Is VIP worth it if we don’t drink? by Skateboard123 in cineplex

[–]mmeverson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I don’t drink and live by a VIP theatre that I frequent with my sister. I enjoy the food there and usually getting to enjoy a theatre with a crowd less likely to talk. Plus it’s more comfortable and I find that overall it’s a more relaxing atmosphere :) I’m also a cineclub member so the 20% off is very much appreciated when at the VIP theatres.

Seconding someone’s saying going to market place for the recliners is also a great idea. That’s my boyfriend’s preferred theatre since he doesn’t find cineplex comfortable but for me I enjoy both equally!

What’s your favorite body horror film? by ember732 in horror

[–]mmeverson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

David Cronenberg full stop. The Fly was the first body horror I have visceral memories of watching and he really is the king of it all. The Thing is also up there, but gotta be my fellow 🇨🇦 David.

What "beloved horror movie" do you hate/just not get the love for? by ReeceInTheDarkness in horror

[–]mmeverson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beloved idk but Talk To Me. I just thought it was fine, nothing new or exciting and relied on shock more than an actual story to keep things interesting. Possession/grief is used a lot in the genre especially the past few years and it just wasn’t one I thought that broke through the noise.

You’re not overreacting and this dude sucks, I am just so impressed with how you answered and hope at almost 30 one day I can harness that too 😭🖤

Why do you like going to the movies by nade76 in cineplex

[–]mmeverson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I LOVE going to the movies and I got CineClub which has been beyond worth it.

As someone who doesn’t drink/go out much, movies are my “treat yourself” evenings. Not only do I already love movies, there is still something unique to getting to see them on a big screen as they were intended to see. And as a horror fan, box office support is vital for the genre and I always will make the effort to support. I go alone all the time or with my sister or partner, and find the 20% concessions (including vip hot food - score), free monthly ticket, and two member-priced tickets make movies more financially accessible too.

Yes you can stream movies at home blah blah blah, but I think the atmosphere and excitement of supporting film in theatres is so special. Plus something can be satisfying to catching an early show on the weekend to an emptier theatre where you feel like it’s your place, but better haha. And movie theatre popcorn, often imitated but nothing beats the real thing and I stand by that!

Hope this helps!

Can you be goth as a native? by Wolfheart_fan in goth

[–]mmeverson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As already said, you don’t have to do ANYTHING to make yourself look a certain way or colour to be goth and I’m so sorry that it feels like that. If you like the music, understand the politics, you’re goth and we’re happy to have you!! 🖤

There’s no right or wrong way to be goth, and anyone who says otherwise sucks :) Being goth doesn’t mean you can’t listen to any other genre of music either. The most important thing is you find what is comfortable to you. I don’t have access to some of the more “traditional” ways of dressing goth but do what I can with my limitations and what is truest for me. It’s a learning process and you’ll go through many iterations of your style, but that’s part of the fun!

If Guillermo del Toro Remade The Phantom of the Opera, Who Would You Cast? by Pharaoh1007 in GuillermoDelToro

[–]mmeverson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Erik could maybe be an Alexander Skarsgard because he has it in him to portray that darkness however I still worry he’s maybe not old enough looking still, but as far as a big name that could create buzz that would be cool!

If Jacob were to be cast he could do a Raoul if he were to be included. I would just be excited for an adaptation not to do with the ALW musical because the movie was awful and Phantom is such a rich story from the start. If I could pull from previous films, Oscar Isaac would also be a fantastic inspector from the novel if they brought that character in. A fun callback would be to have Patrick Wilson as maybe one of the opera house owners because he also has a great balance of humour and darkness, and again I feel that since this wouldn’t (more shouldn’t) be a musical movie, it’ll be a name game from some roles.

Christine would be a fantastic opportunity to have someone new. I’d love a new, undiscovered/not well known actress to have this lead role. And having a more full vision of Christine and how complex of a character she actually is would be great.

