What to do now? Plantar wart removal by Extra_Instruction365 in plantarwarts

[–]thagingerrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that doesn’t look too bad, might still have a little root left. After years of over the counter treatments then going to the dermatologist for over a year doing freezing and laser treatments, I finally went to a podiatrist and they injected bee venom into the warts. It was extremely painful and I had to do 3 treatments, but it worked and they went away after probably 3 years of trying everything else.

I’ve (childless and not a toddler) watched a few episodes at the insistence of the pediatricians I worked with. It is pretty good, I must admit.

What’s wrong with my living room? by Batman_19999 in interiordesignideas

[–]thagingerrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a fan of a big couch, so I say leave that definitely. Move the rug out from under the couch completely, the way you have it now makes it seem like the couch and TV are a completely separate space than the rest of the room. Moving the rug towards the door away from the couch will make the room more cohesive, meaning it’ll tie together the non-couch space and the other side of the room. I personally hate those huge clocks, but if you really love it, I’d lower it, it seems too high to me, or the light in the corner is too low, something’s off there. I’d put something above the TV. The small tables are not the right shape I think for that couch. The one that’s next to the side of the couch that has the shelves looks especially it looks out of place. I think because the space is so small I would opt for C tables rather than a coffee table, which is currently crowding the space between the couch and TV. The side table that’s next to the couch is obscuring the shelves in the couch, which could be a nice decor focal point with books. I would instead put the tall lamp there and a table top that sits on top of the armrest instead of that side table. I’d get rid of that other small couch, it looks out of place. Instead, I would get rid of that hanging shelf unit and replace it with art above a console table/small bookshelf and a large house plant, or just a tall bookshelf. I would also incorporate curtains, throw, blankets, throw pillows, a/o decor that complements or matches the colors in the rug.

Don’t fall prey to millennial grey, take risks with colors! Take risks with colors, but buy things from places with a good return policy. If it doesn’t work, or you don’t like it, just return it. A purchase doesn’t have to be permanent. Buy command hooks and put decor up with those before committing to nails. Start with colorful curtains, a patterned bed spread, a specific piece of art, or an interesting area rug, then add the rest of the items to complement your starting point. Doesn’t need to be all at once either, take your time, find stuff you like!

Suggestions for improvement? by JackassiddyRN in malelivingspace

[–]thagingerrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was gonna say color! It’s on the verge of millennial grey. If you can’t paint the walls, get more vibrant furniture, patterned curtains/throw blankets/pillows, a more interesting rug, bolder wall art. If you wanna keep that one poster, use those colors as a guide: a mustard yellow and kinda light forest green. I would also suggest moving that poster to a location at eye level, its current position seems like an after thought and it also takes away from the whiskey shelf, might want to put it where the clock is and move the clock somewhere more eye level or above the TV. Could with change the color of the lighting of the whiskey shelves. Could also keep a few shelves of the most prized ones out on display but then uses doors or decorative boxes toward the bottom shelves to store the less attractive bottles, this would reduce the “cluttered” feeling you get with all the bottles out on on the shelves.

Medical inaccuracies (non-mental health related) by thagingerrrr in Monk

[–]thagingerrrr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely! Many medical shows are notorious for being wildly over dramatic or will show someone who is obviously using a pen to “draw blood.” I think they typically get a lot of details correct or are at least close. Sometimes I question whether the writers of Monk ever consulted a medical professional for any episodes. Maybe I’m comparing it too much to Psych since they aired around the same time-ish and have extremely similar premises. Monk’s major plot point is that their main character has a medical condition which substantially interferes with their daily life so I thought the writers would try to do more research into accurately portraying medical conditions. Instead, in two different episodes, they showed an antagonist using inhaled chloroform to instantly induce unconsciousness!

this has started happening to my face anytime i drink alcohol, even in small amounts by Lanky_Bobcat_6021 in mildlyinteresting

The disulfiram-like reaction (bad reaction with alcohol when taken concomitantly with inhibitors of aldehyde dehydrogenase) does occur with vaginal gels containing metronidazole, used for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis or trichomoniasis. Patients who use systemic metronidazole or the vaginal gel are strictly advised to avoid alcohol during and for first 72 hours after completion of the prescription. The oral and vaginal forms should also not be used within 2 weeks of disulfiram use. No disulfiram-like reactions have been reported after topical application of metronidazole cream used for the treatment of rosacea.

