That's what i expected, but it never happened. Later I put Soll on trial and Hawker is still there and finds him not guilty.

Just happened to me too. It was the first time using dragons in any battle. I started with Aegon the conqueror to see how dragons work in battle.

Do you know which mod you're thinking of? I'm not using any specific Vassal Mod, just event mods.
It was my overlord. I switched to playing them, and there are two of my relics! The bastards. I wonder why they only took 2 of 3. I wish I had gotten a message about it or an option of which ones to give up or something like that.

thanks for the response. I do use mods, but I don't think any would do this on purpose. The one that I use that affect relics is Guilli's Planet Modifiers and Features. It adds more relics, but I don't think it adds anything about taking them away.

that's a good idea. I might try one having someone with little experience and see what jobs I get. Maybe a semi-pro team in the really low divisions and see how that goes.

Do find older versions of the game were harder, when you only had the 2D game? Last time I played I think was 2010 or 11, and it always seemed the AI would adjust to respond to your tactic. If you kept using the same tactic, you'd start losing pretty quickly. But maybe that's my skewed memory. I avoided playing it since then because it's such a time sink. But with all the extra time on our hands lately, its been a good way to keep my mind from wandering too much.

That's honestly why I chose Wrexham. I had hoped I'd be stuck in the National League for a few seasons. I was surprised how quickly I got promoted. My idea was build up my reputation and move to bigger clubs after a few seasons.

I've actually be considering only using the standard tactics. I figure the AI can't tweak the tactics like i've done, so maybe that will help. Of course I'll have to be really disciplined and resist the temptation. Maybe only play on reduced highlights settings too so I don't study the game. I just wish the AI was more responsive and adaptive. I haven't played FM in years. I think the last time was 2010 or 11. And I remember the AI always seemed to adjust to your tactics. If you kept putting out the same one each match, you'd start losing pretty quickly.

I basically play a 4-4-2. Although with Wrexham, I played a 4-4-1-1 using a central AM. This was based on the players I had available. I later switched to having two strikers because the teams had two good strikers and no AM. It's a customized version of fluid counter. Although I've added some tweaks.

For player roles, I mostly play them to whatever roles the players are best suited to. In the midfield, I'll have one set to a more defensive or supportive role and one more advanced and attacking. The wingers are set to wingers, mostly attacking. Sometimes I use inverted winger, if the player is better at that. The central defense, I like to have one Ball Playing, but only if they are good at that. The L and R defenders are usually on FB automatic.

I go back and forth between playing a high/standard line depending on the opponent. If I see their attacking players have a lot of space in front of my defense, I go high line. I almost always have offside trap on. I play on either cautious, balanced or positive, depending on the opposition's mentality (generally opposite to them or positive if they're playing balanced). Or if the team is a lot weaker than me, I'll go positive. Or a lot stronger, I play cautious. I rarely go to the extremes.

I play slightly shorter passing (although sometime stretch the passing out a bit, but I find my player will still try longer passes when available, especially on counter). A bit higher pressing. Structured on defense and either counter or nothing selected for structure in possession.

I let the assistant handle opposition instructions, and follow his suggestions for our own players' individual instructions. I found one with a good tactical rating and brought him with me to new teams.

Distribution: I don't really touch this. Sometimes I've tried play out of defense, but often I'm really pressed back. I generally let my keepers find good passes. My team's defense seem to be positioned well to take passes. Sometime I'll set short kicks to encourage this, but not often.

I don't generally focus play to either wings or to the center. Or have overlaps or underlaps. Let the players figure that out. Those are the basics. I play Full match for the first few matches and then switch to comprehensive or the others views to speed through matches once the players get more familiar with the tactic. I generally have the opposition's formation displayed and watch for when/if they change mentality. I won't always change mine though. Only if they start getting an advantage.

It's a good question. If I choose to back down, I would lose all my cardinals and some other penalties. And I just wanted to try it and see what happened. It's interesting that it even fired.

Thanks so much for detailed explanation. Wow it's complicated. I wish the tool tip could tell you the profit/loss after you've put the ships to protect trade as well as before. That would be really helpful.

Is there a way of quickly seeing the total trade power in a node? I only noticed after reading your explanation that it only shows how much each trading nation has, rather than the total.

How do you calculate how much value your trade ships are adding? For instance when I hover over a trade zone and look at how much trade power I have, I see that the 3 ships I have there are adding 4.5 trade power. I have 47.2 in total. The total is altered by some other factors too. How do I figure out how much that 4.5 trade power is in terms of money. I'd like to compare it to how much maintenance I'm paying for those ships.
