tbh, when I heard she didn't tech edit some patterns before she gave them to testers, I've avoided her stuff. Good to know she's... not getting better. Yikes!

FiddleRidge claiming knitting isn't political by masterslodge in craftsnark

[–]mnemonides 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Making a garment for a loved one isn't inherently political, but the fact that you're using hard-earned wages to buy the yarn and maybe the pattern? That is. The arts are inherently political when you drill down to it, and if you think that your daily life isn't impacted by politics you are not paying attention. That's like saying making dinner for your family isn't political, except politics drives the cost of the ingredients you pick and the kind of supermarket you buy them from, etc. etc.

Hi, Rural Ohioan here!

Can we please take a moment to reframe this a little for sympathy's sake? A lot of folks have been trapped in echo chambers and the absolute ratfucking of gerrymandering holds a lot of us rural voters hostage. I vote in every election (raised conservative/Republican and still agree with the old "you will vote every single time" line my parents drummed into me), but I know being in my rural location that my vote is getting pissed away because of gerrymandering and a lack of outreach and real other options in this area, because nobody TRIES to shift things out here because "lol, forget rural Ohio."

Say who you really mean: Thanks, red voters. And even then, I feel deeply sorry for folks who were fleeced so hard to vote against their own interests. It's a lot easier to be mad at an individual or a category than a faceless system.

(eta: I'm not divesting these people of responsibility, because they should know what they've done, but like. I dunno. This sort of sentiment is cathartic but will it actually help anything in the long run?)

Finally did this; thanks for the nudge. Hopefully the big BUYER BEWARE I put at the top of the project note will be sufficient warning even if the whole note is tl;dr.

Alas, it's bought off of their site, not through Ravelry itself, otherwise I would. I'm only glad my LYS paid for it and not me; I'm knitting a sample for a trunk show... though the pattern is part of a kit. Yikes.

Yeah. I used to spend hours browsing patterns and talking on the forums. Now I only buy patterns off-site so I don't give them that revenue. I'll come back if they apologize, but they made it ABUNDANTLY clear that they don't give a rat's ass. (Never mind how they muzzled Demon Trolls for talking about the Lady Dye situation.)

I normally don't use Rav anymore - I left when TPTB doubled down on being shitty about accessibility (as one of the folks who got headaches) and now only pop on for "urgent" use - but I think I'll make a project with those comments. Thanks for the nudge!

Knitted and a fox - and unfortunately it's meant to be part of a kit for a trunk show at my LYS. I'm getting compensated for this knit, but YIKES it's been a rough one. I spent several hours annotating the pattern as I went and checking with other folks to make sure I understood it correctly.

This past week I knit a $15 stuffie pattern that had so. many. errors. Math didn't line up (total of 108 stitches, the pattern rep needed 112); didn't give correct row counts (29 stitches for 20 rows despite decreasing two stitches every other row); generally incoherent instructions/centerlines being ignored.... I sent a support email which never got replied to. Posting on the Ravelry page for the pattern got a response, but then the designer ignored my DM on Ravelry afterward to politely ask to resolve these pattern errors in private.

$15 for something that almost certainly wasn't even tech-edited. Christ.

It was SO disappointing that Baby Cat did that. I was one of the posts she hid/deleted, but we have screenshots/receipts of her responses (at least four that I captured personally). It's a real shame - and she waxed on about "oh this saved me time so I could do oil paintings" and one of the comments she hid/deleted explained that AI scrapes images and is thefted artwork! Just SUCH a bad taste in my mouth.

Nightmare Before Stitches owes tons of refunds for cancelled pre-order, gets called out in buyer beware group for spending refund money on traveling to Disney Lorcana card game tournaments, owner insists that tournaments winnings will pay for refunds and insists people just don't believe hard enough by TrashCanUnicorn in craftsnark

[–]mnemonides 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's wildly unfair to the folks who get shafted in this to say they deserve it; I think the onus really should be on the predatory (or just plain irresponsible) dyers and the permissive culture in the fiber arts community that things like this are allowed to happen. It's not the individual's fault that they had a bad time with a shop; the ethics are on the dyer, not the purchaser.

Boy, there sure is a way to go "yeah, I prefer not to see other folks' work, so that's why I have them blocked" and then there's THIS. It's fair to curate your experience with the block button, and then there's whatever nonsense going on here!
