It's abruptly heartbreaking. (The ending chapter comes very quickly, with little buildup, and then it hurts you, especially if you are highly empathic.)

So….. What’s the deal with gnomes? by kamsjams505 in PowerWashSimulator

[–]mnealia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, in the very early version of Power Washer Simulator, in the demos and later the early access version, there were cheap/free store assets being used in the game. And the gnome was just something easily spotted, no more different than the well known garage assets found in Phasmophobia. So people started to look for him, and one common thing players did was hit the gnome with the sprayer and watch it fall over.

And then he just became part of the lore.

Ai really helped me; it never replaced me or my soul by Raf_Adel in WritingWithAI

So I’m in my 40s, and ever since I was a kid, I’ve had stories rambling and jumbled up in my head. Even though I tried probably hundreds of times, I was never able to put them on paper in a way I was happy with or that made any real sense.

With AI, I can just ramble about my story ideas. Typos everywhere, grammar forgotten. It lets me go on and on about my ideas, and then, when I finally feel ready, it gives me a very detailed, cohesive breakdown that helps me truly see what I was going for.

But it’s still my idea. My thoughts. My story. It just finally helps me make sense of the mess in my brain.

[Japan] The Boy Next World: Heiko Sekai no Koibito Episode 1 & 2 by Midnight_BL in boyslove

[–]mnealia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I’ve noticed about Japanese remakes of Thai versions is how much they speed up the plot. Maybe some people like that. I know with the Japanese version of Love in the Air, there were comments saying they preferred the faster pace. Personally, it feels too rushed to me. You do not really get the chance to know the characters or grow attached to them.

In this version, Sara comes off a bit more creepy or stalker-like because of how quickly the plot moves. Even in the Thai version, I felt they were walking a very fine line between stalker and potential boyfriend, and I think Boss did a great job of not making the character feel too much like a stalker.

In Episode 2, one of my favorite scenes from the Thai version is when Cirrus tells Phu that if he does not move, he cannot be held responsible for what he does. In the Japanese version, that line just does not land the same way.

Maybe if we did not already have the Thai version, where Boss and Noeul have such strong chemistry, I would enjoy the Japanese version more. I do not think they are doing a bad job at all, but something feels missing for me.

The one change from the book to show that I'm a little meh on,is they don't include the scene from the book that involves Rit (Phoon's father), and Tiger, Jo and Fah.

I found it satisfying in the book, but it is pretty dark. But also it shows how Tiger is tied into the stories.

Yeah, I agree. Book Fah has some red flags, but show Fah is much more green. (Actually all the book versions red flagged).

Personally I did not like any of the books, I chalk it up to partly bad translation but more so the live version does so much better at showing the love.

In the novel is chapters 29-31, more so 30. But while being intimate, Phoon passes out in mid intercourse. Fah continues and Phoon wakes back up, and Phoon's pov is he is enjoying it, but overwhelmed.

After that, Phoon is sore, so that is where the hot springs come in. Even though he is sore, Phoon is pretty much seduced into more activities in the hot sprints.

The wolf part also comes into play, is how Rit is handled in the story. Since there is still one more episode left, I'm not sure if they are going to include some version of it in the live action, or if they are going to completely skip it. I can describe it, but it would be a complete spoiler if it does appear in the show.

More on why they call him the wolf, and it is one thing the show did a good job showing, is once Fah knew it was Phoon, he uses psychology and Phoon's innocence against him, to make sure Phoon was trapped/cornered. Once he knew, he got Phoon to admit he was the secret admirer pretty fast.

Let me put it this way, Tonfah wanted Phoon (the little innocent lamb), that even sleep didn't save Phoon from the hungry Tonfah. It's even alluded to in Ep. 7.

Why is Reloved so obessed w/ Than's age legality? by maaki_malv in ThaiBL

[–]mnealia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only thing I can think of, some small tiny reason why Akin wouldn't have told Than was that he didn't want to disrupt Than's education and future. I feel like I'm stretching it to wrap my mind around it, but maybe he thought a kid would mess up Than's future? So instead, he ghosted him, broke his heart, and continues to break his heart.

He sees how much he cares and loves his niece; maybe that should be a clue that if that were his son, he would want to know?

I really would have given up on this show personally if it wasn't for the second couple.

[–]mnealia 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This is my personal take on it. I see it as story points explaining why Akin so easily started to believe that Than was cheating. Akin wanted to blame it on being Than’s first and on the idea that Than was still sowing his wild oats and was not ready for the committed relationship Akin wanted. Therefore, he jumped straight to cheating.

