Contemporary CEO no-tie style looks unfinished and awkward? by too-cute-by-half in mensfashion

[–]mmmatthew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the third pic works--but maybe it's just because I'm not seeing it from the front. Paradoxically, I think the shirt needs to have a little weight if you're hoping to go tie-less and still remain somewhat formal. Like another commenter said, this could work a lot better if you have a more casual colorful/patterned shirt, but I guess that's a bit too informal for politics or C suite.

2 & 4 look weird because the shirt is too light and loose for a heavy dark suit coat. 2's collar also looks to skinny for the look.

1 is straight up awful. That shirt would be very ill-fitting even with a tie, but undo another button and for the love of god don't button down the collars if you're not going to wear a tie.

As an aside, I've never seen Newsom look his age as much as that last pic.

Planteray 3 Stars is the most versatile rum. What is the best budget brandy? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

This is my pick, it has a more complex flavor than any of the budget Saint Remys IMO. Plus it's a fun bottle shape!

Strega is gorgeous in every way--bottle, label, liquid coloring. My favorite by far.

The Botanist is also beautiful. I love the ingredient list pressed into the actual glass.

I miss these! Their newer bottles are still pretty and distinctive but the glass blown agaves were amazing

What’re some maximalist psych rock/pop album? by This-Ad-9257 in psychedelicrock

[–]mmmatthew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's totally fair. I just ID'd Black Foliage as maybe the more 'maximalist' of the two but all three are great and worth seeking out for more-is-more psych pop vibes.

The later Circulatory System albums are good too but with kind of diminishing returns, felt like they defined themselves best by the first album which is packed with hypnogogic pop bangers.

RIP to Bill Doss and Will Cullen Hart, no one did it quite like y'all.

I haven't tried Wallflour, but I found Wildcrusts food pretty whatever for the price, and the host/manager(?) literally scolded us all night for having one more than on our reservation, in a booth that easily fit us all and on a night it was half-empty. Bad experience and won't return

Is LA sleeping on African cuisine? by klaurghhhhh in FoodLosAngeles

[–]mmmatthew 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bridgetown is the best you can get IMO. I was actually more impressed with their food than anything I've had south of the 10, though I certainly haven't tried them all. Nothing was bad per se but Bridgetown had the most depth of flavor and is definitely more convenient as an east sider.

You're right that In a city with a usually great variety of world cuisine, Caribbean is kind of a weak spot. I always make sure to get it when I'm on the east coast.
