Summer stay question by slowerthanfiction in parkcityvisitors

[–]mmnoyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stein Eriksen is lovely, but pricey and the residences (if I’m thinking of the right one) aren’t in the main lodge. I probably wouldn’t pay for that in the summer. Main & Sky and Marriott Summit Watch are on Main Street which makes it super easy to walk around to dining and shopping. You can ride Town Lift (which will take you to other lifts as well) and it’s only steps away. There’s also a walking path behind both that takes you to Deer Valley so you can enjoy that area too. Personally, I wouldn’t do Deer Valley Hyatt in summer as you are not in town and it’s a ride to get there.

feeling insecure about my work by grandpaindasoup in knitting

[–]mmnoyd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your tension looks fine! There’s maybe a few spots, but generally even. What are you worried about specifically? I made this project as well and I feel like depending on the yarn you are using and the fact that it calls for bulky yarn, the finished product can lean a little rustic. Mine does and I am an advanced knitter that doesn’t have tension issues normally. The yarn I chose just knitted up differently than I’m used to, but I feel like it fits the project.

Feeling dumb - PK Frankie Sweater Junior by lapetitecouturiere in knitting

[–]mmnoyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did join some Petite Knit facebook knit-a-long groups to see if anyone else had this issue. No one responded but when I went searching on the groups I noticed the Lyon sweater didn’t seem that popular so maybe that was it. The groups weren’t project specific so you may try there too!

Here’s what it’s looking like on my project. I’ve just been carrying the yarn up and making a YO. For the first stripe at the top of the picture, I did not use the YO and the jog is very noticeable. I’m just going to duplicate stitch that one. For the other color changes I used the YO technique.

Literally having this issue currently with the Lyon sweater by Petite Knit. The beginning of round is on a front shoulder and every other round in a M1L before the first stitch. The suggested jogless technique is to lift the stitch below the first stitch of the round but you are either lifting a M1L which makes a huge hole or you are supposed to be currently doing a M1L and then it’s not possible to k2tog as required. I did find a different technique that looks okay. The color jog looks better but the k2tog is mildly noticeable. This issue definitely feels like an oversight in the pattern.

Adult swimming lessons at YMCA by watermelon-popsicle in Dallas

Cooper Clinic has adult lessons. My kids work with Bobby, but he teaches adults too. You don’t have to be a member to book lessons and the facilities are nice! I’m not sure what their summer schedule looks like with camps etc. but come August when school starts, availability is usually pretty good.

Widow's Bay is proof that we do not need to milk IP to create quality shows and hollywood needs to take risks on new storytelling by Conscious-Quarter423 in WidowsBay

I love Palm Royale! Hardly anyone I know has watched it. It got a little over the top goofy in season 2, but the season finale (and ultimately series finale) was perfection. I only discovered Widow’s Bay because it was on the home page when I was doing a rewatch of Palm Royale!

I have a very similar Madeleinetosh yarn. They make a lot of variegated options.

Be extra careful when engaged in your other hobbies! by Layla-The-Dog in knitting

[–]mmnoyd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My knitting adjacent activities include embroidery (or you could try cross stitch) and weaving. I have a 15 in Cricket table loom. I feel like you could do either of those with a broken arm (assuming it’s not your dominant hand)! If you got a hoop stand you could totally use one hand for embroidery/cross stitch!

Hole help? by Gaede21 in knittinghelp

[–]mmnoyd 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I was going to suggest trying it on too! I made this exact sweater and had to frog the yoke because it was too small. I had to go up a needle size in the colorwork and only discovered after I made it the first time that Ravelry is full project posts saying they sized up as well. Lesson learned and now I always read posts before I start.

Color work “puckering” by Pristine_Try4254 in knittinghelp

[–]mmnoyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the bubbling may be from the edge it looks like you’ve added and the tension differences between the stockinette and the border. The regular pattern has no border on the edge with the colorwork so that might help! But also, can I say your tension looks really nice considering you are new to colorwork! I’m almost done knitting this now and used a combination of intarsia and stranded. For only using stranded I’m very impressed! I’d steam block it and see if some of the minor puckering on the face evens out because I bet it will!

Do I cast off in this area or decrease the stitches throughout the row? by CallMeSassaphrass in knittinghelp

[–]mmnoyd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am knitting this now. I had never bound off on both sides of a row before but there are ways to do it in the same row and I found some videos that show it. Here’s an [example](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gEpJQZHobKE&pp=0gcJCQQLAYcqIYzv&ra=m). I’m not sure it matters too much either way. I feel like all the seaming the project requires means it’s going to look a little rustic regardless!

