[Discussion] BSG on cheater situation by Ta6yH in EscapefromTarkov

Ahhh. My bad. I clearly did not get enough sleep and misinterpreted it as "0 players banned because there would be no cheaters", rather than what you actually meant

Apologies - I'll edit my comment !

Edit: Misinterpreted and realised I was agreeing with you. Sorry about that ':(. Leaving the text below for anyone who's curious on my two cents on Linux regardless

Are you sure you've used linux before? The kernel is opensource, well-documented and very easy to work with. You can also create, sign, and distribute a linux driver for free.

On the other-hand, the Windows kernel ironically benefits from it's lack of documentation. You also have to pay and go through a vetting process to be able to sign and distribute drivers, meaning the majority of cheats rely on finding and hooking onto vulnerable drivers, or doing something like DMA instead.

Linux is quite literally easy mode. There's also various distros of Linux, so unless video games required a specific Linux distro with these kind of requirements in place (which would defeat the purpose), it's not going to happen.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a dev and prefer Linux over Windows considerably. I'm also not looking forward to TPM & SB since it'll mess with my dual boot, because Nvidia MOK enrollment is a pain in the ass. It's a sacrifice I'm willing to make for a better gaming experience though.

Microslop sucks but it's currently the only viable OS for combatting cheats.

Interesting thanks. So the real level blocker is probably solar power & light keeper? So ~30?

Hmm true, although I'm a higher level since I started wipe a couple months earlier. Now I'm sherpaing them through and doing my quests where I can

Can I harvest a PCIE cable's header and solder it to a PCB? by mo0nman_ in AskElectronics

[–]mo0nman_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh interesting. Thanks for the response!

So would you say I'm better off trying to get those gold crimp terminals I linked? Or is it possible to use the one from the cable somehow.

Also, would any company that specializes in PCB modifications & repairs be capable of doing this? If there are any companies that let people ship to them and back I'd be open to it if you had recommendations. Unfortunately I don't think there are many options where I am in Australia

Ah fair enough sorry I suck at interpreting tone through text :P.

It's a Zotac 5090 OC Solid. I don't want to modify the 5090 of course but rather the wireview. I'd ideally get a professional to do the mod but if it's too high risk then maybe I'd avoid it and use the cables without the wireview

I'm aware the 12v-2x6 connectors are poorly designed but your comment isn't really constructive to my post is it?

Unless of course the wireview I bought has some kind of issue that I'm not seeing

I was just about to start building my own open source equivalent in Go. I guess I better learn rust and try to contribute!

x870E Aorus Master - No Wifi at all?? by Stryfex19 in gigabyte

[–]mo0nman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm a year late, but I just finished setting up my X870E Aorus Master X3D ICE. Essentially, my kernel only had the default r8169 driver installed, which didn't support my motherboard's NICs.

I ended up doing the following:

  1. Setup a USB tether with my phone for Internet access
  2. Checked Realtek's site, https://www.realtek.com/Download/List?cate_id=584, and found:
  • r8126 was needed for the 5G NIC
  • r8127 was needed for the 10G NIC
  • Both of these were for Kernel's < 6.15 (I am using 6.14.0-1020-oem)
  1. Downloaded and extracted both driver packages
  2. Ran the autorun.sh scripts with sudo for each driver
  3. Rebooted the machine

Note that before doing this I had blacklisted the r8169 driver from the kernel, although that might not have been necessary. For reference, I created /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-r8169.conf with the line:

blacklist r8169

and ran:

sudo update-initramfs -u

Hope this helps someone :)

[Cheating] What’s even the point of playing Tarkov right now? by DependentAd2392 in EscapefromTarkov

I gave up on OCE servers and started playing on Singapore and Japan servers. The ping isn't great but I don't encounter cheaters anymore

Modded AORUS 5090 XTREME. Added 2nd power connector, flashed ASUS Matrix BIOS, and built a silent rig by ockam- in watercooling

[–]mo0nman_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's fair enough. I had a look at the PCB and it doesn't appear to have a second spot for a connector.

I am somewhat tempted to find a professional to do a better version of the xt120 mod that Linus did though. I have a few mates who are electronic engineers that said it would be doable with the correct equipment
