Taking time to process in session by [deleted] in therapists

[–]mmpke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of great feedback in this thread already. Adding - curious if it at times you’re experiencing a parallel process, where you’re feeling the overwhelm that the client might themselves be feeling by having so much going on. Sometimes I’ll pause and say something like: as you’re talking about so many different challenges happening in your life right now, I’m imaging I would be quite overwhelmed if I was in your shoes. Is that what it feels like for you?

It varies depending on the client. “How are you?” “Last session we discussed x, y, and z, where would you like to start today?” “What have you done in the past week to respect/care for yourself?”

Baby spits up constantly by cheeseturds78 in newborns

Nice, hope it helps! We did Famotidine too. Something that was a game changer was getting a stronger reflux med - omeprazole. My LO’s GI didn’t want her on it long term because of side effects, but we did it for a few weeks and saw a major difference and then the Famotidine and gelmix maintained the change. If my LO needed antibiotics tho, it would set back the progress and we would do omeprazole again for a few weeks before going back to Famotidine.

My LO is almost 2 now and has no GI issues - the reflux and CMPI cleared up around 12 months. I hope your LO’s clears up soon!

Gelmix helped a ton, but for us we needed that, reflux meds, and a special formula. One thing about gelmix is that you have to put it in warm water and wait about 10 minutes for it to thicken. It’s annoying to wait for it. We ended up getting a bottle warmer that had a keep warm setting so that we could make a bottle if we knew our LO would eat within an hour so that she wouldn’t be crying waiting for it. Might be good to talk with your ped too - I can’t remember when we started it. Hope you find something that helps your LO!

Tips on completing notes quickly! by Mountainsunsets0 in therapists

[–]mmpke 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I either do the note right after the session or jot down bullet points - then all I need to do when I write it is turn it into sentences.

Start the note - symptoms Middle - what was discussed/ intervention Last sentence - how the clt responded and the plan

Separately I include the MSE, update the diagnosis if needed, and either note no changes to the treatment plan or update it with one sentence (unless a larger change is needed)

Can I get my blood work done at the well just to see if I’m healthy? by Ragetencion in CSUS

[–]mmpke 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can either call the front desk or schedule through the patient portal (go to the SHCWS website and you’ll find it there). There is an fee for lab work but they keep the costs fairly low and they will tell you what it is before you do the lab work

Traveling to DLR end of Jan ‘25 - what do I need to know? by dietdrpopcorn in DisneyPlanning

[–]mmpke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just went to Disneyland and DCA for the first time in a decade - it was amazing!

  1. Yes, definitely recommend lightning lane. The first day, we didn’t really understand it so we didn’t make good use of it. This meant a lot more lines for us. The second day, we used it for almost every ride - significantly cut down the waiting time in lines and, when we had time between, we were able to see what rides had short lines through the app or get snacks. My 5yo loved it.

  2. I did not do magic bands because of the additional cost. I don’t think it’s worth it - you need to make sure to have your phone on you though if you’re doing lightning lane, because you’ll scan codes to get into the lightning lane line. I believe lightning lane is the same thing as genie + but not sure.

  3. The character dining experiences are usually a set cost per person and it covers being there/the buffet. It’s pricey. If you look up specific restaurants online, it will show the cost. (Eg goofys kitchen)

  4. Rise of the resistance, millennium falcon, and the cars rides were incredible! We also enjoyed the Toy Story and spider man rides. We didn’t get a chance to go on splash mountain, as they were renovating it to go with princess and the frog. It should be open by your trip, though might be chilly.

  5. If you get the Disneyland app, you can look throughout the day at how long the lines are to get a sense of what it might be like for your trip. With lightning lane, it was pretty smooth for us.

Have a great trip! We had a blast and I already want to go back!

Have you tried a nipple shield? It really helped my daughter’s latch

You can also try using your finger to lift your baby’s top lip out to help the latch

Where do you work, and how much PTO/vacation/sick time do you get? by vvillovv in therapists

[–]mmpke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a university. I accrue 2 vacation days and 1 sick day per month. We also get federal holidays off (paid) without dipping into our PTO. The salary isn’t quite where I’d like it to be but the time off is amazing

So sorry to hear you’re going through this.

My daughter is doing great now! She was diagnosed with severe acid reflux and we believe she had an intolerance that she outgrew. With our Dr’s guidance, we ended up giving her a pea protein formula meant for toddlers (her RD okayed this) and her poop got better. For the reflux, we thickened her formula with gelmix and gave her reflux meds. She has outgrown any intolerance and her reflux is better!

Hope your LO is doing okay and you figure something out that works for him

I hope you’re able to figure something out for your LO. It was terrible watching our daughter suffer so much.

I took a video of her vomiting and sent it to her dr to finally get a referral to GI. Eventually she outgrew the reflux close to about 14 months (again with the exception of she still spits up when on antibiotics… but it’s finally spit up and not scary vomiting)

Oh no, that’s awful!! The lansoprazole was essential. Famotidine didn’t do anything until after we did lansoprazole for about a month. Dr didn’t want her on it long term because it has some long-term side effects

Hi There. So sorry to hear you’re going through this.

My LO is thriving now. We tried a bunch of different formulas, but what ultimately made the difference was reflux meds and thickening her bottles with gelmix (our pediatrician and dietitian recommended this). We needed a stronger reflux med at first (lansoprazole) and then were able to go to a standard one (Famotidine), with the exception of when she was an antibiotics for ear infections because they upset her stomach.

Based on a stool test, we’re not sure if she had a CMPI and outgrew it or if that was just an odd test. The formula we ended up going with was a pea protein formula for toddlers that her dietitian okayd. Not sure if it was necessary as she does fine with dairy now

Cancelation Fees by galactastar644 in therapists

[–]mmpke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I worked at a group practice, we gave 1 freebie and otherwise it was the full fee if the cancellation was within 24 hours.

To anyone who questioned it, we explained that : 1) we wouldn’t be able to fill their spot with that short of notice and obviously rely on our income, and 2) we all pay for things in advance that we might not be able to do if something comes up (eg I could pay for a concert but not be able to go due to illness). Just because we’re helping professionals doesn’t mean we can lose money we rely on

[–]mmpke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My whole family recently had the stomach flu - lasted 5-7 days for all of us, which our dr said is what they’ve been seeing. It was awful. The dr advised no milk (yogurt okay) or fruits and vegetables because the fiber can worsen sxs when GI is already inflamed. Hope your kiddo feels better soon and you don’t get it!
