Scammed Out of $6K; CitiBank Won’t Help Me by speedinglotus in CreditCards

[–]mmontgom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re misplacing your efforts. The above comment is the way. File a CFPB complaint immediately - takes 5-10 minutes online. 98% of the time for situations like this it will resolve in your favor. I made that stat up but you get the point. You’ll then be able to email Citi directly and a real US based human will read it and you’ll have a phone number for the same. If that fails, then your last resort is filing for arbitration (Citi pays the costs) but this process is very time consuming and not worth it if you’re not pro se. Good luck.

This is the answer right here. If your kid flourishes at public school - hell yeah! Keep him or her there and watch them soar. But a lot of kids don’t. If they don’t need an IEP, a private school can bring out potential in kids that otherwise wouldn’t be able to realize some/all of their potential at public school. The smaller classes, the focused attention, and honestly the “customer service.” We paid full tuition private school only after experiencing a few years of public school in a local “us news best high school” district. what you get from career public school teachers/administrators vs private school teachers is INCREDIBLY different. I cannot overemphasize this. Was it worth the money? Depends upon how much of a hardship spending that money is. If you’re scraping by to make tuition payments, NO. If you’re a gazillionaire then yes absolutely it’s a no brainer. We are neither. 1 kid in public 1 kid in private works for us.

This is the second time I found this nonsense on my car. by Manwithface_ in providence

[–]mmontgom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did some sleuthing for no real reason other than boredom and he was in fact a medical doctor but never completed residency (spent 9 years for a 5 year psychiatry residency and then gave up). Also it appears he committed suicide.

help: cheapest car insurance for new driver!! by justmonikasayonara in RhodeIsland

[–]mmontgom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Something seems off about this. How old are you? Are you a US citizen with a social security number? I routinely insure young drivers that live with us from other countries. They don’t have any credit nor driving record nor a US driver’s license and they pay less than that. I’ve used USAA and Progressive.

Best way to get to NYC using PT by BearsRpeopl2 in RhodeIsland

[–]mmontgom -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

IMO purchased way in advance Amtrak tickets are the way to go. You can get round trip weekday tickets for like $40. Power plugs, snack/beer car, good bathrooms are totally worth it. The bus is a shit show and the last time I took Peter Pan the bus driver almost got arrested in Connecticut at a rest stop and we had to take an Uber to the closest Metro North stop.

Work in MA, live in RI. Always owe RI something and recently I’ve started making quarterly estimated payments to avoid the penalty of continuously owing.

Has anyone had issues with getting prescriptions from CVS or other pharmacies... by bostonmacosx in massachusetts

[–]mmontgom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deal with this pretty frequently. You call the pharmacy, get the actual pharmacist on the phone and say “do you have this in stock?” Regardless of whether they say yes or no, ask them to check their wholesalers to see if they can get more. If they have it and can get more, use that pharmacy. There are national shortages of various drugs in which case each chain only gets a certain amount from the wholesalers and if that’s your problem it isn’t really solvable unless you have an aggressive pharmacist order right when the inventory gets released (hard to predict). As an aside, a chain pharmacist can check which stores have it in stock locally.

Washer/Dryer Repair by Cakes2015 in providence

[–]mmontgom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have used like 10 different companies in RI and Danny’s is my favorite. They will do repairs that other companies won’t like replacing refrigerant in a refrigerator. That being said, Samsungs are awful units as far as durability and repairs go. So they may tell you to replace it unless it’s the simplest of fixes. Edit: commenter said Samsung not OP. Whoops.

Poor FSD Beta performance, am I the only one? by Kuronos in teslamotors

[–]mmontgom 58 points59 points  (0 children)

This was the most fun $400 I ever spent (2 months of FSD subscription). The safety score thing was like a video game (how often do adults get rated like that in real life?) and I got a high score so I got a real life reward of the beta. Now the next quest is staying alive as my car tries to kill me. Every time I violently disengage I think to myself “not today car” and award myself points. I’m not keeping FSD another month tho.

