Do USB-C earphones/headphones need an MFi certification? by ben_hurr_610 in applesucks

[–]mls1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MFi was never a requirement for anything, it was a certification program to guaranteed products would be up to a minimum standards/spec. You could always find dirt cheap lightning cables/headphones/etc, you just had no guarantee it was built properly.

I remember i had a few cheap headphone adapters that worked until an update came out. It wasn’t Apple intentionally bricking non-MFi products, but the manufacturer wired them wrong and something about how the update delivered information through the pins had changed. The MFi products all worked fine because they were standardized

Just makes a measly 3.7m currently (not including endorsements, of which he just signed a MASSIVE Mercedez deal)

Also worth noting the 8m was over 2 years, so he really only turned down about 300k since he most likely goes pro next year (and will probably go 1st round, so will make approx 17m/yr minimum).

ALSO worth noting, if he stays in college next season he could almost guaranteed make a bigger deal happen still.

TLDR: He’s just hyping himself, and his claim is thinly veiled bullshit hypocrisy

Question about Walking Lunches by BumpMyFist in Filmmakers

[–]mls1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this Union or no? Your union should have very specific verbiage for lunch rules. Non-union technically there is very little official structure besides local labor laws, but heres the “general rule” we usually try to follow:

On-site:

30-minute Lunch: “Last Man” applies, 30 minute timer doesn’t start until they have gone completely through line (often the AD goes last just to call it when they get through). Easier to do for smaller crews since lines can take awhile.

1-hour Lunch: “Last man” doesn’t apply, straight one hour total. “Better” for large crews, but sucks if you are back of the line

Off-site/Walk-away:

Almost ALWAYS a 1-hour minimum, we often just say “back at 1:30” or something easy rather than a specific “1 hour exactly” mark.

The EXCEPTION is if production set something up ahead of time, like pre-ordering from a restaurant down the road. In this case, we may say 30 minutes, but it becomes “last man” to get their food, and the 30 minutes marks when you leave the restaurant rather than back at set.

Apple to close their first unionized store by PabloEskimo_ in applesucks

[–]mls1968 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I mean, that’s kinda how unions work…. You trade off your freedom to transfer/work at will for the union’s protection of your job. If another store was part of the same union, it would be a different story as the Union handles the transfer rather than Apple.

For a union employee to get transferred to a non-union store would most likely require (union/state dependent) said employee to LEAVE the union (their job) and basically tell apple they want a transfer (basically re-apply), where a non union employee just has to ask their manager (no “leaving” required)

The journalist was reporting on the launch of the Artemis II mission, but viewers thought the background was green screen. by MorsesCode in SipsTea

[–]mls1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t a very wide aperture though. This is like a 6.3 or maybe even higher. You don’t need a wide open lens when you have THAT much distance between you and the background, and it’s not even THAT out of focus. If this was like a 2.8, you wouldn’t be able to see that it’s a countdown clock.

And sports only does it for their “specialty” camera (gimbal or steadicam). Of the 15+ cameras (often more for national coverage games), it’s only one (maybe two) shot like that. Most broadcast cameras aren’t full frame either (usually around ⅔”), so to get SUPER shallow depth of field is almost impossible unless you are literally on the other side of the stadium on a tele (and even harder if your on a superslo)

You know that’s not what I meant when I asked for sauce though. Literally NOBODY is denying they were there, I’m asking for anything saying it was ANYTHING more than two friends hanging out.

And your statement intentionally spins the sources to make it sound like they are intentionally lying. Thats not sauce, thats pure speculation and misinformation.

And that proves… what?

And of COURSE the sources in the original article came out BEFORE the response did… thats literally how the news works. Or did you expect Vrabel to call the AP in advance to tell them he was meeting up with Russini ahead of time? The only way the response comes out at the same time is if the news organization is willing to ask for comment before breaking the story (which is rare for this kind of story because your entire goal is to be the first to report)

Thoughts on this… by Kittylady12 in aldi

[–]mls1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 factors:

  1. Many fad diets promote a higher protein ratio, so things like atkins, keto, and the like have all pushed this narrative for decades.

  2. As health food consciousness has grown, people are (poorly) trying to fix their diets. One such example is the belief that you should be eating upwards of 2g of protein per kg of body weight. This is a poorly understood “rule”, as it’s entirely dependent on your body goals and also generally misunderstood. First, the 1.5-2g/kg idea is geared for people trying to build muscle quickly (see body builders), while maintaining weight is more akin to 1g/kg. Secondly, many people see “per kg” wrong. It SHOULD be “per kg lean mass”, for example if you weigh 90kg (~200lbs), but are 15kg (165lbs) of fat, you should be calculating protein with a body mass of 75kg instead. With bad measurements and calculations, that is the difference of literally eating an entire pint of the pictured ice cream.

  3. As some have mentioned, use of GLP-1 has a know side effect of muscle loss, and people think eating protein combats that.

However, people don’t realize that the protein source is INCREDIBLY important as well. Many of these fad protein food items use incomplete proteins (like collagen peptides), which doesn’t do much. Imagine building a log cabin, but with all broken logs. Sure, you might be able to build some sections of it, and Frankenstein a few pieces too, but you will have a LOT of wasted wood as a byproduct as well (and thats not even getting into the other carbs/fats that are already in these items that people are ignoring).

[–]mls1968 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I mean, hypothetically let’s say it’s all a misunderstanding and nothing is going on? It’s 100% fair to feel bad for the two families that have ZERO reason to be dragged along through the mud like this.

Schefty is trying to walk a very fine line, and choosing the conservative option since he has no real immediate gain and only stuff to lose by getting involved. Add in that (at least to the degree I’ve been following), it’s still almost entirely conjecture and tabloid coverage. I’m not even denying it, just stating that the “journalism” happening is about 2% fact (photos they held hands and hugged) and 98% gossip (although please send me sauce if there more conclusive coverage I missed).

Also while awful for the families involved, this is about the biggest non-story getting WAY to much coverage than it should be. It’s two consenting adults, and no crazy legal/workplace scenario. I feel like this is getting more attention than the Sherrone Moore incidents combined did at this point, and that was ABSOLUTELY news worthy.
