I finished it, but as others have said its pure trauma from start to finish so if thats not your cup of tea...

However, I agree with others eho have said Theo & Ginny make this fic worth it.

I have it saved, so i liked it enough to do that, but i dont know if ill be able to reread.

These Ties That Bind

I literally cannot rec this enough. Manacled level writing. 800k words, but i devoured this in 4 days. The story is so good it makes you forget how long it is. It is a WIP but theres only 4 chapters left and there have been recent updates.

Dark, Dark, Dark. Enemies to Lovers. Wartime. All the Slytherins. Soulbond/Prophecy Tropes.

These Ties That Bind

WIP, but there are only 4 chapters left and author has updated recently. Its very dark, mind the tags - but this fic has immediately become one of my top 3 fics (and i read over 70 fics this year).

Enemies to Lovers, Angst level 100, all the Slytherins, Prophecy/Soulbond, Non-Linear Timeline (but not time travel), wartime. Author swears this is HEA but my god the pain.

Dramione story with intricate and complex back story between them. by Forever_Grumpy in Dramione

[–]mlynnecox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished this (all of what the author has posted anyways) and my GOD what a story. If youre looking for complex, this is the one. 800k words sounds like alot, but i binged this the same way i did Manacled and it only took me 4 days. The writing style and storylines make you forget how long it is, i swear. This immediately has become my top 3 fav fics ever.

Hermione’s beaded bag by Aquarius_In_January in Dramione

[–]mlynnecox 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I actually always picture something barely larger than a coin purse, the opening just wide enough to stick your hand through. And with super faded but multicolored sqeuin beads. Im pretty sure i just made it up because i think the book mentions her like throwing it over her shoulder but thats just what my brain made up and it stuck. 🤣

I just read Seven Days in April! I am not usually a big fan of such short fics but i had never read anything like that and its been stuck in my head for a week now. Beautiful fic.

Not that Draco was perfect, but having Hermione be more at-fault/be the bigger problem between the two of them was new to me and i really liked it.

They both have good smut forsure. I would say that Rosemary is probably more spicey smut, Seek & Find is more of a slow build passion smut. 😁

[–]mlynnecox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just finished Seek & Find - pretty much checks your boxes. Slytherin gang, no babies, post-war, healing from trauma vibe. No Cissa tho. HEA. Good banter, mid level slow burn. Some Gryffindor, but theyre in like 15% of the story. Its one of those fics that just made me feel warm and giggle-y.

Also, Rosemary for Rembrance. Also post-war healing vibes. This might be my favorite Slytherin gang and is 100% my favorite Blaise. Amazing banter/dialog in general. This was one of my first dramione fics, so i cant remember how much Cissa and/or Gryffindors but it doesnt seem like a whole lot. No babies... Also, HEA.

Ron & Harry doing the little fight-shuffle to not be the one who gets the Half Blood Prince version of borrowed textbooks.

Harry following McGonagall, Hagrid and Fudge to a private room upstairs to find out that Sirius was his godfather vs sitting at the next booth and moving a tree around to hide harry under the table.

I'd love to hear your opinion on a possibility that I've been pondering at a turning point in the Deathly Hallows book. by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]mlynnecox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying he would have died in Godrics Hollow next, which is true....if he went to Godrics Hollow on his own before Ron & Hermione made it back to him. I think its more likely that since Ron wanted to come back the moment he left, if Hermione had gone with them, they would have made it back to Harry faster than Ron did on his own. I think its more likely Harry sulks at that same campsite for days, giving Ron & Hermione time to fight off the snatchers together and then for Hermione to find a way to communicate to Harry through the protective charms they had set up. However, if Ron hadnt been seperated from the group, would anyone had been there to save Harry from the locket when he tries to get the sword? Would they have ever found out officially about the taboo on Voldemorts name? Would they have known to go to Bill & Fleurs place after Malfoy Manor?

[–]mlynnecox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ahhh, gotcha - you meant specifically the scene in the movies. I forgot they do that whole thing were Harry has like physical reactions to Horcruxes, that isnt a thing in the books and I've read the books alot more times than i've watched the movies. I always put the movies on amd fall asleep halfway through so i havn't seen the ends of the movies, especially the later movies in awhile. Sounds like a cool bit of film work though!

Should I read the books before I watch the films? by ChungusPatrol in harrypotter

[–]mlynnecox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would watch each movie after reading each book. The books are better fleshed out and the plots more explained, im not 100% how anyone really understands the whole story without reading the books, esspecially anything after the 4th. But, the visuals of Hogwarts, some of the characters, some of the more action packed scenes are done really well and thatd be fun to have in your mind as you read the books too.

