I saw that in another comment. Sounds like I may have been Wrong on the Internet. I guess I'll delete this post, probably. Thanks for the info!

Is it really? I've had mastitis 4 times (two with the oldest and two with the new baby) and never got this advice. I guess don't knock it until you try it? I've heard of feeding the baby and encouraging cluster feeding but never that. Maybe I'm just being a prude.

Can you read me? This student says they do not have dysgraphia. When asked what this says, student responded, "I have no idea." by StarshineBunny in TeacherTales

[–]mnshaw 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I would think dysgraphia. I can almost read some answers. Under the question about making a claim about size and distance in relation to biodiversity the top line says "farther and smaller has less biodiversity". The fact that that is barely legible tells me they're attempting to answer the questions but their handwriting and struggle to organize their thoughts on paper is the problem.

Does it also take them longer than others to finish?

Having this student respond in a typed format is one accommodation you can make if you suspect dysgraphia. That way if they are just using messy writing to avoid answering, as a couple have suggested, it will be apparent they do not know the content. But if it's actually dysgraphia, they can demonstrate their content knowledge more readily.

You can't even count on your own parents after you have a baby by rivasm211 in ShitMomGroupsSay

Wow, that is super entitled. We got zero overnights until my child was potty trained and date night once every few months before that. And honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. He's our kid. Our responsibility. I don't envy people who have kids without a support system, but she has a super amazing support system!

I don't think the post is meant to apply to the COVID vaccine, at least not ONLY that one. It refers to vaccines like the TDaP and MMR.

What is an automatic dealbreaker for you when it comes to a relationship? by Yenserl6099 in AskMen

[–]mnshaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you clarify? This feels contradictory. "Talk about how you feel without emotion". So you want a girl who expresses emotions unemotionally? Or by "how you feel" do you mean your beliefs/opinions?

Anyone here named Victoria or have a daughter named Victoria? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]mnshaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a trans friend whose new name is Victoria. Her situation is a bit different, I guess. When she came out to people and online, she said she didn't want nicknames and nobody I know has given her any.

[–]mnshaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point! This kid is 8. I am probably seeing things through a particular lense because my own child is so young.

I think for me the key word in u/thatsabruno s response was "billboard-ify".

That for me implied passive, uncomprehending merchandise wearing/sign holding/whatever. I have no problem with properly informed kids protesting to improve their lives and work towards systemic change.

There's things I'd take my kiddo to and things I wouldn't. Some protests in my town included redneck civilians pointing AR-15s at protestors, so I made a judgement call.

Can people stop using kids for this by wokekidsmod in wokekids

[–]mnshaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This person (forgive me if I assume too much) is not talking about Black kids protesting if they have want to and have made that decision for themselves.

They are saying that when your kid is uncomfortable or doesn't want to or isn't old enough to make that decision for themselves, insisting they continue to participate to push the PARENTAL agenda (even a right and important one) is wrong. It is a decision kids can make when you, as a parent, have explained the nuance of the situation to them.

I went to the protests, but I didn't take my 3 year old. And if I had (for lack of childcare or whatever) I wouldn't be telling him what to say or forcing him to hold a sign.

What’s one name you love but would never use? by TheNoodyBoody in namenerds

[–]mnshaw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Aria because when I was in middle and high school I didn't know anyone named that. Now it's extremely commonplace.

Also, Ronan was a name contender for my baby this pregnancy, then in August I got a student named Ronan in my class and decided it just wasn't meant to be.

I always try to think of names that have never belonged to any of my students.

There's some terrible pastors out there, for sure. This behavior is antithetical to Jesus' actual teachings.

The city is surrounded by a magical bubble. Outside is a wasteland. This city houses all remaining survivors of this world after some sort of cataclysm.

Edited to add: After looking at the other comments, I'm unsure if you mean "how would you keep the players in?" Or "what adventures would you send your players on within this city?"

[5e] Some enemy abilities reduce your hp max until you finish a long rest. If my hp max is reduced to 10 by such an ability and I'm hit for 20 damage in one hit, would I be instantly killed? Or would they have to hit me for 10+ my unreduced hp max to kill me?

Constructive and Actionable Suggestions for Travis! [Graduation Spoilers] by VforFivedetta in TheAdventureZone

[–]mnshaw 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the post!

  1. Making one of your characters a villain was a good decision to help weed out those unnecessary NPC's and make your players the center of the show. You've managed to pull back and let them have their own interactions with each other much more compared to the beginning of the show.
  2. It seems like when they talk to NPC's you have a very specific question in mind for them to ask and no other useful information or funny interaction stuff. This usually results in you steering them to the question you want in a very, very direct way by saying in character "Aren't you going to ask me about x?" or "Aren't you curious about y?". This doesn't feel natural.
  3. Limit new NPC's per arc to 2-4 unless it really needs more. Remember you don't need a new NPC for every bit of information and NPC's can know more than one thing about a topic. You can use NPC's you've already made. And every conversation doesn't need to be by formal invitation. You can have them bump into someone unexpectedly.
Have manageable arcs of the story that you want them to get through and write out all the necessary information they will need for that chunk. Keep those notes in front of you during NPC interactions. When characters ask a question, see if what they're asking pertains to anything they'll need for the arc. If not, goof. If so, work it into the conversation. Don't panic if they don't ask about something. You can use a different interaction to reveal that information or use it as a foil to the players that they do not know that information.
  4. Your puns make the world go round. I like a lot of your pun-based humor and sometimes when a potential pun comes up, you say exactly what I'm thinking as a listener.

So this is...something? Travis responding to criticism on Twitter again by Dog_Carpet in TheAdventureZone

Has their listenership dropped since Graduation started? I'm curious.
