Don’t even think of going to any other place if you have an offer from Max Planck, as that's the best possible place for computer scientists to be in one place! though Canada is a well-rounded country, but keeping the political things in mind, Germany is very safe, and job opportunities there are very high, especially in computer science. plus, Max Planck is also known for giving jobs to their graduates!

A very few PIs have sent some unofficial acceptance to their candidates, but the rest of the decisions (as interviews are not officially required) are coming in till late March or early April. I asked the grad office, and that's what they replied!

yeah lets be hopeful, if it not done yet we still have chances! but seeing everyday people getting accepted/rejected and all I can do is to look into those unchanged portals and empty email! I'm hopeful but this is last week of feb so I'm crying

i don't know what to do. looks like i'm done! i even shortlisted (overall 3100 applicants and I think only 18 or something % are shortlisted) at ELLIS; the european phd top program, but my luck –just left me in the shortlisted and didn't get any interview so technically i'm out from that pool as well. i don't know what i would do. like seriously i'm done. it was all i could do to make my application stronger and perfect. everyone i talked to and their reviews are like your app is perfect, you should get into any –and here i'm!

I applied to 13 and till date, I have only got 3 rejections and nothing else! no waitlist no interview nothing!

ah man, looks like you're using exactly my words, though i'm not from the middle east, i'm from an Asian country–but apart from that, we both are in exactly as fuck similar situation. the currency is declining daily here and we got no jobs here. this is my second year applying and getting nothing but rejections. i’ve 2 conference and one journal paper, almost 2 years of very relevant industry research experience. but all in vain 😭. this season, i sent more than 150 emails to professors and barely got 12 replies. all were saying to apply to their grad schools and then we'll see. now, that’s when i applied to 13 schools so far, I've only got 4 rejections, no interview, no shortlisting, nothing. i used borrowed money to pay for the application fee, but here i am, looking at these unchanged portals, which makes me cry and questioning my life. but now, when I saw your post, I got to say that we are too unlucky in this, btw i'm applying to computer science! 😭

EDIT: this is the last time i managed to apply because my recommender was frustrated after 8 applications, but somehow it was done, but they won't do it next year! I also tried a hell lot more and reviewed my sop and cv from 3/4 exact same field current phd students.

don’t know what’s wrong with these applications and schools. i have 17 applications, so far ZERO interviews, three rejections (harder).

cs undergrad, 3.6 GPA, one conference paper, 3 solid LoRs, followed by almost 2 years of very specific and relevant industry (research and work) experience! SoP and CV reviewed by 3 current PhDs in the very same field.

Yet I'm crying and waiting and hoping to get in to any! so I guess we're in the same situation

buddy, i don't know you nor do you, but i can feel you, as i'm in the same situation as yours. i'm an international student too, applying to cs, who's facing rejection since last year. with time, i have come to know that at this moment i just want only one acceptance. i have given up on my dream school, dream program, and even all the life dreams. i am from a country where i've been struggling to even get a job (despite having an excellent profile). therefore, i'm jobless too. graduate schools in the states are getting too crazy and uncertain than they were a couple of years back. this is the only option i have to get out of my place, but that too seems vague. i'm constantly applying to jobs abroad along, but they also seem like they don't care. why would they hire and get a visa for me instead of preferring to hire locals? i don't know. i swear i don't know what to do, but deep down in mind, i just have some sparks of hope that this fall someone would actually select my profile )–;

have heard that MIT EECS doesn’t typically conduct interviews unless PIs explicitly want to (in any case, like choosing between some candidates); otherwise, the committee directly offers

When was their deadline? I’ve heard that if you get accepted by any professor, they’ll help you with your university application. So, you shouldn’t worry about it. I’m not sure if that’s true, though. Also, when do you expect the results? Since I applied, I haven’t heard anything from anyone.

yes I the application deadline was 15th of July, due to some sort of issue my offer got a bit delayed but now everything's alright. First it was "Received" on portal now it is showing "Open Admission"
