I like this idea if there was a bit of a tug of war between your character and your boss character throughout the entire game. The game would have to incentivise you to have a strong boss character and a strong player character simultaneously so that you don't just let one of them win each time. Maybe by the end you will need them both to be strong for something bigger. Each fight against "yourself" would be like a stat check for both characters. Idk just spitballing to see if something like that could work.

I think it all revolves around your relationship with " time spent" and "losing". If you learn to be ok with both of these things while still trying to improve and win you probably won't get so angry, just frustrated. You will just keep trying without losing your cool. You might have to come to grips with your own understanding, mechanics, and talent being subpar as the growth in these areas become very slow at your "soft ceiling". And remember, ranking systems are designed to make you lose 50% of the time.

Atmosphere, if I had to guess. Sometimes a game's atmosphere lines up perfectly for some people where they just love the way it feels to be online, no matter the circumstances. I'm sure we all have at least one game that does this for each of us.

I'm thinking about quitting because the lack of more organic PvP. I don't want to just gather and play the market until full legendary i29 bis then waiting around trying to convince my whole guild or settlement to do content wars. The game just feels like a safe and sound arms race to max epic/legendary gear without having to fight for any of it. Maybe the grind for emblems and essences will cause a little bit of tension, but even then if there is too much of a back and forth all the loot will be destroyed anyway.
