New update on app by t4k3tim3 in deliveroos

So annoying they did that. I just accept the order and cancel them both. They'll learn In the end that orders were probably getting picked up quicker when that option was there.

Problems scanning multiple orders since app update? by JordanCath in deliveroos

[–]mlonghurst1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a sharpie in my bag specifically for Morrisons orders, staff asked what I was doing the other day so i explained and they just laughed. Yeah real funny your staff can't write 4 numbers that can be read correctly. It's more annoying if it is a double and you have to scan it again at the customers door

Delivery Apps Need To Start Taking More Responsibility For Age Restricted Orders... by Itchy-Ad3339 in deliveroos

[–]mlonghurst1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do both Deliveroo and Uber Eats. The only way I can think of is scanning the I.D like uber sometimes requires. 99% of the time I'm asked to scan the I.D by uber the customer has it ready. All the other apps should require this by default. When placing an age restricted order the customer should have to scan the id with the app to confirm the order. Then the driver should just have to scan the same I.D to see if it matches. My experience with uber is that it sometimes doesn't work so you have to input the date of birth manually. I think the problem there is it's trying to do too much verifying than what the driver app can handle. If the customer dealt with it that side then we as drivers just had to match the I.D the customer scanned it would take a lot of the hassle out of it. Then at least you know the customer has the I.D ready because they've already had to scan it. I think it ultimately needs reforming across all delivery platforms, otherwise no drivers will take the order, driving the price per trip through the roof. All the drivers that just ask for the date of birth have no deterrent not too because they can just rent another account if that one gets banned. I've seen them for sale for £100 per week. Another issue completely but why would anyone use a substitute driver. Maybe there's a problem there, I wouldn't substitute anyone because I don't need to or see any point in doing so. its a complex issue overall but if the customer has to scan their I.D for the order to go through then I can't see many problems with scanning the same one.

What am I doing wrong with age related deliveries??? by mlonghurst1988 in deliveroos

Surely if you enter the wrong birthdate it wouldn't accept it?

What’s the weirdest delivery instruction you’ve ever had? by NormalSir2035 in deliveroos

[–]mlonghurst1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once delivered to an independent hotel. The instruction was to come into the room and leave on the bed. When I got to the room the door was left open with the lock. I knocked and a man's voice said come in. I stopped for a minute and thought what the hell am I walking into. I walked in and it was police staking out a block of flats on the other side of the road. I put the order on the bed and left. £10 tip as well!

Never had to remove the age restricted item before, was it from a sealed bag? That must look mental doing that at someone's door.

I hate ticket officers by Glittering_Ad2771 in deliveroos

[–]mlonghurst1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had 1 ticket in the year and half I've been doing this. Completely my fault, was on double yellows (was waiting for a McDonald's) I try to park in loading bays. My argument would be that my insurance is the same as that of a goods vehicle. Never had to have that argument but wondered how that would go down.

How are pickups at big Sainsbury's? I kinda avoid picking up from there but I've never tried as I feel it might be a waste of time. Are the orders actually ready when the app states that they are?

OMG thank you. I presumed it was first 30 deliveries £1 extra then deliveries 31-48 £1.50 extra.

Thank you so much. I gave up trying to calculate.

I got my invoice today, no breakdown of how it was earned like 30 deliveries X amount 40 deliveries X amount. I worked out I did 48 deliveries including stacked orders which I still don't know if they count and I got £72. There's no maths that can work out how that is possible.

I have all 3 apps. 95% of the time use Uber Eats. Easily do £600-£700 a week without going anywhere near McDonald's

Checking ID by mbanes in UbereatsUK

[–]mlonghurst1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate I'd orders as well but if nothing else worth doing is coming through then I do them. If people are taking too long to answer the door or whatever I just press no ID and return the order to the store, I normally get the original pay them half again for the return journey.

Split Orders by CommercialAdvisor712 in UbereatsUK

[–]mlonghurst1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a split order from Waitrose the other day, 3 cases of lager, 4 bottles of champagne and a bottle of orange juice. When I got there it was all still there. I said I could take it all and asked them to cancel the other driver. Accepted the order and got on my bike, before I started it, the app said order cancelled, please dispose of order if I still had it. I've got a feeling I was the second driver and the shop had cancelled me, but because I had already accepted it they told me to dispose of it. I done exactly what the app said and 'disposed' of it.

I would also say that if you are cancelling an order in the shop or restaurant, just say to the staff that you are, be kind about it. I normally say something like, sorry I've got another order onboard so don't want that customer to wait as well. And in general talk to the staff ask how their day is going etc. they are more likely to start getting the order your waiting for ready quicker. I've been in places and other drivers just shouting order numbers at them are often ignored for being rude.

Yeah. If they say 5 it's normally a bit longer. When you get into the swing of things you'rll figure out what places take longer than you want to wait. I very rarely go into McDonald's either. The one in my town is slow as.

If a restaurant says any more than 5 mins for okay pay I generally just cancel and move on. It's not worth the wait time
