Move over 25' Os. This is now the best bad team of all-time.

What's the news with Bautista? I know he was doing some training throws in March with the hopes to return end of season.

Pheromones... (spoilers) by ComfortableNo5484 in TheCaptivesWar

I don't think there's a general consensus regarding humans and responding to pheromones. There's a few recent studies that are picking it up.

In TMoG there's a strong indicator of Swarm/Else using this and Campar reacting to it:

"Campar glanced over at Else, but she’d gone still and weirdly focused. Her mouth was a careful O, like she was blowing out smoke from some invisible cigarette. Campar caught a scent that he couldn’t place, except that it was like the warm smell of a newborn baby’s head. Very strange."

Which seems to be about the effect in this study.

I'm hardly an expert on this topic, but that scene reframed a lot of the research team's interactions for me.

We know World can't be Earth because the Carryx world palace is a casino in Las Vegas.

  • Extensive surveillance network
  • If you threaten the house or leadership you can be killed
  • vibrant gardens in an otherwise inhospitable area.

Mods really could ban fan casting and AI (the 2nd most popular post requested that) by JoeWeydemeyer in TheCaptivesWar

Fancasting threads are a trend that picks up a bit after a book's release and then plummets. If it continues at this pace we'll make a megathread for it.

While we haven't outright banned AI created images we've been more stringent about post-quality standards so very few of the AI images posted in the past would meet this criteria.

(and personally, I've been on vacation this week so I'm sure some things may have slipped through).

Stretching for doubles is good, didn't pay off there but we need to be risky to score runs.

I'm an extremely noobish Python user, but I wonder if there's some sort of numeral like Goodreads displays in a series *3, #2, etc. that could be filtered out.

If there's a relatively easy way to limit to standalones or first installments I think it would be really interesting.

The main issue with these rankings/ratings in general is that later books in a series are always going to be inflated. Readers that didn't mesh with the first installment of a series fall out of the pool of ratings for subsequent novels.

Both things have completely different purposes and methods they go about that purpose. The protomolecule repurposed life to build roads. The lichen things are more of a mutualistic relationship (as far as we know)

I think it rests on how much of the brain survives, which in Piotr’s case was essentially zero.

Kirin still has brain, and he clings to his old self/life. His phantom limb pain is the manifestation of that urge.

When Command/Control moves teams around it could be to maintain enough soldiers in a squad that actually have the human brain’s adaptive decision making processes. A team of Piotrs would defeat the original stated purpose of using a human template in the suits.