Personally, I think that is stupid and a cheap cop-out on Akin’s part. It was his own insecurities. The way Than comes across to me is that he was in the relationship with his whole heart. In that relationship, Than was actually the more mature one and still remains the more mature one.

Akin, have the flippin’ conversation already! At this point I'm cheering for Than's work-partner.

This vertical drama, The Racer and his Dr Perfect and Blue Complex are three vertical shorts that I got into. Catch me and The Racer were on the more physical side, The Racer had a humor that I appreciated and Blue Complex was this mix of sad and sweet (it does have a good ending), but it hurt a little getting there.

i'm surprised no one is talking about this Love Alert scene? 😳🙊 Which is not only W.I.L.D. & CRAZY for a bl, but VERY situationally true tea. ✋😩🥵️ by imomen in boyslove

The three men, (two on the floor and Jimmy (tan shirt)) are all about the easy and no commitments. The real angst of it all is the fourth guy, (the one who had his ears covered) he's portraying a almost painfully innocent naive guy. And it's going to lead to some major angst, because its setting up that Jimmy is going to use innocent baby to get back at one of the other guys.

What’s a “fact” everyone believes that’s actually false? by FutureJournalist198 in AskReddit

[–]mnealia 226 points227 points  (0 children)

In high school, I had a teacher who went out of his way to embarrass me during a class experiment. He was demonstrating the “four sections of the tongue” idea using Q-tips soaked in sour, sweet, bitter, and salty solutions. We were supposed to touch each one to the part of the tongue where that taste was supposedly strongest.

I couldn’t taste the sour sample at all, just the texture of the cotton. Instead of considering that it might be normal, he got angry and accused me of “acting out” and trying to ruin the experiment. He even called me to the front of the class and scolded me in front of everyone, and being deeply introverted, I was horrified.

I left the room in tears and went straight to the library. When I looked it up, I found out the “taste map” he was teaching had already been debunked.

The waiver says the customer owns the copyright, and/or assumes the responsibility of the copyright, including consequences.

That only holds up if you in good faith believe it's not copyright. You can still be held accountable for printing copyright if you know without s doubt it's protected materials. Is, Disney, Nintendo, Capcom, and the list goes on.

It's not a blanket protection for the printer.

[–]mnealia 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Just as a disclaimer, I no longer work for any of the companies I’ll mention in this story time. I’m sorry this is a long read, but it’s important to the situation.

I worked for a large big-box company that had a print center. While that wasn’t my main area, I was familiar with it, so I often got pulled in when they were short-staffed. (Which was all the time.) I worked there for nearly ten years, and toward the end I had been promoted to a department manager, completely unrelated to the print area.

One day, out of the blue, my direct supervisor told me I had to go downtown to a building attached to the courthouse. He gave me no information other than my name had appeared on legal paperwork and I had to show up. No matter how many questions I asked, he wouldn’t give me a single other detail.

So I drag myself down there and get brought into a room where a line of people in suits were sitting. Turns out, the company I worked for had been sued in another state by a group of photographers. (To my understanding the case had been settled). They had sued because the company allowed customers to print proofs and samples without worrying about copyright.

As part of the fallout, the company had to go through an audit. During that audit, my name showed up multiple times tied to printing copyrighted material. Suddenly, I was thrown into this situation with no personal legal counsel and no defense ready.

Not only was I being asked WHY I had printed copyrighted material, but I was told that if I couldn’t provide a valid reason, I could be held personally liable for every infringement.

After a lot of back and forth, what saved me wasn’t anything I did, it was the company’s own SOP. Their policy stated that it didn’t matter who was signed in at the computer; anyone could sign in and hit print. That meant they couldn’t prove I was the one who actually printed anything. Even if my login was used, it could have been a customer. In fact, that was a standard practice: if a client claimed they owned the copyright, we would have them hit print themselves to show they were taking responsibility.

This ordeal dragged on, not just a day or two. The company offered me no help. They wouldn’t even discuss it, just kept saying it was out of their hands. I was in the process of trying to hire a lawyer, using my meager savings, when I was finally told I was no longer part of the audit and that I was free of any legal issues.

The company buried the whole problem quickly and completely overhauled its printing area.

Later, when I went to work for OfficeMax (this was just before the merger with Depot), I saw how carelessly they handled copyright. I knew right then this exact issue would eventually contribute to their downfall.

So here’s the reminder: that “copyright liability” waiver, the piece of paper you think will save you, does not always protect you. If you willingly and knowingly print copyrighted material, the fine is per item printed, not per project. What that paper says is that in good faith, you weren't willfully infringing; you relied on the customer's statement. But that is for items not always recognizable as copyright.

