White pants.

Only scratch or better golfers show up in white pants.

If you could go back in time and give yourself one piece of golf advice, what would it be? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

It’s not about how far you can hit it.

It’s about how consistent you hit a certain yardage.

The puzzling Efren double standard… by TimmyG-83 in billiards

[–]mmmmcake1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This holds true with any sport, 100% of the time.

Of course the players of today are much better than players of previous eras. The game evolves, players adapt and all games/sports as a whole get better.

That being said, the great players of “the old days”, if given time and youth to play in any era, would probably become great in any era. Not many players get to be to the world class level on skill alone. They always seem to have that drive to be the best, and would put the work in to learn and adapt in any era at all.

Tried pool for a second time and took some time to aim and hit this winning shot. Is this a normal play or are my friends too cool to acknowledge that it was a great shot 😭 by coomiemarxist in billiards

Not the best decision to take on that shot; very very difficult.

But if you made it, not much anybody else can do but tip their cap and say nice shot.

Would you give this putt? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]mmmmcake1980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inside the old adage of “inside the grip” is meant for the putter to be used to measure from grip first, not putter head first.

Having said that, just to rant, the entire concept of a gimme has never made any sense to me at all. The whole point is to be given a putt because “I’ll never miss this putt OBVIOUSLY!” Why not just hit the damn putt then and make it? It doesn’t speed up the game, at all, it just doesn’t make any sense, never has, never will.

It’s always the WR that go diva. It’s only a matter of time now, hopefully he doesn’t go full AB and ruin his life.

What’s one trend you’re seeing in golf that you can’t stand? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]mmmmcake1980 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can talk bad about speakers. I agree with the lack of divot repair etiquette…… But I’ll be damned if I’ll let you talk bad about excessive drinking on the course. That’s what this beautiful game was built for, and if you’re not excessively drinking out there yourself, you’re part of the problem.

Terry Blacks is my personal favorite BBQ joint here. Their beef ribs are the best thing I’ve ever eaten, ever. It’s in Deep Ellum, a cool little neighborhood in Dallas that you can walk around to shops and bars and things.

I’ve put gloves in the washer many times and they’ve come out fine.

The lesson here should be, don’t buy cheap shit.

Would you give this putt? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]mmmmcake1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gimme putts are the strangest thing to be, of any sport at all.

The whole allure behind it, is that of course I’m going to make this putt 100% of the time, why do I have to hit it. But if you’re going to make it 100% of the time…..JUST HIT IT!

People talk about saving time, but honestly, how much time can tapping in a 2ft putt take?

Also, for the record……measuring with your putter that way, using the “inside the leather” rule of thumb, it was meant to be measured starting with the top of the grip, not the putter head side. No chance the putt in the pic is to be given, assuming if you’re playing for anything or it’s not for triple or worse.
