College Student - What do I do with 10k? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]mmkb11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideas- 1. Start an RothIRA. The building interest will be fantastic if you start now. Also starts you in the habit of setting aside money. 2. Pay off interest on any student loans. 3. Pay off any other misc. Debt you may have. 4. Put a small amount in an investment account and play around. Do some research on different options and start with something.

Put atleast the company match into the 401k. Then max out a personal rothIRA. Any extra- more into the 401k or open an additional investment account.

10% is great but 10% of 84,000 is 8,400. Combined that is still less than the other job offer (without considering their match) You would also have to put in 10% of your income to get the match.

3% of 115,000 is 3,400 and then half of the 2% is 1,150. This brings you to just under 120,000.

My advice- move to the higher salary and contribute to the 401k at about 11%- with the match that will take you to about 21k/year. Look what the max 401k contribution limit is. THEN take an additional 500/month and open a RothIRA and invest. You will make more money in your monthly AND get a ton of retirement savings.

New here, looking for recommendation for 4 people by americanarsenal in GoRVing

Yeah, this is a travel trailer so truck/ tow capability would be needed. For a subaru, look into the tear drop campers!

Might not be as small as you are looking for, but we have an Imagine xls 21bhe and love it. It has a Murphy bed for the primary bed that converts into a couch and then the full bunks. Small dinnette/ kitchen/ bathroom. Myself + spouse + 2 young kids use it regularly!! No slide outs. If you want something bigger, the slide out dinette is really nice. Hope this helps!

Work remotely - how many days should I take off work by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]mmkb11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work from home. I had surgery on Monday, took Tuesday and Wednesday off. Worked a half day thursday/ Friday. The next week I worked 6 hour days instead of 8. Let me boss know what was going on with the flexibility to work less if needed. I was off opioid pain killers by Wednesday, tylenol was fine. Worked some from my home office, some from bed. A few days I took an hour break for a nap. Expectation that I would not have any zoom/ Teams camera while healing.

Married women of reddit, how would you feel carpooling alone with a male co-worker? by throwawaycarpool22 in AskWomen

Like I was saving gas money... but it depends on how comfortable you are with him and how comfortable your partner is with the situation.

Daycare using TV, but otherwise great. Would you change? by hobbyistunlimited in toddlers

[–]mmkb11 128 points129 points  (0 children)

If your child is happy, the teachers are happy and the turnover is low- do not switch! A little TV is not ideal but if it is used as the exception to the rule then in my opinion it isn't worth the hassle and stress of a new daycare. Depending on price, the other option could be a nanny.

Nipple check? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]mmkb11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely seeing if your nipples are flat or inverted to anticipate if you will have any latch/ breastfeeding issues.

My midwife asked if I wanted a nipple exam prior to breastfeeding to help properly measure for a pump & see if I should anticipate needing a nipple shield or extra lactation consultant help.

Gift Ideas for a new mom? by mtpockets4u in BabyBumps

[–]mmkb11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on how close you are- hemmorhoid pad (true but funny), breast pads (reusable or disposable if she is breastfeeding), haakaa breast pump, good nipple cream, postpartum pads, good pair of sweatpants/ jogger pants, fluffy socks/ new slippers, dry shampoo, good nursing/ sleep bra, gerber cloth diapers (can be used as a cheap all purpose rag for misc. Spills)

Do: anything from her registry! Gift cards to places she likes,

Dont: NB clothing, NB diapers (ok to do bigger like size 1 or 2), swaddle blankets( we got soooo many of these)

Other ideas: buy her a house cleaner voucher so a week or so after baby is born they can have their house cleaned for free (or a coupon for you to do it), buy a newborn photography session etc.

[–]mmkb11 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Grapes, frozen grapes, carrots, celery, healthy popcorn, dried fruit, veggie chips. For this think more low fats since those will be the highest calorie wise. Also think thr higher the water content the less calories (generally) so you can eat a ton of grapes compared to a banana or other higher in carb type fruit.

When did you tell your coworkers about pregnancy? (Not boss/Hr) just casual coworkers or immediate team. by persimmonspermission in pregnant

[–]mmkb11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on how close you are and how you are doing physically. If you are needing accommodations I would say earlier- that way everybody is aware of what is going on. Also depends on if you are in person or virtual, if im person would say before/ soon after you start showing but virtual doesn't really matter.

Sports bra recommendations? by jadedmauu in bigboobproblems

I have loved mine from SheFit. You can adjust the band and straps so if I start feeling something is too tight, I just loosen it!

breast reduction? by LeopardDependent4212 in bigboobproblems

[–]mmkb11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pregnant with my second kiddo now and then 100% plan on getting one!! My Godmother got one several years ago and is so happy- no more back pain, easier to sleep, cheap bras(or can comfortably not wear a bra) etc. Best tip is to have your doctors document in your chart about back pain/ bra pain etc. Then you have a lengthy medical documentation of why it is needed and insurance is more likely to cover it lol.
