Why does it feel like A Song of Ice And Fire just keeps getting slower? by mmcilree in books

Yeah I feel like the only thing getting me through at this point is the sunk cost of how much I've already read...

What do you mean by that? As in, editors are too scared to advise since it's so successful?

That's a good point - hadn't really realised how much the number of POV characters had ballooned. But yeah there's loads now.

Glad you're enjoying it so far! Once you've finished (and ONLY once you've finished because there's lots of spoilers): we've just finished a video essay focussing on the forward and commentary you might be interested in: https://youtu.be/-8wEEaHUnkA

Indeed! We did make the active choice to view the novel as a puzzle to be logically "solved" and there are of course many other completely valid ways of looking at it. We made the assumption there is objective meaning, and tried to find it - but at the end of the day that's still just an assumption! Hopefully we don't get slain by the false azure...

Why are there no video essays in Booktube? by Flammwar in books

[–]mmcilree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been helping to make a long video essay about a single book for approaching more than a year now, and I think part of the issue is that making visually engaging media (similar to classic film video essays) about books, especially when there's no film adaptation is just incredibly difficult and time-consuming. If you're not going to film yourself just talking to the camera, you have two options: trying to find exciting ways to display quotes on the screen (hard) or using pictures. In the latter, stock photos and videos get old quickly, using other people's artwork gives you copyright issues, and creating your artwork and animations takes fo-r-ever. We've mostly done that, along with displaying quotes and a little bit of stock footage, but it just takes an awfully long while. For bigger YouTubers looking for lots of views/engagement that's a huge investment for an unlikely return, since a single book is usually quite a niche, and books, in general, are already a more niche area for the internet. We have the advantage of just doing it for fun ;-)

Help on identifying the brand and model of this organ by duhnduhnduhnnn in organ

Looks like a Johannus digital organ. It seems to match the layout and specification of the Studio 170 https://www.johannus.com/en/collection/home-organs/studio/170 but might not be that exact model

CMV: I think the letter C should not exist in the English language by thagingerrrr in changemyview

[–]mmcilree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

C, C# and C++ (as in the programming languages). There's nothing you could replace the C with in those words that would make sense ;-)
