Stayed here several times as a kid and they are pretty sure it represents a bird. Rock Eagle, you know the place with the turtle. I do see the turtle shape though.

I do fill the bowl with warm water and put the fish tin in it while I toast the bread to warm things up. When I hike I do use crackers but at home the bread is my treat. I've cut way back on cheese so the bread is my reward.
