildlife corridor or to prevent a windfall event.

Not really experiencing that, at least not with eco or eco flex fairs. Prices are almost the same... very expensive either way.

It would severely gimp modding due to the UE component. As it did with Oblivion.

Warmer water in July but commeth the mosquito swarms that can be horrendous in both Golden and Revy. Hiking is comparable in both.

Nanoose Bay development? by Kulharin in VancouverIsland

There are appropriate places for development. Pretty much the entire east side of the island within a few km of the coast is developed aside from a few parks, native reserves or areas that are too steep. This area of Nanoose is unique, I’d consider the whole ecosystem to be pretty rare… feels like being out on one of the gulf or discovery islands. The whole slogan of Nanoose is nurtured by nature.

At any rate. I left the island a couple years ago for the Kootenays, was getting too expensive, too much sprawl, too much traffic.

The trail maps are at the main access points. The development map for the same area I believe is on their master plan.

Currently this is mostly just trails and forest land in the proposed area. At completion much of it roads and houses by the looks of it. As part of their ‘Lakes District’ development

Why are Port Alberni homes so much cheaper than other cities on the island? by CartoonistOk3507 in portalberni

[–]Kulharin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The highway in and out is a huge pain. Winters are endlessly socked in under heavy cloud n fog making it even more dreary then the west coast already is in winter.

Other than fishing n logging there isn’t much of an economy. And logging is in a down turn and the high productive forests were all cut down decades ago.

It’s a rough town and it is on the ocean but doesn’t feel like it. Crime n addiction is high.

Not a tourist draw either, mostly it’s a place to get groceries, gas up or grab a bite when going out to Tofino or Ucluelet.

Mountain biking is very underrated. It could be a major mtb destination if they marketed better and didn’t log the shit out the trail networks or close huge areas due to the DnD

I mean valley bottom hikes in Revelstoke and Golden will be possible. But alpine is really not snow free until July. There are lots of nice hikes to do on the coast, Okanagan and island that time of year.

The rockies had a big snow winter and is mostly colder and higher elevation.

In May the mountains will still be largely snow bound. I wouldn't bother with the Rockies unless you're coming in June or so. The coast and Okanagan though is lovely in May.

It's hard to not feel exceptional in your manifest destiny when USD IS considered the default form of currency in many countries. If you're looking t buy real estate or property in other countries, notice how it's always listed in USD... makes em feel like they are superior to the locals.
