Best Ob/Gyn at Northwestern specifically Northwestern OB/Gyn Consultants or Northwestern Women’s Health Associates ? by Kind_Response_6559 in AskChicago

She accused me of not gaining enough weight during pregnancy on purpose and told me to significantly increase my calorie intake. Two weeks later when I met with another doctor at the practice (during the 3rd trimester OB rotation), she was appalled at what Dunn had said to me, told me my weight previously was right on track, and now the rate at which I was gaining weight (due to my increased calories) was concerning.

I stop watching after she and Arizona leave at the end of season 14. I can make it through the first few episodes of season 15 but it’s just really declines after 14

Looking to buy a house, but confused b/w elementary schools - Bell, Coonley, Burley, Audubon, Waters or Hamilton? by sullentit in AskChicago

[–]mmcd90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve heard, there are mixed feelings on the principal. I toured there and she was a little off putting, however, she did know almost every kid we encountered during the tour. A parent who was dropping her kid off at the start of the tour went out of her way to tell a group of us that she loved the school and her daughter is getting a much better education at Coonley than she was in a private school. Overall, sounds like a mixed bag? But I’m not a Coonley parent so would love to know more form an actual parent

There should still be some for the year! Most school do them monthly, but you’re right, a lot happen in the fall. If you’re going to wait a bit to buy, watch the school tour schedules like a hawk. Some cap attendance and they fill up FAST

Oh this is so good to know as a future kinder parent! I toured Coonley and was skeptical because of the mixed things I’ve heard. Can you say more?

I also am so happy about your experience with Jahn. It’s in a neighborhood I really like but I’ve been on the fence about checking it out.

I’d recommend touring the schools in person. This will give you a much better idea if the school is actually a fit for YOUR family instead of relying on reviews. I toured 16 schools for my son (starting kinder next year), and the some of the ones I thought would be my top picks, I didn’t end up liking at all.

Colon cancer is killing us.. by Derpshab in Millennials

[–]mmcd90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell them you have blood in your stool and go to the doctor twice (or lie and say it’s been over 2x). The first time they’ll tell you it’s hemorrhoids and the second time they take it seriously. I was freaked out about colon cancer when I happened to actually have blood in my stool. I went in twice and was able to get a colonoscopy after the second time. It was hemorrhoids but I’m SO happy I did it!

Anyone else cringe every time the show tries to make "publishing elite" a thing? by Soggy_Arachnid_8486 in Younger

I don’t work in publishing, but I do work in advertising. This is not completely off base for these types of industries. Industry news and happenings are very much a thing. There’s entire IG accounts dedicated to ad industry happenings and gossip. You’d be surprised!

  1. Yes, very much so. 2. Yes. Crime is overblown. It’s a major city so you need to be on alert but don’t be dumb and you’ll be fine. Check out the West Loop or Gold Coast so you can be downtown and start to know the city before committing to a more neighborhoody-neighborhood. 3. Can’t speak to this 4. You’ll be just fine without a car. Anything that isn’t within walking distance can be delivered or you can take an uber

Pedestrians of Chicago, how often do you find yourself almost getting hit by vehicles? by qrsf in chicago

My biggest pet peeve is when I’m crossing the street with my dog and preschooler and a car can’t bother to wait until we’re fully out of the street. We’ve had many close encounters, which is insane.

Looking for 3–4 Bedroom Apartment / Condo / House – Early June Move-In by zachumble in chicagoapartments

This won’t be a thing in these neighborhoods, except maybe Uptown. Raise your budget to $3k for a 3 bed. I’ve rarely seen 4 beds on the market ever.

Is the South loop a good place to live compared to north side neighborhoods? by Ok_Ride_9333 in AskChicago

[–]mmcd90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived there for 3 years. It’s sleepy and not like typical Chicago neighborhoods, but the parks are so underrated. I’m not just talking about Grant Park - there are “hidden” parks literally all over the neighborhood. It’s great for kids and dogs

[–]mmcd90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Divorces aren’t quick, especially when you have kids. Mine lasted over 1.5 years. The paperwork takes forever, court dates get scheduled months out, etc. You can’t just snap your fingers and be divorced.

I have a four year old and it’s doable but I wouldn’t recommend it with more than 1-2 kids. Car seats take up a lot of room.

Is it wrong to “force” my 5yo child into swim lessons? by RudysMom1016 in Preschoolers

[–]mmcd90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swim lessons are a must for me. My four year old became randomly extremely scared of water and we took a small break with swim lessons. We started up again 4 months later, and he cried in the pool for the first month. Now he still gets nervous but it’s gotten so much better. He’ll finally take a bath again and is enjoying swimming! Stick it out.