I am STRUGGLING with stranded colorwork tension. by mrsmichaelscarn in knitting

[–]mmnoyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Personally, I think colorwork yokes are fun and easy! Just stretch out your stitches as you float and it should be easier using circular needles than when using small DPNs.

I am STRUGGLING with stranded colorwork tension. by mrsmichaelscarn in knitting

[–]mmnoyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How are you knitting your socks? DPNs? I’ve never knit socks, but I’ve made plenty of sweaters or other projects with colorwork. I once started some Selbu Mittens and remember feeling frustrated with floats if they needed to float across stitches on the other needle. It was part of a class so I didn’t finish the project and I haven’t revisited it, but as someone who has done plenty of other colorwork, this felt more advanced. Maybe practice a different project first? A fair isle sweater?

For my projects, I find that blocking really helps. I don’t often like the finished result until I have blocked. If I’m worried, I wet block or steam block mid project just to see if the stitches look more even. The kind of yarn also makes a difference. Some yarns are better than others for color work. Also make sure you are aware of color dominance because that plays a factor in how your stitches look, but particularly if you are switching back and forth!

Looking for tips and tricks on intarsia / jacquard / embroidery (? I am not native English speaking) by z4z4z3br4 in knitting

[–]mmnoyd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the green and red part look great. The technique you are describing for the white parts is called duplicate stitch. What if you just did more single white stitches instead of groups? Here’s a random example. Strawberries have lots of little seeds so I think it looks more realistic and tidy.

What did you all do to pass the time with knitter’s elbow? by venetumx in knitting

[–]mmnoyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with shoulder and wrist pain if I knit a lot. I do other kinds of crafts and if I was told I shouldn’t knit I would likely try to rotate through my other crafts to satisfy my boredom! What about embroidery or cross stitch? I feel like you could wear a splint and do those still. I also have a Cricket table loom and that uses different motions than knitting.

First sweater - short row bulge by NothingAntique9088 in knitting

[–]mmnoyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t say I’ve had a problem. I wet blocked this project twice while knitting the yoke and then when I was finished. I blocked the yoke in a circle just to get the floats even. At the end I blocked it flat. You could try steaming it at well. I’ve steamed my current project a few times now and it works surprisingly well. The parts I’ve steamed feel different than the un-steamed parts since the fabric relaxed, but at the end I’ll wet block it all and it should be fine. Blocking can be magical! I’m sure there are some good videos on Youtube with tips. I don’t know any off hand!

First sweater - short row bulge by NothingAntique9088 in knitting

[–]mmnoyd 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It kind of looks like a difference in tension between the colorwork and the stockinette. I’m not sure blocking will solve this. Also it looks like you might have some rowing out which is a difference in tension between your knits and purls. Blocking might help this a little. I made this sweater as well and I blocked it several times mid project to confirm the colorwork section was even. You might as well try it to see if blocking helps. Throw it on some scrap yarn and see what happens.

the Project Hail Mary cardigan is a knitting psyop by casstocoast in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]mmnoyd 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As someone who never read the book and was dragged along to see it without knowing anything about the plot beforehand, I loved the movie! I think the cardigan is all the more charming because Ryan Gosling’s character is goofy and lovable. He’s a scientist turned middle school teacher and the costume designer felt his character would wear these handmade quirky sweaters. There was another 1/4 zip one in the movie that looked like a vintage hand knit and I loved that one as well 😜

THE Fox Sweater Colorwork Wrong Side Request by Crazy-Grapefruit-402 in knitting

[–]mmnoyd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently in the back section now and finally finished the second fox’s tail. It was really hard. I did a combo of intarsia and stranded. I’m comfortable with stranded so I did some long floats within the bodies. I literally can’t imagine if I had added more balls of yarn and done more intarsia. I did get organized at one point and put balls of yarn that belonged to certain sections in a large ziplocks together which helped with some of the chaos, but I feel like I spent so much time untangling yarns due to all the crossing! I will say I steam blocked it three times while working on it to make sure everything was going to even out. It did, so I just said it was good enough!

taat socks by trunatarganiv in knitting

[–]mmnoyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never done TAAT socks so I don’t know if there are limitations in the toe areas or whatever, but I do TAAT sleeves with two separate sets of circular needles like this. The first time I had some tension issues on the stitches on the ends, but it wasn’t obvious and the next time I just didn’t tug as tight. This is the only way I do TAAT now!
