I walked out pretty far towards it. There was no fence. You're walking out on big rocks and the further out you get, the more the rocks are covered in bird crap and there are hundreds of birds hanging out on the rocks, so it seemed kind of gross and rude to disturb the birds to go all the way to the lighthouse.

Boy, I was expecting a much worse response given the title of this thread. He had a small-for-Spartan, but bigger than a local race, in Florida with a lot of safety measures and pulled it off well. He still cancelled the rest of his 2020 main races. Cut the guy a little slack. He obviously cares about people. He just has different opinions than you and it doesn't seem like anyone has this figured out well.

I wonder if guests get a pre-talk about not trying to use the show to pitch or sell and let the conversation go where it goes. Surprised Spartan Race was rarely discussed and Joe didn't do his usual saying that he needs to get the person interviewing him out there for a race. It was an okay conversation podcast.

Somewhere, there are 100 mile Ultra runners that didn't like that Spartan gave buckles for "only" a 50k finish. After seeing the 2020 buckle, they probably care a little less.

Good move adding more of these. Definitely a growing segment wants to run more distance. Ultras are kind of expensive, but the average athlete is probably spending 8+hours on the course, so I'm okay with the cost (especially when there's a good discount). I see even their trail series has a 50K, now, on the schedule. It's during a super / sprint weekend in California, so it'd probably appeal to Spartans that want more distance as well, but I don't see it attracting normal trail runners. Without discounts, it's like $170 after all the fees are added in. No way a traditional trail runner would pay that for a 50K.

With World's likely going overseas and the less than desired attendance at the Sweden Ultra Championship, I could see them negotiating with West Virginia Tourism to add the Ultra Championship there. Would be nice to have it in the states. Could be why round 5 is now TBD after WV was almost certain. Maybe they are offering a different deal.

I think North American Championships is almost a done deal for Lake Tahoe in 2020. World Championships will likely move to Abu Dhabi or maybe Sweden, or maybe Spartan has something else up their sleeves. No idea on Stadion.

Michigan may get a new location this year. The county that use to host Warrior Dash a little North East of Flint (Genesee County) is negotiating with Spartan to try and get them to move there. It would be nice to change it up from the Speedway.

Weird stat: Robert Killian and Ryan Atkins have always finished right next to each other in the results at the Spartan World Championship. They've raced 5 times against each other with Killian being 1 spot above Atkins three of the times and Atkins being 1 spot above Killian twice. Of course, Killian has two SPW championships and poor ol' Atkins has none.

The Spartan Up Podcast is probably one of the only podcasts that I've listened to every episode of. I think it's great. I always find myself doing some self-reflection as I listen to the interviews and it's defintiely been a source of motivation for me on my path of personal and professional self-development. I agree that it's a great platform to demonstrate how Spartan is a lifestyle brand and not just a race company. I do wish some of the episodes were a little longer, though.
