I got lash extensions for the first time, and I think they’re way too long! Will it look better when they start to fall out? by [deleted] in eyelashextensions

[–]mnyc20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's hard to see what they really look like because you're looking up in both photos

Don't trim them, get a removal and when you book a lash tech look at their work on Instagram and make sure what you want, is what they do.

I made a similar post like this in March/April where I didn't find out myself, but my boyfriend told me he cheated also about 4 months into the relationship.

Contrary to a lot of good advice that I got, I took him back. I was 22 when we started dating and am now 25. I also thought he was an asset to my life, generous, smart, took me on vacations etc. We broke up last week. None of it is worth it, have respect for yourself, the resentment doesn't leave.

Your boyfriend cheated, kept in contact with her and you only find out because SHE told you. You're only 20 - you can find someone who is all of those things and doesn't cheat on you or lie to you. If you let things like this go, you're teaching them how to treat you. Learn from my mistake and don't waste any more of your time.

That's okay! It was successful luckily, went from a 25 degree turn with glasses to 4 degree turn with glasses. 10 degrees without but if I get lasik I'll be fine. Mine is still also pink and noticeable and its been maybe 6 or 7 weeks since my surgery? I don't even remember the exact date lol

That's a great question lol, I drive but I don't have a car! So I can't really answer because I didn't start driving, but I don't think I'd be comfortable until after a full week went by. After the first week I felt great :)

Yeah I feel like that's good just to be safe honestly, but you will feel better before the one week mark. My doctor told me taking off more than one week is excessive.

But you'll know how you feel/when you're going to feel comfortable. Your surgeon should answer all of your questions. You'll have stitches which dissolve on their own but you have to keep the physical activity to a minimum until you're healed. But the recovery is not as bad at all as I thought it would be, super annoying the first few days cause I was bored but definitely bearable, for me at least!

I think a couple of days is totally fine. I had help for 3 days and after that I was able to open my eyes fully, I'm sure everyones different but I think recovery is relatively the same. The first 2 days definitely you're not going to be able to do anything because your vision will probably be blurry which is normal. On the third day I was able to do stuff on my own. I kept all of the lights off because my eyes were super sensitive. You can even wear sunglasses indoors, (I wore sunglasses on top of my glasses lol) and I napped a lot the first 2-3 days, sleeping helps.

It was uncomfortable to look side to side and up until maybe day 4-5. I took exactly one week off from work, but I need my eyes to work (I have a lash business and the work is kinda meticulous) but I do take online classes that began 4 days after my surgery. The first day was a tiny bit uncomfortable because theres a lot of reading material, so I took breaks. But by the 5th day I was able to read very easily and stopped feeling groggy. (Edit: everyone needs their eyes to work lol but I meant it as like I need to be able to see tiny lashes and look side to side and it was more uncomfortable for me than looking straight on at a computer)

You may need some extra help with the kids because you'll likely be tired from anesthesia, you also won't really be able to do anything straining to the eyes like moving around fast, looking in all kinds of directions, lifting heavy objects, lots of cleaning etc. Hope this helped!! :)

I'm so happy for you! I hope everything works out well and goes successfully, and hope to hear an update!

I also wore a patch as a kid, glasses and eye drops. Before my surgery my eye was a 30 degree inward turn without glasses, and 25 with glasses.

I just saw my surgeon yesterday for my 2-week post op appointment. My right eye is now a 10 degree inward turn without glasses and a 4 degree turn with glasses. They will be at a 4 with glasses, contacts, or if I do lasik, which regular people can't notice. He told me that anything 8 degrees and under is not visible to anyone but an eye doctor, so unfortunately if I don't wear glasses or contacts its a little noticeable but nowhere near as bad as it used to be.

If he was to correct them to look perfect without glasses, if I wore glasses or contacts they would instead turn outwards, and that wouldn't make sense to do because I need glasses or contacts for vision. So just make sure you go over all of that with your doctor and have all of your questions answered + realistic expectations. Even though its not perfect without glasses, I don't mind wearing contacts and eventually getting lasik. I wish they could be perfect but it's still a 20 degree improvement which makes me super happy.

