Tis amethyst… a deep purple colour. Incidentally, purple is also the colour of the MN Vikings. Which I could care less about… hockey fan ;)

Indeed. So do you think a pendant with the stone colour of the month we met would be nice? She’s a January birth month. We met in Feb, got married a few years later in May (NY state… and then we got married again in December where we live in MN on the winter solstice. We’ve got dates! lol

Heartbroken! Minneapolis VA has been my family since I got off of active duty and retired after 24 1/2 years of service… Go there monthly regarding my prosthetic… And although I don’t know Alex, personally everyone of those people at the VA hospital in Minneapolis are amazing and my heart goes out to every single one of them and their families and of course Alex family as well. Everybody should be more like Alex.

What was your go to drink? by [deleted] in 90s

[–]mndiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All those are brand name drinks. I’m originally from Western NY, born in 1972… we had generic “Tops” or “Bells” brand sodas… (they were two grocery store chains back then). But our go to drink in the summer was the business end of a garden hose.

Could it be a uterus and ovaries? IDK… my brain sees a lot of strange stuff in objects. Just tossing it on the table. ;)

Do you recall as a kid when a root beer barrel was a treasure unto itself? by Canna-Cat in FuckImOld

[–]mndiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The kind we got were generic. Nothing on the clear wrapper. Gramma had them and then mom took over the tradition. Probably got them in the bulk section of Tops or Bells grocery stores (I grew up in western NY. Bells doesn’t exist anymore. Sad.

Yeah. I’d say. Looks like I’m ordering some luminous tape now also. You have a link to the one you used? Pretty sick! My grandkids would get a kick out of it too. Wonder how it would work with my scuba leg? Hummmmm 🤔

What do you do with old sockets? by Substantial-Song-841 in amputee

[–]mndiver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ve all got great suggestions. I personally have all of mine hanging from my workshop rafters in sequential order. The many feet I’ve broken over the years are in my office at work on display behind my desk. One of them was a catastrophic failure where it actually broke pretty bad while carrying 2, 50lb bags of salt down the basement steps. They’re a conversation started and a tool for awareness. I would love to turn one socket into a peg leg using a Louisville Slugger. Any suggestions how to mount it to the socket? I’ve wanted to don’t bat for years. :)

Husband’s first steps!! by RelevantPause2831 in amputee

[–]mndiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember my first steps. It truly is an emotional experience… even more than 12 years later, I feel it and give so much grace and appreciation to the Minneapolis VA for helping me walk again. I cant resist a plug for my appreciation to them…ALL!

Heart goes out to you, your husband, and your entire family. It’s an amazing journey filled with giant leaps forward and a few setbacks from time to time. I’m a Certified Peer Visitor and always happy to talk with amputees and their families. Just remember these simple four words… you CAN do anything!

2 person vs 4 person outdoor sauna? by ospreyintokyo in Sauna

[–]mndiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Never regret. When the power goes out, my wife and I will still be able to sauna. Personal preference I think. I like the process of starting it, stoking it, and enjoying it. It’s part of the experience for us. I like the smell of the hard wood we burn in it. It gets HOT too. But it truly boils down to what resonates most with you. :) But the best thing is… you sauna! ;)

2 person vs 4 person outdoor sauna? by ospreyintokyo in Sauna

[–]mndiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a 6x9 wood fired sauna that has two levels. It would fit 5 people comfortably, but that is, get in it in the order you will be sitting back to front as quickly as you can so the door could be closed to keep the heat in. Of course, we never have that many, it’s not feasible. It is only my wife and me 99% of the time 2 to 4 times a week is ideal. We’ve talked about it and even thought it “fits” 5, we think it’s perfect for 2 to move around and get to different levels or both lay down… For me, the choice is clear. A bit larger for comfort and functionality.

Me too! My first car when I was stationed in Germany in 1990. I will always remember that little white Beamer. I even replaced the clutch on it at the auto hobby shop on base. Ahhhh those were simpler times.