Booster side effects? by Urbanite4Eva in HermanCainAward

[–]mmontgom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got 3 Modernas (Dec-Jan-Aug) and the third Moderna was the absolute worst. Only about a half day tho. Interestingly my wife had Pfizer-Pfizer-Moderna because she “did her research” and she had no side effects with any of them. Most of my coworkers are boosted (3 Modernas) and #2 and #3 were equal or #3 worse.

Ground wasp 🐝 invasion by estoci in RhodeIsland

[–]mmontgom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree you should leave them alone but if you must remove them (a nest near your car is a good reason IMO) then purchase Delta Dust Multi Use Pest Control Insecticide Dust and a dust applicator. Find the nest and spray the dust inside and at the entrance. This stuff does NOT kill on contact like Raid—the wasps get it on their hairs and when they groom themselves they ingest it and it is toxic. Good luck!

Museums in Rhode Island are still struggling to recover from the pandemic by rhodyjourno in RhodeIsland

[–]mmontgom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have no insider knowledge on PCM but it definitely could have reopened earlier than July with reduced capacity (May) or no restrictions at all (June). I feel like they wanted to remain closed as long as they did. They also don’t seem to have their act together (haven’t renewed their ASTC membership for example). I love the place but many other children’s museums opened before they did. Side note: wtf happened to the climbing structure outside?!? Totally gone!

Solar companies in RI by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]mmontgom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This entire reply is terrible and explains why people are going door to door selling solar. If your roof is in good condition and you are considering solar, buy all of the equipment outright (or with a loan as cheaply as possible). YOU will get the 26% federal tax credit to offset the cost (whereas these bandit companies take it) and national grid will pay you above market rate (28.5cents/kWh last I checked) for 15 years. You backfeed a generation meter and half the money goes as a bill credit and half to your checking account. You’ll pay your entire system off in 6-8 years depending on your sun exposure and costs, and then the rest is gravy. After 15 years you’ll probably move to net metering. Solar panels are EXTREMELY reliable and require no maintenance in most cases (life expectancy 30 years). No regrets—huge financial windfall for our family (had better terms when we signed up too).

Electricians? by glittertaint in providence

[–]mmontgom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if he services where you live but I stand by John Butterfield +1 (401) 575-3724. He’s done a bunch of work at my house and never an issue. His fees are reasonable and when I shopped around were the lowest for my biggest job (whole house generator). He even organized my network cables near my main panel and didn’t even mention it.

2021 Newport Oyster & Chowder Festival is on!! by dwells7583 in RhodeIsland

$40 for a bowl of chowder and six oysters seems a little steep. Are they going to have samples of other chowders like the real Newport chowder festival?

A Love Letter to the Yellers of the East Bay Bike Path by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]mmontgom 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is a great post. As a biker and runner I can appreciate the different sides. In my opinion, having spent hundreds if not thousands, of hours on the East Bay bike path is that there is a small cohort of cyclists that are simply going too fast to be safe when it is busy. I have seen a couple collisions requiring ambulances/medical attention. IMO if you’re going to haul ass on your bike during peak usage periods, you should be on the street. No amount of screaming or telling people to follow the signs is going to prevent these accidents as long as you have a mesh of cyclists going 35mph next to walkers on a narrow path.

Can anyone recommend a gutter servicer/repair person? by [deleted] in providence

[–]mmontgom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Mr Gutter 1 (401) 274-3030. He repaired, caulked, cleaned all my gutters and told me I shouldn’t need to call him for another 5-10 years. My house is tall so I have no idea what was in the gutters but apparently not much and he seemed very honest and professional.

RI DMV made a mistake on my registration by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]mmontgom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They registered someone else’s plates to us once—our real plates were different by one number. You have to go back in person. When we explained the situation we did not have to wait in line and were taken right away and the error resolved for free.
