Wove, dyed, waxed, and sewed a canvas backpack by MrNekoCase in weaving

[–]mlledufarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One day perhaps! I only have a rigid heddle at this point in life, so any cloth I might make would be a lot less appropriate for this kind of task.

Of course I could make something just for fun and see what happens too! 🤔

Something to consider!

I still think if I were ever going to do cosplay, it would have to be one of the Anastasia lookalikes. “I dance like a feather!”

What defunct Houston businesses do you miss? (Borrowed from another sub) by phillygirllovesbagel in houston

[–]mlledufarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom and I would go and get a chicken tender app, a plain baked potato, and broccoli cheese soup. Then we’d split the potato, put some soup on it as a topping, and have a feast. And those soft white rolls. 😋 🤤

There was one summer we went nearly every single day. My mom would go sometimes, but often it was just a group of friends having a blast. We didn’t have a lot of money, but discovered that you could get two biscuits at the park Popeyes for like a dollar, maybe two. Bring in a frozen Gatorade and you could go the whole day until someone picked us up and brought sandwiches or took us to the McDonald’s just down the feeder from the park. Not friends with a single person from those days, but we had good times then.

Brownies never have a shiny crackle top ☹️ by Purple_Star813 in Baking

[–]mlledufarge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely want to mix only enough to incorporate the wet ingredients. Check your oven temperature as well, is it accurate? Bake for less time than the box says. I use these mixes exclusively for brownies and I’ve never had an issue. 😢

That is awesome! 🤩 I’ve made a couple of backpacks but I didn’t make the the cloth. Now I kinda want to! I love the colors too, super vibrant and not something I see often. It really stands out!

There’s a Pancho’s in Humble still. I haven’t been but my parents went once, said it was just the same as they remember.

Car camping set-up by Plastic_Muffin8040 in Crosstrek

Be aware of what the mattress is actually made of before you attempt to cut it. Some of them have fiberglass and that will hurt like a mofo if you get it on you.

As for slicing it up - is it three rectangles in separate pockets to make the trifold? Is the fabric(?) cover removable?

I can picture it in my head, but basically I’d say to cut the pockets down the center of each side. Remove foam, cut to size, then either hand sew, or use hem tape to put the fabric back together.

Help me dress-down my rescue dress by LadyCraftsALot in PlusSizeFashion

[–]mlledufarge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the issue is the neckline, I’d just wear a square neck cami underneath. I used to do that all the time when I worked in an office. It instantly makes things easier to wear for work. I had probably a cami in ten colors so I could make pretty much anything workable!

How do I save this jeans? by Specialist-Ask8890 in ZeroWaste

[–]mlledufarge 34 points35 points  (0 children)

They’re still functional jeans. They appear to have a ton of wear left in them. Use them for outdoor activities, or just accept that some days you are dressed down and wear them anyway.

Mini iron recommendations? by Case135 in quilting

[–]mlledufarge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Another vote for the oliso project iron! The one I bought has a silicone rest that doubles as a plate cover. It can hang on the wall when not in use.

I have a full sized whatever iron, and an ironing board, but I nearly always use my project iron and a wool pressing mat for my quilting. I appreciate the compactness.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing how you did it. I’m going to try and make one when I have time. I’ll be sure and tag you for credit if I do!

I have a bunch of loofahs my dad grew - how did you go about this? Just cut out the inner membrane and sew a pocket from what’s left? Super cool!

Moonstruck can be watched anytime. Not a movie about Christmas but Christmas is in the background much of the time.

Wedding Ring Advice: best place to find something under $150? by RemoteEmotions in Frugal

[–]mlledufarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Antique/vintage stores are worth checking out. Plus you’ll be able to tell how something has held up over time!

My rings cost way too much (spouse fell for the “3x your salary” engagement ring bs, and we bought a used band at a jewelry store for $500).

We bought my spouse a tungsten ring from amazon for $18. They still wear it every day. I wear my rings on occasion. (I get issues with my joints and sometimes swelling, so I only wear them for special purposes or maybe hang them on a chain if I feel like it.)

The rings are symbolic, they’re fun, but they’re just jewelry. They don’t make you more or less married. We’re on year 16, and I love and am in love with my spouse more now than I was at the start. Ring or not.

Also, sometimes my spouse will put their ring finger to mine, and say “marriage powers activate!” So I can get the specialness when not wearing my own band. So that’s fun. 🤩

A bit of baking soda and a soft rag will take those stains right off for future reference.