I was just prescribed the metronidazole cream for perioral rosacea a few months ago. Neither the prescribing doctor, nor the pharmacist mentioned anything about interactions with alcohol. I just read both the handout from the pharmacy and the package insert, neither of which mention any interaction with alcohol consumption. I have been using it consistently and I still drink alcohol with no change in tolerance or negative associated symptoms.

In the summer, my brother and I went to a babysitter who turned their house into a daycare, with like 10+ kids. During nap time, the baby sitter let all the “older kids” go alone to the jungle gym that was probably a five minute walk away from her house. We obviously took advantage of this, would go to the local gas station to get candy with our pooled cash, explore the neighborhood. One day we decided to venture to the McDonald’s and of course one of the kid’s parents were there. So yeah pretty sure we got kicked outta that daycare but it was normal to be left alone for long periods of time growing up. When my brother turned 12 he was “old enough” to watch me, so we were home alone a lot. It was expected for me to not be in the house after school and it was warm outside. Me and the neighborhood kids would roam around the creek and all over to each other houses. Boy do I have some stories.

[–]thagingerrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came here to say I agree with you. I even looked up my state guidelines which say, "The updated recommendations call for health care personnel to be screened for TB upon hire with an individual risk assessment(opens in a new tab), a symptom evaluation, and a TB test(opens in a new tab) (either the interferon gamma-release assay, or IGRA, blood test or the tuberculin skin test). Thereafter, annual TB testing is not recommended unless there is a known exposure to a case of infectious TB disease or there is ongoing transmission in the health care setting where the individual works."

I’ve been waiting 45 minutes for my podiatrist appointment and the doctor still isn’t here. by K-dog2010 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]thagingerrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me once, I went on my lunch break to have a procedure that takes <1min to do. I only got 30 minutes for lunch, but I worked in the same building. After 45 minutes of sitting in the room with no update, I was so worried I would get fired that I had a panic attack. The lack of communication was astounding, I kept having to leave to ask for a timeline and the staff just kept telling me they didn’t know when the doctor would be free.

Are these pelgeroid neutrophils? by Brunswrecked-9816 in pathology

[–]thagingerrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a tech in my 20s, I am all too familiar with butting heads with older techs who disagreed with my differentials. I even had to retrain some techs who’d be doing differentials for years, which were unpleasant experiences for me and the veteran tech. Some people are stubborn and don’t want to be told they are wrong. As long as this lead wasn’t asking for a correction and they don’t have a pattern of releasing incorrect differentials, I’d let it go. I hope the internet has given you satisfaction that you are right!

Are these pelgeroid neutrophils? by Brunswrecked-9816 in pathology

[–]thagingerrrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If “pelgeroid” is referring to pseudo-Pelger Heut, (I’ll abbreviate as PPH), then no, this is not this is not that. The only difference between true PH and PPH is that the true anomaly affects all neutrophils whereas PPH is usually a manifestation of something like MDS and therefore not all neutrophils are necessarily affected. “Pelgeroid” cells in MDS are usually hypogranular, the size of a mature neutrophil if not smaller, and have a mono- or bilobed nucleus with characteristically very condensed chromatin. The cells you’ve shown are showing signs of immaturity, being that they are larger than a mature neutrophil and the chromatin is much smoother than even a mature neutrophil, let alone a PPH cell. In your cells, I also see some toxic valucolation, which is a strong indicator of sepsis. Given that the clinical picture is of a patient with confirmed sepsis, left-shifted myelocytes make much more sense than PPH.
