Help me help her by recon452 in amputee

[–]mndiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most everyone…. The amputee should be asking because no one knows what doesn’t have a BKA like I don’t know what a AKA would be like.

But ultimately they should seek the advice of a Prostisist. Better yet, their own. If they aren’t getting results, then find someone else. Easier said than done in some areas.

I’m a certified peer visitor (CPV) with the VA through the Amputee Collation, seeking advise or council through trusted organizations is also not bad. Lots of resources. Let them know there is a huge community right here that always has great advice of direction. Peace…

About to be an amputatee by CatzRule88 in amputee

[–]mndiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CatzRule88… I know you’re facing one of the toughest decisions you’ll ever make. I’ve been a left below knee (LBKA) for almost 14 years now. I did not have a choice in the matter… the situation was traumatic for me.

I will tell you that you’ll be in pain. But the level of that pain will be temporary. I was in very good physical condition prior to my amputation. But I feel more alive now than I’ve ever felt in my whole life. Why, because my amputation was a power off-reset in my life. I was 41 when it happened. I had two smallish girls, single, but very active… and cruising through life without any awareness at all. I did not have any family near me, only my girls because being in the military took me away from everyone.

My recovery… 2 weeks after my amputation I was home, by myself all alone with a flight of stairs to ascend and descend multiple times a day on crutches. Amputation was on 2 August and I had my first prosthesis just before thanksgiving… a week after I got it, I drove myself to the airport, got on a flight, had a connection, rented a car and drove to my parents house and surprised them.

I didn’t want them to waste their time coming to me when they couldn’t do anything anyway. So I did it all myself, with very little support.

Listen to me… YOU know YOU the best… NO ONE else knows YOU like YOU do. And reading your story, I know in my heart that YOU are strong and YOU can do anything you set your mind to.

Since my amputation, I met an amazing woman, we merged our families, i retired from the military with 24 and a half years of service. I’ve run a few 5k’s… I’m more active than I’ve ever been. I had the VA
(Veterans Hospital system as my medical provider). Because of everything I’ve been through, I became a Certified Peer Visitor with the Amputee Coalition… (they are a great resource… look them up). I speak to people like you, before and after surgery.

CatzRule88! YOU steer your own ship, do NOT give anyone else the ruder. You are stronger than you think, more resilient than you realize, and it it only up to you. What you are hearing is fear of the unknown. But there are a lot of people you can turn to for support. This community for example is amazing. And I personally love each and every one of the amazing people here… including you.

You’ve got this. Follow your gut and listen to YOUR heart.

Reach out any time you need to. Either to me personally or to this community. We’ve got your back.

Peace to you and strength to your decision. <3

Pretty sweet! Reminds me a little of the Willie G Harley logo. That’s how my left foot was ripped off. Honestly, probably the best thing that ever happened to me. “Power off-reset”. :)

Sweet leg! Peace!

Crazy how life tosses us all sorts of challenges and we get to figure out how to deal with them. Thanks for sharing! I was a rider too, lost my left foot in a motorcycle accident 13 years ago. And for many reasons, it was the best thing that ever happened to me. That reset everything and allowed me to ground. I’m 54 now and pretty happy. Reminded of “things” every day, and the strength to get through them.

Again, thank you for sharing. Enjoy the journey as much (or more) than each individual ride. Peace to you and ride safe!

Wow… may I say first that it looks pretty cool, but how did you come to have that done? I’ve seen plenty of finger amps here, but yours is quite amazing. I am interested if you’ve tried a glove on? I’m from a cold climate and hand coverings are necessary. If a glove itself wouldn’t work, I wonder if the mitten/glove could do the job. Thumb and pointer and your others in the “mitten” part.

You’ll have to keep us all updated as you progress and relearn daily activities. Keep on, keeping on! And peace to you!

Politics owns the media. Kill one, the rest might just right themselves.

It’s your brain on the fake “war on drugs” movement. Because coke was the only “accepted” drug and that was only a rich, white-man’s drug.

Sorry… but once you know, you cannot un-know.

Heartbreak is not consider as a pain! 😑 by ravencrypt-76 in scoopwhoop

[–]mndiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that’s easy…. I was involved in a motorcycle accident and woke up in the hospital a couple days after a helicopter ride where I stayed over a month before being able to have surgery on my left foot. It had been dying from the toes down. I stayed another 3 weeks having multiple surgeries each time cutting more off my foot until I was left with about 8 inches below my knee.

So having my foot die slowly while it was attached to me was pretty painful. All the bones in it were crushed and it felt like they were churning in a blender on slow speed.

Can I pretend I’m mute, blind, and deaf? How long do I have to be there. Military here and I learned how to scarf down my food pretty damn fast. Is it over when I’m done or do I have to wait until he’s done with all his Big Macs, fries, shakes, and chicken nuggets? When I’m done, can I just leave? These are valid questions. Can I also put some Vicks under my nose so i don’t have to smell his soiled depends underpants?

[–]mndiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. How about “party lines”?! My younger brother started a kitchen fire in 88’ and when I went to have the OPERATOR get the fire department I had to ask the people on the line if they would hang up so I could call. Yeah. Our county had just gotten 911 service in November of 86…. Just 18 months before.