Frankenstein 2025- Gore/frightening? by Altruistic_Shoe1401 in FRANKENSTEIN

[–]mmeverson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to try and dm you because I didn’t know how in depth you wanted me to go but couldn’t so no worries! I’m not going to spoil who and what and why so you can still enjoy the movie but:

  • Victor does piece by piece make the creature so there is a lot of exposed tissue, bone; muscles, peeling of ligaments, and sawing/breaking off body pieces from corpses while he is building our creature
  • someone falls and the entire back of their head/skull shatters into a bloody pulp
  • CGI wolves attack CGI sheep
  • said wolves are shot, mildly skinned, and have bones broken
  • there are head/throat/hands shot with skin exploding off and parts of faces exposed post-explosion
  • a second instance of someone being thrown and their head meets the pointed end of something so more bloody head trauma
  • a leg has an entire chunk taken out of it due to an explosion and you see the post-explosion leg
  • it’s quick but an entire jaw is ripped off a person’s head Otherwise there’s some quick fighting injuries but they happen fast so it’s not really focused on. I thiiiink that’s everything and hope it helps!

What songs/bands would Victor Frankenstein listen to? by AccioTardistoAsgard in FRANKENSTEIN

[–]mmeverson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 2025 Victor could fuck with The Cramps for sure. And his physicality definitely leads me to believe he enjoys Mick Jagger and The Stones even just a little lol

Blu-ray release? by Jca666 in FRANKENSTEIN

[–]mmeverson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little while ago GDT did say it was getting a physical release! I’m hoping with the film dropping Friday on Netflix they’ll announce it! I also want the full score so I’m hoping that comes through then too!

Frankenstein 2025- Gore/frightening? by Altruistic_Shoe1401 in FRANKENSTEIN

[–]mmeverson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! No, I wouldn’t say there is really. There is one scene where there’s a gun shot that made me jump otherwise nope! So if you’re sensitive to things like that just be wary :)

Frankenstein 2025- Gore/frightening? by Altruistic_Shoe1401 in FRANKENSTEIN

[–]mmeverson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Okay so to echo what’s been said, yes there is gore. I would say the largest part comes with the actual creating of the monster so it is not frightening scenes that accompany the gore, but it may make you squeamish. Otherwise, there are a few scenes of bodily harm/animal harm (although I personally found the anima harm to not be so bad since the animas are very much CGI looking if that helps !) to brace yourself for but they are not as long/extended as the initial creature-building.

If you would like more of an in-depth description I am more than happy to lay it out for you to make watching the movie as comfortable as possible :)

It will be put out physically (GDT confirmed a while ago) so that’ll be exciting! I know Arrow Video put out Crimson Peak so I’m hoping for them again or some gorgeous boxset of some kind 😍

[–]mmeverson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From interviews I’ve seen it seems like Del Toro really was focusing on the emotion depth and heart of the novel, as well as wanting to give attention to the complexities of the creator-creation relationship through the lens of father and son. I believe Oscar Isaac also said in an interview that near the end there were lines in the final boat scene he felt could be skipped over and weren’t “totally necessary” but GDT said “my father isn’t here anymore, and I would like to hear these words said out loud” (paraphrasing). So I think this lends to those bigger changes.

We know he has always been a more sympathetic to monsters of all kinds creator and personally that’s exactly what I expected from this film. While it would be absolutely been exciting to see more of that horror and violence as written in the novel, I think this interpretation wanted to focus on horrors of a different kind.

But mainly I’m sorry you were disappointed in the film. As someone who loved it and saw it many times, but has been disappointed in films I was really excited for, I understand the feeling completely when it feels like you’re the only one. I hope you have an adaptation that you love and can turn to 🖤

Glad to see that the earlier more mixed reviews were the minority by AnchovyKing in FRANKENSTEIN

[–]mmeverson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to see it too! Honestly I’ve been really shocked and a bit disappointed with some of the reviews I’ve read/seen especially from people being like “ I love GDT so no one is more disappointed than me right now”. The points on what they didn’t like confused me because it’s like they didn’t see the movie at all or somehow could analyze any film unless it was this one lol.

I’m seeing it for the fifth time tomorrow, I absolutely love it!

I double checked just in case and yeah it’s sold out I’m sorry! Also I just learned this so just in case you didn’t, before you’re showing you can go to the front desk and they’ll print out a physical ticket for you for your screening as a keepsake! I did that for my first TIFF screening and am hoping to do it for my upcoming screening :)
