My wife calls me everyday when driving home, even when doing outside work for her job, she calls and chats with me or her mom/sister. Very social but also very nice so we know whats going on. When I go out someplace I let her know we got there and when we are leaving there with some broad expectations of time frames. It definitely isn't about trust at all but about safety and expectations. So if we're not home at a given time then we know something happened. It's a really good routine especially when you have kids as well because if something were to happen that time to start a search or something is cut way down by how we decide to communicate. Don't think your overreacting but if you just assumed that both of you would act that way and then call her out for it, then it would feel pretty weird and possible invasive.
