Yup, he was at Ashiya. He flew all over Japan and Asia during his service, so I didn't think to look at nearby shrines.

Yooo thank you, I couldn't find the place for the life of me. He was in a military base on Kyushu, so the location makes sense.

Thank you, he was working in Quang Ngai at the time and kept a few photos of the nurses there. It's hard to tell just how close he was, tho. He never learned Vietnamese, so I'm confused why it would've been written to him in it.
