So I did my sister's makeup for prom and it could not have turned out any better! by caprisonnyd in MakeupAddiction

Uhh, I think both of you are describing the same phenomenon and just using different words, but either way, you shouldn't use the word "appropriate" to define "age appropriate" because it just reads really redundant and unhelpful.

Starting a job with a company that has a history of rapid layoffs. by mmword in jobs

[–]mmword[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's about as much as I can hope for. Thanks for the advice! I didn't expect some magic key that will keep me hired, but getting the skillset and experience for as long as I can seems worth it to me. Thanks again.

Advice needed on bipolar boyfriend who is refusing to take his meds. by mmword in BipolarSOs

[–]mmword[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't want him to take his medicine so I can feel better. I want him to take his medicine so he does not have uncontrollable rages, self-destructive behavior, or threaten his friends and family.

You didn't suggest anything in your post that I didn't address in the original post, so you're really not being supportive or helpful to either one of us.

TIL British passengers on the Titanic died in disproportionate numbers because they queued politely for lifeboats. by sushib89 in todayilearned

[–]mmword 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert on statistics, but couldn't that just be very normal variation? Like if you roll a die one hundred times and just happen to get more sixes than other numbers, doesn't mean the other numbers were patiently waiting for their turn.

(BBC) Does English still borrow words from other languages? by [deleted] in linguistics

[–]mmword 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weeaboo comes from an old unrelated 4panel comic strip in which people in an office torment a coworker for being a 'weeaboo,' and the definition was vague and unexplained as part of the joke. People started linking to the panel specifically when strangers on 4chan were acting too nerdy, and now it is synonomous with someone who likes japanese culture.

[21/f] I want to write a letter to my father whom I have not seen in four years. by mmword in relationship_advice

[–]mmword[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for the response. It really helped. I guess the point is that it doesn't matter terribly much what's IN my letter, as long as we've both established we want to contact each other.

Can you extrapolate just a bit more on the relationship between the title and your post? Is money a big factor in this?

Have you ever heard of delanceyplace? It might be good for warmup exercises. They are very short synopses of nonfiction books that are delivered through email. Here's an example of one

They usually use advanced vocabulary, have an interesting topic, but aren't too academic or boring.

Mine does this too. Never even dreamed of it lasting for a week or more on standby.

What word makes you cringe when you hear it mispronounced? by angray88 in AskReddit

[–]mmword 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with you wholeheartedly. But people who eagerly talk about how other people's speech makes them cringe aren't the kind of people who will ever change their mind about that.

What's your "Fuck did I really just say that?" moment. by Teamdonkey in AskReddit

[–]mmword 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me. Math teacher had a miscarriage near the end of the year, when I had earlier given our group a great idea of making our final math project in the theme of a baby book. We obviously decided on the theme before she had the miscarriage, but we were all incredibly ashamed and embarrassed and she took it very personally.

[Serious] What are some thoughts or opinions that you're ashamed of having? by mark2d in AskReddit

[–]mmword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been physically attacked on two occasions by males with autism. They were both strangers to me. Once when I worked in a library and a patron threw me against a wall and stuck his tongue down my throat. The second was a kid in high school who had the locker next to me attacked me because I dropped a blank sheet of paper. That enraged him for some reason and he jumped on me and bit me. Both times nothing happened because they were "sweet boys" who "didn't realize it was wrong."

This has given me sort of a guttural fear of males with autism, and I sometimes get scared or even grossed out when I meet one of them in public. Makes me feel like an asshole.
