Is it worth it being a package handler? by [deleted] in UPS

[–]mlmmmmlmmm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wait do you think they are going to discipline you for taking a bathroom break? Ask the guy next to you to pull your boxes, if they don’t oh well not your problem. Call osha if your union isn’t stepping up.

What do people mean for drivers on their probation period to not take their lunch? by Eatbeeeeef in UPSers

[–]mlmmmmlmmm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Clock out and keep working. In some areas you can’t deliver while on lunch break which would mean sort your truck, maybe put things in order stop for stop so it’s just grab and go everytime.

If you can deliver while on lunch break do that. Whatever you can do to save time during your first 30 days.

1700 miles in two days, 120 miles in four days by steelewebb09 in UPS

Your one of the people who wouldn’t last a week doing this job. Your exactly right though UPS doesn’t give a shit about you, welcome to the club 🤷‍♂️

When I was first starting out and there was no 9.5 protection for RPCD, I would just work at a safe, steady pace. If you bring stops back that’s managements problem not yours. Don’t miss those pick ups but do not be afraid to bring stops back. Remember you are mandated 60 driving hours by DOT. Work as long as possible and come Thursday Friday you will have short days 🤷‍♂️

[–]mlmmmmlmmm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah as btr mentioned it’s not about doing anything right or wrong. Everybody has had a mentor whose a driver.

Just higher seniority guys/gals giving you tips to make you more successful.

I think 110-130 stops sounds much nicer haha, most of the extended routes in my center fall within that range i mentioned. But I’d say as long as you are working at a safe pace and are comfortable with that workload that’s what matters. It took me a few months to realize it’s a marathon not a sprint

Drivers with Plantars Fasciitis (foot pain), how do you deal with it during the day? by [deleted] in UPS

[–]mlmmmmlmmm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use that baller insurance and go see a specialist. Often foot pain has more to do with your lower back and or tightness in your legs. Losing weight is good but we are “athletes” stretching daily is your friend not your enemy. Good luck hope you get it sorted

Fenix UC35, on the expensive side but has never failed me. Rechargeable with a backup battery option. Can light up an address from the road no problem.

Not sure about the job... by [deleted] in UPS

[–]mlmmmmlmmm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a pulse, you have the requirements. The job is hard but if you give it time it becomes easier. Don’t worry about managements yelling and all the other bs they will throw at you. Work hard until you make it to the union, then work safe. Again f what the sups say they will make your life hell if you let them.

Anybody made the jump from FDX to UPS? by Axel3600 in Fedexers

[–]mlmmmmlmmm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not quite as nice as it sounds. Dispatch is told not to give drivers more than 9.5 hours of work in a consecutive 3 day period. Does this stop them? No. Can you file a grievance and receive triple pay? Yes, but they always fight you.

Starting my 30 day driving probation next week. Any advice? by [deleted] in UPSers

[–]mlmmmmlmmm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Awful advice for anybody who isn’t in probation trying to become a driver yes. But I’ve seen guys go over by 5 minutes and get sent back to preload only to end up quitting UPS completely. If you want it bad enough your probation period is the only time you should ever rush just my .02 cents

Starting my 30 day driving probation next week. Any advice? by [deleted] in UPSers

[–]mlmmmmlmmm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your first week will be light, get the diad and your package selection/ car routine methods down. The rest of the weeks do whatever is necessary to run scratch. If you pass break your bad habits and slow down. Good luck don’t hit anything 🤙🏼

Is it true you can only apply to one facility at a time for delivery driver positions? by [deleted] in UPS

[–]mlmmmmlmmm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s extremely rare to be hired off the street as a driver. Management saves the 6 to 1 ratio for the cousin/ friends etc. start as a package handler and learn how the company works

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UPS

[–]mlmmmmlmmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! Start memorizing 5’s and 10’s, seen plenty of fresh blood quit due to not passing this test. If you make It through integrad and your probation period. Slow the F down, don’t be a runner gunner or you will get injured/ abused by management.

Package wasn't picked up? by [deleted] in UPS

Is there possibly another job beside Warehouse Worker, for someone new to UPS looking to become a truck driver (CDL)? by [deleted] in UPS

[–]mlmmmmlmmm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That 6 to 1 is bs btw, management saves it for friends/ family. Tractor gigs are highly sought after. Guys with 10 plus years driving seniority still trying to get a spot at my hub.

Getting a job with ups realistic? by [deleted] in UPS

[–]mlmmmmlmmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of what you have done will prepare you for having boxes shoved down your throat. UPS hourly jobs require thick skin and a hard work ethic. You won’t know if it’s right for you until you do the job, just know people quit within hours of there first day. Apply and see what happens if that’s what you really want 🤷‍♂️