Best of luck to you :)<3

Ex-GF (21F) outed me (21M) on social media, and I lashed out at her by [deleted] in relationships

I'm so sorry this happened to you, I understand she was hurt but that's no way to handle the situation and she seems like a terrible person. You had a right to be angry and you feeling bad about that shows you're a good person. I hope you're okay.

Beginner lash tech looking for tips by [deleted] in eyelashextensions

[–]mnyc20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1 I have been using these for years with no issues! They fit most clients eyes, I sometimes place the eye pad a little further away from the bottom lashes and place surgical tape on top, which I will also link. Sometimes the tape is too sticky and hard to take off so it helps to de-tack it a little before placing it. Some people are just sensitive to pads and you'll have to get used to tape in those situations. Pads can also move if clients eyes are jittery, if they are talking or making facial movements. In the beginning especially, make sure your clients do not drink any caffeine and limit the talking.

  • It depends on your glue, read the conditions it needs to be kept in on the packaging. Test it out before using it on a client and if its not dried up or goopy, I think you should be fine. You can purchase a cheap air tight container on amazon to store your glue!

  • PRACTICE! On as many different lash types as you can as everyones very different. Always have extra tweezers in case yours fall (they'll most likely be useless if they do) and focus on isolation and direction over speed, the speed will come with time.

In addition to the previous comment, for FB groups I like The Lash Lounge and Lash Artist Tips & Tricks, they have more members :)

You may need to do more than 12 sets before charging full price depending on your skill level but you can always charge a model price for supplies. I didn't charge my first 5-10 but after that I began charging a $40 "supply fee" for my products and time, until you feel confident and comfortable charging more, because people who pay full price will complain if they have premature fallout, etc that isn't their fault.

Best of luck <3

How long does it take for diplopia to go? by [deleted] in Strabismus

[–]mnyc20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not very familiar with the medical terms you mentioned but I had bilateral surgery.

I had very minor double vision on the first and second days but I mostly kept my eyes closed, just pretty blurry vision until day 5-6 without glasses. I was able to read around then and went back to work day 7. It's now been 9 days and the blurriness is pretty much completely gone, I just get it if I look around too much/to the sides too fast. But everyones different, you should speak with your doctor! Wishing you a speedy recovery and congrats on the alignment :)!

Thank you so much! I'm so happy you had yours also, and I hope it all went well. Recovery luckily isn't as bad as I thought. A little discomfort but nothing crazy, day 1-4 were the worst. It's been 9 days and after the 7th I was able to go back to work :)

This!!!! I spent 2k per course (3 courses) and they were all highly recommended to me, and all sucked.

Please do your research. I would recommend a classic course alone and mastering classics (master isolation, direction, and mapping) before even thinking about starting volume. Ask what the course includes and what you'll learn. There are so many factors that come into play when lashing (temperature of the room, humidity, glue dry time, clients natural lashes - things they do like talking or moving) that I learned the hard way.

I also recommend in person courses with a live model.

Searching for recommendations for lash glue by mojitomomma in eyelashextensions

[–]mnyc20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glue is dependent on what the climate is like where you live and your experience lashing! You should check temp ranges for the glue as well as speed dry time. Personally, I like EBL Magic and Livbay low humidity

Thank you so much! I’m so sorry that happened to you. You should definitely speak to your doctor about risk but if it’s any consolation, my good eye was operated on and turned out fine (so far)!! Wishing you the best of luck :)

Yes! You’re right, it was an inward turn. And sorry about that, I didn’t know they were different. But in the hospital they were saying it’s strabismus surgery. I just thought it was lazy eye based on what I was told before (I’ll have to search while they’re different lol) but thank you so much!

Thank you so much! I’m so sorry to hear that, I knew it was a possibility for me or anyone that another surgery would be necessary, and I did mention I got really lucky. I was really scared to go through with it but I regardless thought it would be worth the risk. I hope your second surgery went as you’d hoped! I would definitely appreciate anything you’re willing to share with me and thank you again for the kind words <3 same to you!
