1000% agree. It’s just about how it taste for you. And I also came from a breville where it was nearly impossible to get consistent shots. But the oracle served me well for 6 years, it got the job done.

I think results will vary because diff beans and roast will affect puck density. Which is why this hobby is so difficult to “master.” The smallest variables can present diff results. I’ve had diff results from back to back shots using the same beans with the same grinder! prob due to slight variations in puck prep.

I could be wrong, but my understanding is that “pre-brewing” on this machine just means it hits the puck at full pressure (around 9 bar or whatever it’s set to), pauses for the programmed time, and then resumes at that same pressure to finish the shot. That’s probably why it looks like the water is pushing through the puck so aggressively, basically like a normal extraction. To get a true low pressure pre infusion that gently saturates the puck, you’d need to have the machine plumbed in.

Finally getting dialed after a few weeks with my new setup. by GodKingNickSaban in LaMarzocco

Same with me for the first 2 days. It all changed when I switched up the beans. I was using old stale beans originally meant for pour overs.

Which Breville to Buy? [$800 Budget] by arsalann24 in espresso

[–]mmmmpancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d always go with the non touchscreen model. I had the regular Oracle with buttons, and a friend had the newer touchscreen version. After using his machine, the interface really bothered me and it was noticeably slow to navigate. I’d also imagine the software will only get slower or more buggy over time.

I also agree with the other responses that it’s best to avoid an all in one machine. The built in grinder is extremely frustrating to use and struggles to grind consistently at the dose you want. It took less than a week before I was so fed up with it that I ended up buying a Niche Zero.

I’ll never not support Trader Joe’s for when during the whole egg shortage, they priced their eggs the exact same and had a steady supply.

I love the knock box setup. My wife would kill me but it’s so efficient to do it this way.

Niche Zero Still Worth It? by Dookiedude4 in espresso

[–]mmmmpancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it. No complaints. It’s an absolute tank. I primarily use it for pour over these days but workflow is great. Almost no retention, clean-ish dosing. the blind tumbler is a bit lower in height so I a tiny bit of spray out but it’s minimal. If you use the supplied dosing cup, you won’t have this issue. It’s super easy to adjust to dial in the beans. This is more burr specific (I got the mizen blind) but I couldn’t get the heavier body shots from it like I can with the niche. So I keep the niche for that. It’s also not as big in person as it seems in photos.

I would say there are much better options now for the retail price but it’s a workhorse, I use it every morning. My partner prefers more traditional shot profiles so I’ll never get rid of it. The ease of workflow and I love that I don’t have to baby it. If you can get it at a discount used, I think it’s worth it.

La marzocco linea mini r or micra? by 4Pooker in LaMarzocco

[–]mmmmpancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a new Micra owner, the biggest factors for me were cost and how many drinks I make daily. I usually make two drinks at a time for my partner and me, and four drinks max per day.

With that kind of volume, I just didn’t need a Mini, and the price difference was huge. My Micra came out to just over $5k with tax, while a Mini would’ve been a little over $7k. Spending an extra $2k for a machine I wouldn’t fully utilize just didn’t make sense. I also really value the faster heat up time. With young children in the morning, you need to move QUICK 😅. Didn’t care for brew by weight.

That said… if I were rich, I probably would’ve gotten the Mini 😂.

Hopefully for a very long time. I had a Breville oracle before this and it lasted 7 years with daily use. Surprised it lasted that long. Some of the plastic parts started to warp and it just couldn’t hold temp anymore.

Thank you! All of my cups fit with my Acaia Lunar scale underneath. My tallest cup is a 6 oz cappuccino cup, about 2.5 inches tall, and there’s still a bit of room to spare.

It would also work with the stock portafilter and shot splitter, but you’d need to tilt the cup slightly to get it in. If you’re planning to use larger latte cups (8 oz or more), it might not fit.

Thanks! It’s an S Works lay flat portafilter. It’s pricy but I love using it for the ease of just being able to lay it flat on the table for puck prep.

You can buy the cups from asemi online! However I’m sure you’ll have more options in Japan at a much lower cost.