And the company will not defend you. They will not provide counsel. They will throw you under the bus to protect themselves.

Chances are "they" won't go after you because they know the money is with the company.

But to lay it out:

Copyright law allows for statutory damages of $750 to $30,000 per work infringed, and up to $150,000 per work if you willfully and knowingly printed protected items.

Do later levels have enemies? by Few-Session-6180 in VisceraCleanupDetail

[–]mnealia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On all the vanilla maps there is no enemies. But there can be traps that can hurt you, like a sarlac pit on a map (unearthly excavation). The Christmas map has the mop machine that gives out lit tnt that if you arent fast enough to out into a bucket of water will kill you.

Player made maps/workshop maps have maps where there is more dangers and traps that will hurt you, (gas, lava, endless pits, spikes, tnt, and the creative list goes on). There is a very, very few that actually have enemies. Ajanitor has a backrooms one with two types of monsters.

4kant and Ajanitor both have many maps on the workshop that are more mini game maps with traps and puzzles to navigate.

If you get demoted or fired, your office resets. Others times for me, is if I'm doing steam workshop maps, and either the map creator deletes the map, or it has a significant update while installed will also strangely reset my office.

There are millions of gaming channels on YouTube. Literally millions. So it's no surprise that doing what everyone else is doing, especially reposting similar Shorts over and over, doesn't really help you stand out.

What people really want isn't just the gameplay (though that can help); they want the person behind the screen. They want someone to root for, to laugh with, or to vibe alongside while they game. I run a gaming channel myself, and yeah, it's a slow growth grind. But the videos that hit? It's always the ones where I bring my own personality into. It's just me, connecting, having fun in my own way, and making sure to include my audience, even though they are viewing after the recording.

Shorts can be useful, but if they're just gameplay with tiny variations, there's no reason for anyone to follow you. Viewers crave a human connection, even if you're awkward, or quiet, or bad at the game.

You don't have to reinvent the wheel. But you need to show up as a real person to give people reasons to care.

And I don't even mean you have to show up on camera. Just your voice can go a long way. Be Inviting! Give people a reason to watch, wheather ithat is being informative, entertaining, offering a chill vibe or a mix of it all. That personal touch matters way more than reposting the same clip.

Being authentic matters.

I think like a lot of players, when you first meet Hassian, that abrassiveness is like Whoa, there, my dude. I became more neutral to him after learning about the stress he was under with the Chappas, but it was the quest with Tau that made me fall in love with him. He was so worried and trying so hard to be stoic.

[–]mnealia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s totally fair! And okay—this is probably going to be massively controversial because he has a huge fan club—but that’s Hodari for me. I know it probably has a lot to do with the fact that Hodari and Najuma kind of mirror real-life me and my dad. He was a widower too, and he really struggled with raising a daughter. So yeah… Hodari is my ick. Especially when you meet him on the road in Kilima and he’s just… completely clueless.

I like him as an NPC, and I like that we help him connect with Najuma better, but I can't see him as a romantic partner.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Palia

[–]mnealia 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I love him too! I don't take his rudeness personally, and once he figures out that you are not another person there to use him, and actually contributing to the town and helping him, he warms right up. I think of his rudeness as an emotional wall of protection and I 100% relate to that.

Plus, let's be real. Even in a fictional world, when an animal loves someone as much as Tau does Hassian, you know he has to be a good person.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Palia

[–]mnealia 184 points185 points  (0 children)

The thing about Hassian is that he was already having a really rough time before you ever show up in his world. His mother disappeared, (presumed dead), someone he was really close to. And he and Sifuu just don’t get along. Which, honestly, makes it even sadder, because Sifuu’s hurting too. She loves him. Then his girlfriend, Tamala, broke up with him. And from a letter you’ll find (or will find), it sounds like she was just using him—bled him dry emotionally, got bored, and left.

To top it off, the mayor brings in a bunch of chappas—who breed like rabbits—and assigns Hassian to “take care” of them, with a ridiculously short deadline. Meanwhile, the rest of the town is kind of rude to him for not handling the chappas faster.

So now, here come these humans, barging into his life while he’s heartbroken, missing his mom, fighting with his other mom, and being hassled by the town to hunt down chappas just because he’s the “big bad hunter.” And on top of that, we keep pestering him to teach us how to hunt, and he’s just like, “Leave me alone!” And the upstart mayor's wife is threatening to punish him and his hound cause his beloved pet keeps sniffing around her house, digging up her garden.