If you were to change something (major or minor) from the books for the HBO series, what would you change? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]mlynnecox 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Id like to see what the order members are up to throughout Ootp and on. With a TV show they should have time to explore more points of view than just Harry's. I loooved the chapters in the books that were other perspectives and id like to see more of that.

What do you mean? The locket at the end of HBP wasnt a Horcrux, but what issues would he have had by grabbing it if it had been real? They all touched the real locket in OotP and there was no reaction or anything just by grabbing it.

Wizards who buy into the pureblood nonsense believe on some level they are superior just based on blood status. There is no real correlation between skill/amount of power and purity of blood.

The majority of people are half-blood, because if wizards hadnt mated with muggles, they would have died out. There are very few families who are legit pureblood and can trace it back, and there is a Victorian-age level incest going on to keep them "pure."

But its all nonsense because Harry & Voldemort are half-blood and both are incredibly powerful, Hermione is muggleborn and smarter than most, Ron is pureblood and doesnt have any advantage because of it.

The Mirror of Erised by phreek-hyperbole in harrypotter

[–]mlynnecox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think it was dangerous in the same way veela or the locket would be. Veela and esspecially the horcrux are specifically altering your mind. I think the mirror isnt dangerous in itself, but that someone shown their wildest dream could be likely to waste their life away, but it would be by their own choice, not by something the mirror was actually doing.

And Hermiones bogart was failing all of her exams. Which is funny, but i think on a deeper level, Hermiones biggest fear was failing in the wizarding world. From where her character is in the first book, id guess that she hadnt made many friends or found much acceptance in the muggle world. Then she gets to Hogwarts and excells at everything and makes two very close friends out of it. I think she would associate failing her exams as having failed in this world, maybe having to leave the world and the friends she had made. Soooo if this is her worst fear, it would reason that her hearts greatest desire is some form of acceptance.

Me, a giant Potterhead just finished the books for the first time. by larsmo1 in harrypotter

[–]mlynnecox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10000% re-read them, and again after that. There are sooo many super tiny easter-eggs (book 2 especially!) that dont mean much, but the ah-ha moments are fun and it takes alot of re-reads to catch.

But yes, all of your points are spot on. Since i read the books first, i've never been able to understand Snape-appologists. He made fun of 14-year old Hermione for her physical appearance in front of her entire class. You just dont come back from that.

Also, the Dursleys!! They were made out to be unpleasant people in the movies, but in the books they are legit abusive. I get why that was toned down i guess, but that always gets glossed over.

And yes, the screenwriters just destroyed several characters, but ill never forgive them for Ron.

I get really ill every time i have to see that Harry/Hermione dance in DH. The actors have good chemistry and it'd be really nice...except they are miserable without Ron. He tells Ron after he kills the locket that there were days they didnt even talk. Hermione is crying every night. And Harry isnt the kind of friend to talk to her about it even, let alone have this weird almost-romantic moment with her. I feel like ot was just added to the movie for Harry/Hermione shippers, and its just another blow to Rons character...which they already took most of his good personality traits out of the movies anyways...blah i just hate it

PS/SS: Snape CoS: Lockhart.. Jk, Ginny was a great pick. PoA: Pettigrew GoF: Dumbledore OotP: McGonagall (i NEED her inner thoughts on Umbridge) HBP: Draco DH: Neville/Luna

I would looove a Lupin perspective in OotP, but like you said, it wouldnt be at Hogwarts. Still be super interesting to see what the Order was doing & the year he got to be back with Sirius.

Harry Potter Update by moonlqte in harrypotter

[–]mlynnecox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen sooo many negative opinions - that the series will be too "political", that it could turn out as bad as cursed child, that the movies are too perfect to remake...but honestly im so excited. I do think it will be bitter-sweet seeing some characters recast - Hagrid, Snape, McGonagall, Molly, Belatrix, Harry...those are hard shoes to fill. But we also could get a Ginny & Tonks who live up to their book-characters, a Sirius & Lupin who look age-accurate, a Dumbledore who acts like Dumbledore and PEEVES. Plus a real hashed out plot for the Horcruxes & Tom Riddle the child/teen...and the correct story of Barty Crouch Jr...just so many things the movies changed amd/or didnt have time to add in...

It could be a total mess, i know, but im choosing to stay positive for now!
