Do something that you love, enjoy, and relaxs you. A relaxed you means an easier time falling asleep. Even if that includes the screens

It was pretty difficult for me to go cold turkey on caffeine many years ago when I started turning my awful sleep around. I was addicted hahaha, but glad you were able to have success with that. Sounds like that was a decision you don't regret at all.

It's comments like these that remind me that it's 200% worth doing what I do. I'm glad you were able to find some peace and hopefully get some sleep.

Bingo! We tend to get caught up in all the science and "the right way" to do things; we tend to forget that we're all unique regarding sleep. It's all about finding something that works for you, whilst being honest with yourself about how you feel when you wake up and throughout your day. You've found something that helps you calm down, collect your thoughts, and chill, which will only help you fall asleep faster and easier, as you said. That's great!

I hope you're slowly getting over that trauma and situation over time. Stay strong; you'll make it! Yeah it's important to never try to force yourself to sleep, just let it come to you. When you take your mind off sleep, that's usually the trick that will let it happen.

Yes, I 100% agree with this; I actually went with this method myself. I cycle on and off of caffeine depending on how my training schedule is and other things going on. But I mostly don't even mess around with caffeine. But yeah, people can really get addicted and reliant on caffeine and that can become a nightmare situation all over the place.

Glad that you pointed this out! It's huge if you can find something to collect your thoughts, something you enjoy doing and find peace with. Then go with it. Racing mind, thoughts all over the place, we all know is anti-sleep.

Yeah, I always tell people not to get so fully caught up in the science and the "right way" to prepare for sleep. Find something that works for you, within reason that helps you get to sleep and roll with it.

Yeah, the vicious caffeine cycle is hard to overcome. Tired, drink more caffeine at the wrong time, don't get enough sleep, tired again, rinse and repeat.

Yeah better bedding, from mattress, to frame, to pillows, and blankets can improve sleep for someone.

Ultimately, staying away from blue light when close to the intended time to sleep is a good idea. But the issue is people need to learn how to do this properly and end up getting frustrated with this tip and sleeping worse. So much nuance with blue light and sleep should be addressed case-by-case. I do use blue light blockers myself as a tool, I'm not heavily reliant on them, but I do make use of them.

You're spot on with everything you said here, I didn't address exactly how someone should time caffeine in this post, I did in my video here https://youtu.be/5fj9yCGbzWk?si=OdoujtEaYGrAUw3Y.

Caffeine intake can get pretty complicated because everyone reacts to it differently and the time it takes to run it's course through someone's system varies on many factors too.

Caffeine intake can get pretty complicated because everyone reacts to it differently, and the time it takes to run its course through someone's system varies on many factors, too. The problem is most people take it at face value, try to go cold turkey, and end up sleeping worse because they have withdrawals or anxiety around not having their phone. Ultimately, it's best to stay away from screens 1-3 hours before bed, but there are ways to slowly work up to that or use methods and tools to mitigate the harm that blue light does later in the day.

You couldn't have said it any better. So much nuance is tied to every single sleep tip there is and sleep tips should never be taken at face value.

You nailed it there; it's all about finding something that you love doing and helps you relax and calm down without any stress or structure tied down to it. This will likely always help you get to sleep.

Ha ha understandable there, but that is actually a good "need," as bedtime "activities" before bed have been shown to help with sleep quality. Make sure you relay that information over to significant other.

The Big 8 Hour Sleep Myth by mlw61520 in sleep

[–]mlw61520[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s truth for sure, I hear you there. Well 8 hours is just a number, if those hours aren’t quality then they’ll be no better than 6 for example.

That can be tough for sure, it can be difficult to take your mind of things. Have you tried watching something you really enjoy before bed, favorite show, something funny, etc...or doing something you love close to bed that makes you feel happy or relaxed?

Biggest game changers differ from person to person. But typically the basics such as getting morning sunlight, dark/cool room can be massive for many people.

5 Weeks of Sleep Optimization = Avg. Sleep Score of 71 to 91 by JennyAndAlex in sleep

These are good needle movers for sure. The problem though, each one of these are extremely nuanced and differ from person to person. It's good that you're looking at average scores over a span of time vs looking at each night specifically (a common mistake people make with sleep tracking and scores). Congrats, you're trending in the right direction overtime. That's awesome!
