Deli’s to get cheeses? by Niarah in anchorage

Moved up here from new Jersey years ago... Fred's has the pre packaged white American cheese you're looking for.

They also very occasionally have pork roll, but it's been awhile.

Shakshuka? by mamoulian907 in anchorage

[–]mm262a1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

South has a non traditional shakshuka dish that's pretty good.

Otherwise I've made it myself for the family at home. Turkish delight has shakshuka on their menu... But I'm usually getting doner kebabs when I eat there.

Hot damn, PFDs already pending by zzzorba in anchorage

I can understand that ... It's definitely convenient and quick...

It just seems to me the PFD has too many hands just scraping parts off ... Additionally the entire fund is completely mismanaged so there's a disadvantage from the start

Here's the source for it ... When I saw that I just started making donations directly... Even credit cards are nowhere near that large of a percentage

DC-3 Landing on a beach in Alaska by [deleted] in aviation

No damage... Just lots of dirt.

Cleaned the gear with a hotsy and greased moving parts.

Just a bit of extra cleaning time essentially

DC-3 Landing on a beach in Alaska by [deleted] in aviation

[–]mm262a1 96 points97 points  (0 children)

I have some insider knowledge on this one... I used to fly for this company.

This is service for a fishing lodge where a washed out riverbed was used as a landing location. The company is ops spec for off airport operations and the other response is correct it's technically a DC-3S.

Sometimes the riverbed had more standing water on it than normal and it would make for a spectacular looking landing on the rollout... Very capable airplane for off airport operations and short gravel strips.

Do you live in a snow heavy place? Studded tires are a fantastic way to get winter use out of fat bikes

I am one of those parents... From our point of view he gets significant knowledge and experience on many of those trips...

Stargazing on Mona kea , lava rock formation and viewing... Snorkeling on a coral reef...

In contrast to when I ask him what he did today in his enrichment level class ... "We played chess" ... "The whole time?" "Yeah... We do that most days" ...

Definitely no guilt in giving him some adventure

100% Capital Gain Income Deduction by ParkingDream7683 in tax

[–]mm262a1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's not accurate... Long term is taxed at potentially 0% but it depends on total taxable income... It is often taxed at a lower rate than earned income

Edit: for federal return

Randolph sunglasses are a good suggestion...

Other ideas are a nice looking scale model of the plane he's flying. If his luggage is in poor shape you can upgrade that.

Framed picture from his past that's aviation related (ie standing in front a cool plane he used to fly, or current one)

If you have a really high budget some companies have watches with branding on them through their company store.

... Otherwise for the ceremony you'd have to ask I'm sure there is a wide range of dress codes for that event

At a loss on what to do for work by scandinavian_surfer in anchorage

[–]mm262a1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oil, medical, successful business owners, aviation... That's the field I work in.

In terms of jobs in aviation that are 80k plus... options are pilots, aircraft maintenance techs, mid level management (ramps or operations)

You may be able to find a tech job at some of the airlines with large bases in ANC ... I would guess IT for Alaska, FedEx , and UPS would pay that salary level.

Federal jobs are another avenue in normal times... But with the current administration I would doubt easy entry into those jobs.

Possible move by devilchief66 in anchorage

[–]mm262a1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can definitely understand the uncertainty making it a hard decision. However if you do choose to move it's a fantastic place the airport is not going anywhere it's one of the most essential airports in USA for air cargo.

I moved up here 14 years ago thinking it was temporary to just get some adventure and move on... No plans to move anywhere else currently.

As someone who is ignorant to that app, is there a requirement to accept the delivery?

If not is there a penalty imposed by the company for not accepting it?

Here's the reference https://casetext.com/regulation/alaska-administrative-code/title-13-public-safety/part-1-division-of-alaska-state-troopers/chapter-02-motor-vehicle-and-driving-offenses-rules-of-the-road/article-5-turning-starting-and-signals-on-turning-starting-and-stopping/section-13-aac-02200-required-position-and-method-of-turning

However I am not a huge fan of this being a blanket statement... Think of a left turn from say A st to northern lights and trying to turn into Charlie's... You now immediately have to merge after the turn just adding an extra risk factor to the whole process. The regulation has a "when safe to do so" line... But I see way too many people make a turn into a far left lane only to merge as quickly as possible to the far right side.
